My Mark III sounds identical to this, good to know most all of these earlier Mark amps have the same magic going on. LOVE my Mark III, even though it is more of a recording/fun at home amp, as on stage you really need a second GEQ, like the JP2C, to get a good rhythm AND lead sound, as the same crushing rhythm tones don't translate to smooth, singing leads without readjusting the EQ.
Hey man, what stripe do you have? I know all the mark III s are awesome but just curious
I have 5 of mark series amps, Green stripe, Red stripe, Blue Stripe and a a IIC+.. if they were vastly different they wouldn't have just swiped each version with just a magic marker swipe or a black dot or a + sign. The big difference in the IIC+ and the Mark III was the third channel. Mesa got noticeably different with the Mesa badging vs the Boogie badges. The Rectifier series,The lone star, Road King,Nomad, etc came later and did sound different... The stiletto was probably the most different being EL34 based shooting toward the Marshall tone. Even my newer Mark 5 EL84 based amp sits in my studio with the older mark III'S and IIC+ it too sounds really close even all these years later with totally different power section/ tubes. The petrucci amp is a modern Mark amp and you can line up all the Mark series amps and NO one in the audience would ever know the difference and most guitar players blind folded couldn't pick them out one from the other especially with the transparent EVM 12L black shadow speaker or an MC-90 black shadow. The IIC+ landed production in the right time to become the flagship vintage boogie. Thats when 80's music was huge and that amp was produced at the right time for the players who made it famous. it didn't make them famous. I would argue a Mark III purple, red, blue or green stripe Mark III could have been used by the players who made the IIC+ famous and those albums and concerts wouldn't have sounded any different. They just weren't available at the time those bands recorded those albums. They stopped the IIC+ when the mark III came into production. They stopped the III when the Mark IV started and so on....they are all great amps and tonally are the same. Most of those bands stopped playing the IIC+ and went to the mark III when it came out because the sound was basically the same but the 3 had a third channel, everyone loved that.
You have to try the Abasi Fishmans in your guitar. They are close to the moderns in most positions but have an exceptional clean sound as well
Interesting. Since I played Fishmans, I no longer like any other pickup brand... I’ll try the Abasi at some point for sure, thanks man!
@@mark_iic the abasi Pickups ARE Fishmans 😉
@@Liquifireguitargeek I know, I meant that I really like Fishman’s that I no longer play other brands and I tried many.
Loving these tones, I have a Mark III red stripe DRG, how do you set your presence knob?
I set presence at 4 on all my IIC+ except on the HRG, I set it on 5 since it’s a bit darker in general.
Hi. Whats the year of your amp? Thanks
It’s 84

heckin rights brother! that's the old school mesa tone we all know and love! i just wish I could give more than one thumb!
I totally agree brother, THE tone that can never get better... I’ll demo my other IIC+ soon (SRG) which is another type of beast. Keep an eye on my channel! 🤘
After seeing the KRG vid I think this confirmed the DRG is my favourite of the power amps. I've had that view from my own amps which incl but never heard a well recorded KRG. Thanks for sharing Tony
DRG is fantastic. Simulclass does something great to the tone.
@@mark_iic Which is your favourite?
@@Lordiesel believe it or not... all lol. DRG is unique but so are the others. It’s insane how different yet amazing they are. For “lead” playing though, DRG wins big time over them all.
@@mark_iic lol not surprised at all. It mirrors my experience from when I picked up the SRG. I expected for the DRG to be that much better but they are both different and amazing.
@@Lordiesel yes exactly! Each amp has its own thing going. Best is to own them all... lol
This is friggin' great. I hope I can find one soon. I've been trying to buy a IIC+ DRG since forever. Enjoy this beast!
Post on FB groups online asking for one, you never know when someone might reply.
@@mark_iic what group? You told somewhere there is 2c+ group on facebook, but I can’t find it. Could you give me the name pls?
@@stevestevens1457 here you go: facebook.com/groups/677611839527543/?ref=share_group_link
@@mark_iic thanks bro
I will never play anything where you have to chug that fast...sounds like the pick is bouncing off the strings...I think my arm would tire...good sound though...was that all amp with no overdrive pedal...?
Guitar straight to amp. Only a noise gate was used in the FX loop.
Awesome sounds and playing, fantastic reference for how these amps should sound. Love the wicker too, might want to get a grill like that for my JP2C.
Thanks man! Indeed the wicker grill looks awesome, you can also build it yourself.
Sell me this amp, right now.
