    I've heard many, many versions of this over the years and I have to say that this performance is one of the cleanest I have ever heard. There are some extremely dense chordal passages that can be very muddy, even in the hands of the great concert pianists but Traum, you've managed to make every one of the very dense harmonies distinct and cohesive. There are many middle voices that often get lost in a wash of pedal but I was able to hear them all very well here, not to mention the great cadenza. Very, very well done Traum, a fantastic perfomance.

    Articulate, dynamic, and the feeling doesn't get lost or become an after-though to the technicallity. The Friska was glorious. I've seen quite a few performances of this piece, and they occasionally give the impression that it's Liszt who is dragging the player around. Like they're strapped to the back of a wild animal, and hoping to hold on long enough to make it across the finish line. When you play, it always sounds like you're the one in charge.

  • @dylanschiavi

    I'm all but convinced that Traum is a professional pianist who simply does this on the side. Through all my endless scrolling on UA-cam, I have only found a few pianists who genuinely are extremely impressive (i.e. Rousseau, Kassia, & others). Traum on the other hand takes this to a whole new level. Every video they have uploaded is professional level repertoire, played to a professional level. All I have to say is that if you are not a professional pianist you deserve to be but you are also a guiding light to those who wish to be and those who just enjoy the music. If you are a professional pianist, then keep doing what you are doing because you are most certainly one of the best at it. Although I'm sure you have far more experience than me, I hope my decade of experience on piano is enough to say that I think you are the best pianist on UA-cam who isn't strictly a professional. Finally, if this cadenza is original, I just want you to know. You also have an incredible talent in composition and you should pursue it to leave your mark on music forever. I would love to hear some original works on the channel and more of your expansive repertoire.

      @@arcanios806 Calling it “pretty bad” is just rather arrogant to be honest. I’ve heard many great pianist performances which have minor mistakes in them, but people are still allowed to enjoy interpretations of pieces, and so you replying to different people’s positive comments calling it bad is not painting you in a positive light, especially considering how the consensus on this interpretation has been widely regarded in the comments as a good one. To imply that you know that it’s bad and that everyone else is wrong takes a lot of hubris. If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it, and perhaps upload your own interpretation of it to correct all of the mistakes he made.
      Have a good day.

      @arcanios806 2 роки тому

      @@ashermay6513 So first of all: for you the many decide what is right and wrong, yes? So if the majority has this opinion, it must be true?! Sounds like a pretty dangerous thing to say...
      The interpretation is rather bad. That isn't an opinion, it is a fact. Did you hear other interpretations of this exact peace, then you know this as well. It is just so strange to see all this praise to such a performance while other pianists are basicly ignored.

    • @ashermay6513
      @ashermay6513 2 роки тому +7

      @@arcanios806 I never said that, but you may continue to vilify yourself by putting words in my mouth. People enjoyed it, for the most part. That means what? Most people thought it was good. You are flatly saying that it is objectively bad, but who are you to say that? I’m not saying it is objectively good, because musical expression is a very subjective thing. My sister makes the claim that all classical music is objectively bad, just because she doesn’t like it. I have known others to claim that a piece is bad simply because they don’t like it. As I said, it takes hubris to suggest that you’re the arbiter of what’s good and bad. And of course people aren’t going to talk as much about other pianists on here. Comparing interpretations takes away from the value one can draw from them. If I listened to Pisarenko’s rendition of Six Moments Musicaux Op. 16 No. 4, and then went into the comments and started talking about how bad I thought it was and instead spoke about how much better Lugansky’s was, that’d be quite scummy. But you’re not even doing that. You aren’t saying you think it’s bad, you’re claiming that you, of all the people who heard it, possess the knowledge to objectively say that this rendition is bad. That’s just silly. Just say you don’t like it and move on. Bringing negativity to people’s positive remarks about this interpretation (which admittedly I did enjoy for the most part) is not doing you any favours, and pretending to have the ultimate authority to decide whether or not a rendition is “good” or “bad” is, again, just silly.

    How do you get the repeated notes at 4:33 so crisp and distinct. I can play the whole friska and while the jumps are still a little sloppy, I just can't seem to get those damn repeated notes! Really well played!

    Definitely captured the Hungarian vibe, well done, and thank you 😀. I reckon another fun piece would be the Galop in A minor by Liszt 😀. Very hard LMAOOO, but great work for this and previous performances 💪💪

      It always feels like your repertoire goals are moving further away, the more you learn. But at some point it’ll reverse. For me it was quite sudden when I realized that i was capable of learning the piece I always thought I’d never learn. As long as you keep challenging your capabilities, it’ll come at some point
