    hi, i absolutely love this. the best video on rune chanting i've ever heard, but i'm curious to know why only 29 runes when the saxon runes had 33? i don't know much at all about saxon runes, but i'm curious to learn. hope you reply to quench my thirst for knowledge :)

      Hello Sam,
      I would think that would be because the runic alphabets like Younger and Elder Futhark are of different periods. To be honest, Runes is a whole field within itself. I only know very scant of it. I would suggest looking up the history of the Runic alphabets. That should help.

      Since Runes (OE: Rūn, means secret, mystery, whisper) are a sacred matter, that would be a journey for you. I am sorry if this comes off as insensitive. I do not mean it as so.

      Deborah Fleury, what you just heard was the Anglo-Saxon runes recited in Old English (Anglo-Saxon). Indeed, Norwegian and Old English do have their similarities in sound and in vocabulary. I hope you have a lovely day. :)

    Are there words for which one or more spellings using the Latin letters are known but there is no way to be sure how they were spelled in runes?

      I mean words in the general vocabulary of Old English, not the words for the letters. I think there is much more material in Latin letters surviving than in Futhorc.

      Many different rune rows, the Elder Futhark has 24. Not the others.

      The elder futhark which was representative of proto Germanic had 24, this Anglo Saxon Futhorc of the migration era had 33, and the younger futhark of the later viking age (which represents old Norse) had 16. It just depended mostly on the time and region.