So damn rich and delicious
This sounds incredible
Fantastic amp, great tones, and great riffs. What does DRG stand for?
Thank you for watching! DRG stands for "D" Dual Operation (Simulclass), "R" Reverb and "G" (Graphic EQ).
@@mark_iic nice, thank you!
When you dialed in the amp at 3:50, I knew exactly what that tone was going to sound like. I've owned the same DRG amp since 1990, built in July of '84 (mine is long chassis, minus the hardshell cab, which I'm planning on getting.) and it sounds exactly like this. Congrats, you're one of the few videos I've seen where the tone matches what this amp actually sounds like.
Thank you brother. The DRG is my favorite IIC+ so far.
Can I have yours?)
can you upload (google drive i think) a 44/24 wav file for this playthrought? So i can match it in BIAS :D
Write me on Facebook messenger if possible and I’ll send you the link there. Thank you!
Sounds like a C+!
So awesome!🤘🏻
Thanks for watching!
Awesome fucking tones, Tony! This tight and percursive low end is perfect!!!
Thank you Matheus! 🙏 amp kills!
Sounds Awesome 👍🏼
Thanks man! \m/
Sick tone, man! What's the riff at 5:21? Sounds kick ass with this Boogie!
Thank you man! It’s a small riff I composed and I use it on my other demos as well :)
Magnificent!! Still have megalith beta? That is awsome beast too.
Oh yes, I still have the Beta, it’s a modern day Armageddon amp!!
Amazing Demo as always Tony! This is really the best Mesa Amp ever made at least for me! Cheers from Mexico!
It is the best Mesa amp ever made! Thanks for watching man!
@@mark_iic it sounds perfect, never sell it!
@@sheldonswan45 can’t agree further!! This stays forever!
so much gain from an 1982 amp, amazing
Thank you for watching!
Actually, if it's a real IIC+ (which it most definitely sounds like it is), it would have been built in 1984.
wow tony!!! not only does it sound amazing, its just beautiful to look at!!! thanx man!!!
Thank you man! It’s the best amp I played so far!!
Awesome
Sounds good to me. 🤘
Wow 😳 sooo fucking good !!! Thanks man
Thank you for watching!
No boost needed right....
“Boost” and IIC+ can’t be friends.
@@mark_iic
Not necessary at all!🤘🏻
Just delicious
It is, brother 🤘🏻
So so so so good. Did you end up selling the c++?
Yes I did! Killer amps.
Sick demo bro as always!
Thank you bro! :D
What an awesome amp, how did you mic it? What mic placement? double-tracked and hard panned L/R?
Thanks for watching man! I just used one SM57 45 degree on the cone edge of the Celestion V30 (Mesa OS cab), fully centered single mono track, no panning.
@@mark_iic wow that sounds really great for a single mono track. any postprocessing here or is it raw sound?
@@jooikchung1470 I just added low pass and high pass filters to reduce both low end and harsh high end from the signal. Killer sounding amp with incredible raw tone and sensitivity on the strings!
@@mark_iic absolutely man!
Tony what’s the presence set at here?
It’s set at 4. Each DRG is different, you may want to explorer somewhere between 4 and 5, also depends on many factors such as the tubes used…
@@mark_iic awesome thank you
It sounds Insane, as always.
Thanks man for watching! \m/
Sell. It to me!
Have you ever plus plused a drg?
I did. While sounded great, I prefer the + stock non-modded. But both are great. ++ mod sounds best on DRG than other C+ versions I believe.
@@mark_iic I kind of like how they carry almost a slight trait of the triple rec in a way. I know it was made a bit later on down the line. But I think the DRG's carry a slight bit of that big dark and slightly fuzzy vibe. Plus pulsing my S was a great idea but I still have an ear for a DRG. Lol
@@paulwubbena6809 each IIC+ has its own personality. I personally like DRG and KRG the most. I also like my SRG of course. Killer amps!
Amazing
Thank you! 🙏
@@mark_iic this one has a bit more gain than my DRG. Mine definitely has enough gain with the Volume 1, treble and lead drive all at 8, but yours definitely has more on tap. Active pickups help too of course. 🤘🏻
@@sheldonswan45 believe it or not, I played around 5 DRGs, each has its own character, they are all close but not too close. Nonetheless, they’re all amazing amps!
Drg?
There are many IIC+ models. The DRG stands for Dual operation (Simulclass), Reverb and Graphical EQ.
@@mark_iic thanks! I have an Early Mark IV, 92 (A)
@@carlossalazar4508 killer amp!
