    I'm hopeful for the future...
    1903 the Wright brothers invented the first crude airplane... alot has change in 100 years.
    Yep this is possible... new discoveries being made all the time.
    I'm sure this will become a reality.

      By the 40's you had airplanes basically the same as today. Rows of seats on an aircraft with a cockpit at the front. All that has changed is speed of aircraft. Even the fastest commercial aircraft practically was the same. Two wings, rows of seats and cockpit at the front.
      Thankfully an aircraft like this will never happen

      +Miroslav Milosevic unfortunately that's not true. Think about it: you are an airline and you have the option to fit your new A380 with either a gym or more economy seats. While the gym is cooler and a good selling point, it's not making money. we are at a stage where aircraft design and innovation regarding the experience have taken a back seat position to give way to the increasing amount of people capable of buying that airline ticket. the key to staying competitive right now is to use less fuel per kilometer, put more people in a unit and make it all faster.

    • @miroslavmilosevic1040
      @miroslavmilosevic1040 9 років тому +1

      fromcincinnati Etihad fitted some of their A380 with The Residence. It's a super-first class with an apartment with private toilets and dedicated flight attendants. Price to fly it is greater or equal than hiring a bizjet, but the demand is quite good, while the toll in overall seat capacity of the aircraft is minute. The newest from them is B789 with half the floor dedicated for business and first class, so it seats just around 230 pax. Business and first class passengers generate more revenue per space aboard and fuel consumed. And there are more and more high class fliers every day. And it all doesnt mean the economy will disappeareven then some no-frills carrirs of the future will fly people at very long distances in economy seats similar to today's

    11.5 years on and honestly aviation is no closer to this, held back by rising manufacturing costs, rework, increased certification and technological stagnation.
    The MAX crisis and Boeing’s continual delays should’ve been an opportunity for Airbus to power ahead but we’ve yet to see anything revolutionary in commercial aerospace. Hopefully by the start of the 2030’s and in 11.5 years time I can comment on this again and hope we start making progress towards this concept.

All large airplanes already fly them selves! its true, The planes made in modern day are all computer operated and are able to fly themselves, IN THEORY! Pilots WILL ALWAYS be needed no matter how much technology evolves. What will change is the way a pilots are trained and educated! I encourage you follow your dream in becoming a pilot!

    I don't think I'd feel comfortable with the open "air" design where you are flying & can see everything around you. I think those should be special seats if passengers want that. Many people are nervous fliers & that would probably creep them out. The center area would have to go. There's no way passengers would not be injured if there's a turbulence patch they are going through. Too many injuries right there plus lawsuits, since people are lawsuit happy these days. Everything else though looks cool.

      Dude focus on your math. It's 2014 and I'm nine. In 2015 years I'll be ten. And the plane is out in 2050. So 2050-_____=2015. 35 is the answer now add 10 to 35 which is 45 and round it to the nearest ten. And boom 50 years.

    • @Steve_McMillen
      @Steve_McMillen 10 років тому +2

      Roberto Quesada True, but what you said was: "Glad i'm ten, because IN 50 YEARS" (do you mean in 40 years?)
      that means 10+50... you said you were 10, then you change it to 9??
      But anyway, these are just concepts based in 2012, we don't know what we would be capable of when we reach 2050,, intergalactic travel maybe? You never know, people say it will never happen, but technology seems to be getting better every day,
      we might be looking to aircraft that look even better than these! ;)

    This is so unrealistic in terms of what people want. You have to have a separate friggin degree to work some of the new technologies. Society is getting increasingly impatient and people who fly just want to get to their destination. They don't need to pass through all this tech stuff just to sit down...and I can't IMAGINE what the prices of tickets would be on these planes. However, the idea of a glass roof kind of plane is very cool. Might be a bit nerve-racking at first but it would be a very interesting experience to fly and see everything, not just whats outside each little window. All in favor of a panoramic view!

    I find that ´´interaction´´ part of the plane unnecessary, because 1) it has not enough place for the passengers to be there, even first class 2) takes too much place 3) makes plane bigger, heavier= more fuel needed= not good for the future an last but not least 4) who the fck needs to play golf, while he´s sitting in a plane for max. ca. 12 hours?

      lol of course not , the whole plane is shielded.What is happening is that the top part is covered by LEDs which are semiconductors like transistors and thus are getting smaller and more efficient each year.The LEDs are controlled to create high definition live footage of the outside of the aircraft. So yup those are NOT windows.

      Yes it will. Many of the features mentioned in the video, such as a morphing seat, and holodeck, can be created now even with today's technology. It all comes down to time for engineers, but it will inevitably happen. Just think, 50 years ago, what did planes look like compared now?

      Ethan Liu This will never happen as depicted in the video as that's just a shallow style demo that projects into the future our current bleeding edge tech fascinations. Planes changed a lot in the last 50 years but sure as hell they don't look remotely like what they drew on Popular Mechanics half a century ago.

      Also, half of this is virtually impossible. Open top? Seat changes? Those weird screens in front of you? Moving luggage racks? Reality games in the cabin? Instantly converting a cabin to a bar, conference/ game room? These people are going insane!!! You people who think that this is a good concept are totally crazy.

    • @imasepan
      @imasepan 7 років тому +2

      FlyAway FPV there is no open top. holograms are possible, moving luggage racks are completely possible, conference room I understand, making a bar is also easy, especially with todays technology, the game room? not so sure.
      as for moving seats, well, they are possible but they would most likely be set on rails that can congest. And the virtual screens are clearly not possible today, yes.

    This is a very interesting design concept. While it will obviously require some breakthroughs in material sciences before these ideas can be implemented, it's certainly not beyond possibility based on research that is being undertaken today. I think part of the challenge facing Airbus and other operators of such aircraft in the future, will be convincing passengers that the new design is safe. It's so different to the traditional aluminum tube we're used to climbing inside of, that it may put some people off. Just think how scared some people are of walking over glass floors. Personally though I'd jump at the chance to fly in it! Well done Airbus for some blue sky thinking!

    That's why engineering is awesome. It doesn't even matter if this will ever be real. But the ideas and concepts driving us forward are inspiring. There were and will always be evil people who use technology against us. It's the tech that changes. And as long as there is a majority of good people technology can help us to make the world better. technology is a tool, how we use it is up to us.
