Between the Luxor Las Vegas that opened in 1993, or the Memphis Pyramid in Nashville in 1991, or Prague's Goja Music Hall Na Výstavišti in 1991, it was just the zeitgeist. No wonder the Mummy became such a popular film franchise
This feels like one of those big, epic, multi-generational stories. Altengrad has changed so much over the decades. I can’t be the only one nostalgic for the pre war era, with the medieval-through-early-20th-century buildings. Before the Nazis, before Communism. Looking back it feels like a simpler time.
"Certain natural events" I literally exclaimed "oh shit!", because while I was not there for it, I worked for government agency that dealt with infrastructure resulting from this event and I saw the sheer scale of it.
for stopping traffic at the petrol station, you could maybe force traffic through your stop sign as they leave the casino / mcdonald’s in stead of allowing a direct route back onto the highway. another idea, if it was actually implemented in the 90s eastern bloc: a weigh station for trucks - could force them off the highway and through a stop sign in front of a road services building + weighing platform via a heavy traffic ban district.
1997 my wife and her family were evacuated to nearby city cause... the thing was happening. As if Central Europe did not go thru a lot already. We even made a songs in Poland about this event in Poland. Most damaged was Wrocław which You seem to take more than a few inspirations already
@@qzg7857 funnily enough. When Altengrad gets into 2000s he can make it happen again. As in 2002 there was even bigger one in Czechia, the biggest… thing… captured in modern history of our country.
this is by far the beste series in cities skylines i've ever seen - the sheer amount of development and education over such a long period of time is amazing. thank you very much.
Maybe for the next episode you could take a look at railway infrastructure after the 1997 central european flood? Perhaps remake the central railway station, electrification, new yards/depots, etc etc
Omg, the flood of '97 coming to Altengrad, can this series BE any better? This episode was lovely too, obviously. I'm always here for infrastructure builds!
So cool to still see someone using the original Skylines, seems like everyone has transitioned to Skylines 2. Love the content... Thank you for your time and effort.
Just a recommendation for the bus transport networks: For this age, a great fit is the B732 (in the workshop). Ran from the 90s until 2015 in Prague, last one got retired in 2019 in Havlíčkův Brod. I'm not sure if this hasn't been said/implemented yet, but would make a lot of difference for the perfectionist bus nerds lol
Love this series! Will there be more first-person rides through Asturis? Also curious about your next project-do you think CS2 is (or will be) in a state to support a long-term custom project? I think it would be cool to imagine a kind of alternate-history utopian city-what if the various "mistakes" in city planning in the 20th and 21st centuries hadn't happened?
If you include 1997, do you also include the same thing in 2002? It was a huge thing in East Germany. Or do you just do this one time. Or just some parts,? But I need to say, I really like your series. I wait every two weeks for a new episode :D
17:28 a suggestion. Set pedestrian crossing regulated with traffic lights (hidden in the pump column) and set the time of the traffic lights as you like. You might as well try and raise the speed limits in the gas station and lower it on the highway just outside the station... just yo try to increase the traffic in the station. Just suggestion. I love your videos andi follow you since beginning of Aurelia. Keep on!
That triple p project you discussed is something my state did for its EZ Pass lanes. It's a bit shady though, because state troopers are enforcing the speed, occupancy and fast lane pass laws for a private company while they price gouge people to use the fast lanes ($15 or more between a handful of exits). Anyone from my area will immediately recognize what I'm talking about and where i am.
It would be interesting if u would simulate the 2002 ,,100year old" flood of Prague. It wouldn't be that dramatic because Altengrad doesn't have a metro to be flooded.
@Akuras I in poland we build one highway called gierkowka from warsaw to katowice fully new road which could be called highway. In 1970-1980 A little mistake but you still done a great work!
Are you really gonna simulate THAT event, including lots of FLOW, from 1997? Kind of anxious to see it being made in cities skylines. Or do you mean completely different event. But considering you mainly cover Czechia, Slovakia and Poland and take inspiration from them it has to be THAT event.
Soo... Altengrad beeing a somehow East German, East Europe, Czech City... are you going to talk about the deforestation of Lothar storm back in 1999 around Christmas? of course not the 1997 Episode :)

Technically you should call them Motorways (or controlled-access highways), not Highways, since highway is actually just a paved road of any kind outside city limits.
The EU era... I am going to puke. In Poland these S-ways are basically the same level as german autobahns. We just have extremely high standards when it comes to A-ways. (with somewhat dumb junction planning) and I guess the EU did give us a boost in that regard. But now it is taking it all away and taxing everyone to death in the name of some sick climate ideology, which is even more infuriating because Poland was supposed to be independent and not have a replacement for Moscow which is Brussels today. 13:10 Is that a Czech thing? I don't know if that was a thing in Poland. Though Poland had to deal with massive market reforms first. And things were being done, slowly but surely, even without EU help. In all honesty, 2004 was a mistake. Poland finished its first ring in.... around 2019. And it was not the capital (which has been delayed due to sabotage by politicians and bureaucracy)
That climate stuff can prevent us from a climate crisis and horrible future. And it gives you cleaner air and more nature. Only idiots are against is. So shut up and read stuff before you post nonsense.
"climate ideology" Someone hasn't done basic research, it seems. Also, comparing Brussels to Soviet era Moscow is hilarious; Despite you living in Poland, it seems you know absolutely nothing about your country's past because that is pure ignorance.
