Installing a clone CPU into a Famicom is like the digital equivalent of a lobotomy
Well, sometimes it's the only way to treat the patient. Those CPUs are the only replacements you can really get :c
That brick break sound was BEEFY. Honestly kind of an improvement.
6:00 underworld doesn't use the noise channel. It sounds like the channel gets stuck in certain instances and doesn't decay properly.
4:40 I loved that Wonder Effect in the Twilight Forest...
Filler or not, this is super interesting!
Also, looks like someone nuked the mushroom kingdom in that last bit.
4:37 I have a hard time believing that all that madness was because of one faulty chip.
But...that's exactly what it is. Funny how that works, one bad chip and the whole system goes haywire.
well it's the CPU, which is the main chip running the system. if just the sound or video hardware were failing, the core game logic and other parts are generally fine. but if the CPU is failing, it may be sending bad data / instructions to the graphics or sound hardware
Mmm. The Mario one reminds me of Vinesauce Corruptions. The older ones, before it was mostly just modded to make people laugh.
Also love that violently sudden ending.
This is probably the most niche video ever, but I'm one of the audience for it!
The SMB corrupted madness that starts at 4:37 is glorious.
I know almost nothing about technical things, so my main takeaway from this video is that there's a really cool SNES version of the Zelda 2 title screen theme.
And that Mario 1 can get extremely cursed.
4:40 I am reminded of the Castle Prospernia from Castlevania Bloodlines.
Except for the part where it blocks elements from view rather than shifting to the right.
4:37 this unironically slaps ngl
There's an odd, kinda creepy vibe to the graphics test
Especially when they show the nintendo hotline. That font is just genuinely unsettling
ALSO
Why is the test music Zelda 2?
Who knows :v
Probably because Nintendo was lazy and didn't feel like composing any new music for an internal burn-in test. Other revisions of the test apparently use different music, although I can't remember what exactly.
@@invalid_user_handletbf, you don't need to compose new music for it
It's a _test,_ not a game, anything that uses all the sound channels in some capacity would be good for it
@@invalid_user_handle There’s a different SNES Test Cart that uses "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Disney's Pinocchio as its background music.
Agreed about the font
I've always been fascinated by faulty consoles doing this kind of stuff and wished there were more videos like this. I'd be interested in seeing more of this
the Mushroom Kingdom will never be the same
That last one sounds like Mario has taken a trip to Silent Hill.
The clone CPU famicom at 5 minutes made the invincibility theme kinda go hard
Ah, yes. I loved the Spure Mairo Bors gameplay!
4:37 This sounds like an analog horror version of Mario
The PAL SNES seems to be having issues with (H)DMA. Based on the footage, it _always_ crashes when it has to do masking effects, like the circle fade-in for SMW or ALttP.
Watching this makes me feel like I’m watching an arg
Holy crap, that SNES test rom is strangely creepy and dreadful for some reason.
Agreed
The only hardware faults I’ve really had were with my good ol gameboy pocket and also my good ol super Mario land, basically sometimes my super Mario land just tweaks out for no reason (one time boss music just randomly started playing on world 1-1, and started loading level bits from other levels, and also the title screen tweaked out for no reason one time) and with the gameboy pocket the sound just completely died, I’ve tried cleaning it I’ve tried adding a new speaker, I’ve tried replacing the caps, nothing worked, I even removed the headphone jack because it can get corroded and think there is headphones plugged into it, so either the cpu or sound chip is dying or is dead
Wait, what was that intro? Does the SNES have like... a built-in graphics test or something? Or is that like... a separate cartridge?
It is a specific cartridge - it was used in the Nintendo repair centers back in the nineties.
How did you even get a hold of one??
were the ROMs uploaded online like usual, like I’m guessing?
Yep
@@GoldDragon20funnily enough, the thing is even on RetroAchievements with a full set for some reason. No idea why, it just is.
the power of repair services
4:37 This famicom is on drugs 💀
ParallelSkawo type video.
What the heck were those few frames of static at the end?
Turning off the console :v
Clone famicom systems are notorious for having sound faults occur
It's an original famicom with a clone CPU
I’m just saying
Leaked footage of super mario bros wonder
What happens when you try to call that hotline number now?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The number still works and goes to Nintendo's customer service center.
@@D2RCR Oh really? That's neat.
How to have a headache:
Step 1: 4:31
Dragon Quest 4 on SNES?? Or did you mean 3?
Oh, whoops, I meant 6
we need an extension of 4:36
