We unboxed it last week, and today we're reviewing the Go Pro Hero 11 Black Creator Edition. This includes the Go Pro Hero 11 Black with the new Enduro Battery, the Volta Grip, the Media Mod which acts as a cage, houses two cold shoe mounts and a microphone, and the Light Mod.
This camera seems like a great upgrade, but it isn't cheap. The question is - is it worth the cash?

OMG thank you for providing an honest review with wonderful insights into the strengths including bugs like freezing that other reviewers did not even mention which implied those issues were finally solved in the Hero 11. I think there is a lot of potential for a small light vlog travel camera in the go pros but they are facing serious competition in the insta360 - however the inst360's lenses cannot be protected with lens covers and one drop and it's game over.

Great video Kiran! I’ve just picked up the Hero 11! It’s actually my first GoPro… wasn’t impressed day one… then took it on holiday and really enjoyed the footage coming out of it! Hoping to upload some footage soon

The hypersmooth and horizon lock is what pushed me to get one. If you have it mounted on anything like a helmet or backpack those features are game changers.

thanks for your thorough review, I'm high functioning autistic Aspergers Syndrome, so I've got this on my wishlist so I can vlog steady and livestream, I broke fractured my foot a year ago (clumsiness is a trait) and on my smoky mountains livestreams I'm still dealing with hobbling, hoping when I get my GoPro, my livestreams are steadier, walking in these mountains are a challenge lol

Just a thought have you found that if you put all the creator bits in basket separate it works out cheeper with enough over to buy twin battery and charger. Not sure if there is a diferance buying separate but it works out cheeper.

The creator edition is actually $580 with the subscription. There is an extra $50 off the hero11 when you purchase the subscription alongside the camera (which cancels out the price of the subscription) on top of the regular $100 off gopros with the subscription.
I bought the camera dude, I paid £580 but then you still have to pay £50 for the subscription so it actually works out to £630 (or $630)

Thanks so much for sharing this. Wanna ask what editing software (if not possible with FinalCutPro) you use to edit the videos? Also, do you then always use an external microphone or would you say without would already do. Cheers!
I've been exporting the footage twice and then it's usable for me to use, long process but it's the only way I've managed to make it work!

Great Video, I've not had the conflict between GoPro files and Final Cut pro, I will use my rode wireless go 11 as a mic! I like the media mod just for the mic jack! interesting the more i watch the more i want to know more! I'm a Photographer and i just invested in a Canon EOS R5 C which i was going to use for Video, but the stills are so great I will use it for my main camera! PS I have subbed! I have my favourite creators for my canon! I think you will be the go to for my GoPro

Thanks for the video Kiran. Really comprehensive review... I picked mine up this week. Is there a way to switch between the media mod mic and the standard mic when using the mod? Also, have you had connection issues with the media mod? I find it has to be plugged in constantly for it to work - otherwise the record button doesn't work. Very strange...
Thanks dude! I’ve not had connection issues but have heard that other people have. You can switch quite easily, if you go into the settings of the video type (where you would change the resolution, FPS etc) there’s an option of where the audio is coming from
You can also set a short cut on the home screen to easily change the mics. You can not change mics while the camera is recording though.

Hey I would, but I would also say that if you're only shooting this kind of video a straight camera is probably better. If you want the flexibility of having a small waterproof device then this is a good bet

Hey Niya, apologies for the delay I've been so crazy busy. I've generally used Sony cameras for ages, so trust the brand and watched SO many reviewed before settling on the A6600 - the reason I got this over the A6400 is the Z batteries, so the battery life is much much longer. It also has some stabilisation in the camera body but I can hardly tell the difference (lol)
i think the next gen of go pros needs to have the capability of functioning as photography ccameraas taking photos without the counting back, straight when pressing the shooting button and the posibility of adapting like in traditional cameras at least smaller or light telescopes , if they make it work i definitely pay i dont know, like 700 hundred for the entire kit.
⚠️ I have the same one, my friend of mine has the same one and we worked together, we have the same malfunction on both cameras, freezing problem, the camera turns off several times, there is also the impossibility of saving the videos on i could and there is no date and time display option on the recorded videos

Hmmm possibly, I think on the whole set yes but with the subscription it’s unlikely!
$549 at best buy for the creator edition.
Only the downside that I experienced with using gopro is that it turns-off when the outside temparature is below -0 degrees. This is very annoying to users in Canada because we have very cold condition here and this is not possible here in Canada.

Am I the only one who thought the internal microphone sounded better than the Media Mod microphone? He went on to say that the Media Mod microphone sounds better than the internal mic, but that really didn't seem like the case

I have a go pro Hero 9 and also have media mod, the light but im thinking of purchasing the volta as well.
My question is as I know the mic on the media mod is very average. I use the Rode wireless go external mic attached to the hot shoe on the media mod and plugged in to the media mod.
Will the media mod accommadate the connection of the volta and also the external mic as well.
Are there enough ports on the media mod?

that would be something for post production... otherwise it's physically impossible. The viewing angle is too wide, the sensor too small... better off with a dslm in that case

From the media mod? No it's not but you can add another one and it will pick the one you've connected

Some dude made a video why he hates the go pro 11 (guy with a bike helmet on in his videos). At the end of his video he said support pushes him to use the app no matter what, and there's a ton of limitations not using go pros online mobile editing platform. Seems like they want to keep the footage in house...
