3 things significantly impress me about the PR tour around Parasite: 1) Bong Joon Ho's casual ability to flow in & out of English at the most unexpected moments (given that it's such a hard language) 2) his translator's effortless memory and nuanced rhetoric 3) the fact that so many news outlets, late night shows, interviewers/etc. have displayed the language barrier instead of editing it out (which so often happens)

Well, it's obviously something he can prepare in advance. Given time to prepare, someone with his proficiency would have been able to come up with the right words when it's time to present. He doesn't have as much time with interviews like these. Speed and accuracy = fluency. There are millions of people who are truly bilingual and fluent. He's not one of them.

Director bong is always praising her and finds her skills valuable and she always has a smile on her face when translating so it’s never boring to listen to her! I feel like because of her translation even when director bong is talking you want to listen to them both.

Major props to his translator, she's the best Korean-English one I've seen! It's not just that she's quick and accurate, it's that it feels so utterly natural, as if she's the one answering the questions herself. I've heard she's not a professional translator either! So intelligent.

Great questions Extra! It truly makes a difference when you have a translator who can adequately convey what the person is saying including all the nuances and context. Most times when translators are used. There is a stop and go every few sentences so the translator can stumble through the translation. Often times being just a literal translation of what is said that seems impersonal or robotic. You can tell he was comfortable in her abilities that he continued his answers without pause until he was done. She was able to translate quickly and speak eloquently as if she were the one answering the questions.
I hope she will act as BTS' translator too. RM can speak English pretty well but it's always more comfortable for him & the other members to answer questions in korean
