I'm always looking for old classic semi trucks to save and restore. I'm also always looking for trucks or parts Detroit Diesel related. If you have one that needs to be saved or you know of one you can drop me an email at the following address: Ol2Stroker@gmail.com
Be sure to check out our website ol2stroker.com for truck parts and merch!
YESSSSS WAYNO!!! Come home from work on a Friday, and Ol2Stroker uploads a 45 minute video!!! #winning
That is my new favorite saying, "smells like a 671". You should put that on a shirt.
Its a real thing!
No it is ( sick -71)
6:71 for sure.
I saw a 12V149 for sale in Texas the other day, thought that would make a hell of a hood truck.
That set of tools is something else. Brilliant. It would be a nightmare without those master splines.
Yea it would
This is just hilarious Wayno😂 excellent info as well cobber 👍
Dayum, that blower is huge! I can't imagine how huge the 149 Series and EMD ones are!
I'd say the emd's are about the size of a bare small block v8. I've done a lot more turbos than blower units though.
@@mreroot Holy Guacamole!
The 14:71's they run in top fuel are twice as big.
The 14:71's they run in top fuel are twice as big.
@@JasonMyers-c6z 14:71 aren't that big, they're like 540 cubic inches, while the 6-71 is 426ci
What's up my brother I hope you are doing good. 👍🏽 ❤
Really enjoyed the blower rebuild Wayno.. and no Junk in sight!!
Awesome video Wayno. Thank you for the education. That was awesome. You and yours. Have a great weekend.👍👍👍
I’m all about the blowers!
Great video!
Great Video, Wayne. Glad those old Factory Detroit Tools worked out. Pretty cool rebuild. Have a good weekend.
You wouldn’t happen to know where I could find one of these kits for the blower?
Hey thanks a lot for this video Wayne , I really appreciate the information you shared with us . I have two 471’s and a 671 gen set and several 8v71s so one day that tutorial will be very useful . I bet those special tools are not easy to find ! Belatedly happy Easter to you and Tracey
Happy Easter!!!
Great video Wayne thanks for sharing the resealing of this blower for the 671. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Wayne.
I'm back. Patreon kicked me off a couple months ago. I'm still trying to be subscribed to your channel again. This drag racer love's what you're working on today. I wrench on a blown LS front engine dragster.
Badass man!
I looked up prices on a blower service tool set for the heck of it. OMG, they are expensive. The gold plating must've worn off Wayno's set!
Hellow buddy good to see you again
Hell yeah Wayno time
This was the funniest episode of ole Uncle Wayno I've seen in a while. "This ain't rocket appliances" damn I'm still laughing!
Pretty cool 😊❤🎉
Nice to have the right tools. I was waiting for you to say click while torquing those bolts.
Nice job on the blower, great to have the Kent Moore tools.
Wow you had to have been a Gearjammer at one Time!! Because you Swear like a Fuckin Truck Driver Lol
I hope you splaine to the folks in you tube land ,the blower is not a supercharger😂❤ps the newer Milwaukie has 200ft lbs I've removed the r n l axel shaft with the 5/8fine thread studs ,it is the true beast
Yeah except every blower is a supercharger buddy
But not every supercharger is a blower 😮
fascinating process, had no idea what was involved, thanks for the education.
Good job with the any umpteenths wrench
Uncle Wayno your a God Damm genius 👏 great work enjoyed the show ❤
Whoa! I'm first to post. Woohoo!
Thanks.
I like that screened gasket. I'm surprised the hot rod car guys don't use those. Also why not drive your dragster fuel pump off the blower? You have fuel flow relative to blower speed and fuel shutoff if you break your blower drive.
love it Wayne. i hope one of these days, i see you upload a video of a 51 series Detroit (the ported only detroit) that would be so cool
Some day ill have one!
@@Ol2Stroker And i'll be here for the time it happens i hope
Good job !
Yeah that was great stuff. Watched every second.
That’s a sweet tool I have two modified steering wheel pullers I use but yours work a treat man
Yea kent moore stuff is usually pretty tits
Really enjoyed this episode... One would be SOL if they did not that that tool kit to work on these blowers...... Looking forward to Spring summer hoping to see some V12 truck episodes.
Bet that thing could suck a golf ball through a garden hose...lol
Lol
Room for “two lips” with a little hand gesture 😂😂
What are you guys doing different with your Milwaukee batteries that I am not doing I beat the f*** out of mind all the time and I never have a problem
Man i dropped mine one time and the case explodes now they're all held together with zip ties.
I may be wrong but my understanding of Roots style blower is the lobes are phase locked for the duration of the service life
Want one for my Minivan 😁
Just imagine where we’d be if they taught us rocket appliances in school.
Might be a dumb question, but on performance blowers (think drag racing) it's common to get the lobes machined for Teflon strips on the tips of the rotors... To seal them up better. Would there be any point to doing it on one of these?
Those are typically set up so the teflon takes up the clearance in the blower and "seals" it... however doing this requires the fuel to pass through the blower to lube it or you will burn them up. You CAN do it, but it's a little more involved and not much to be gained.
@@Ol2Stroker makes sense. thanks for answering
Were the new seal sleeves longer than the original ones you replaced? Reason for asking is if you recessed the new seal more in the end plate would that not put the seal more to the outer edge of the seal sleeve ? And what does the second side of the double lip seal ride on ? I have rebuilt these many years ago back in the 70's and at that time we only used the single lip seal . A very good tutorial on how it's done . Thanks ...
If you change those gears around can you change the blower speed?
nice video, what is the lever on the intake horn? emergency air shut off?
Yes
@@Ol2Stroker neat.
The grease in a blower drive sticks with you long time
You can change the rotor to rotor clearance by shims moving the gear(s) in or out ,,, !
Correct
There were 2 different drive ratios for them if I remember right. One was for higher altitudes. Am I remembering right?
Yup. This is the shit one.
@@Ol2Stroker Is that the one from the W Star with the 750 Holmes?
Ain't the Teflon seals for turbo motors?
Teflon seals are for anything you don't want to leak anymore 🤣🤣
Can you please measure the seal driver flange and let me know how far it drives the seals in? I am rebuilding an 8v92 TA blower that Johnson & towers molested in my boat. It has double bypass valves. I have searched and searched for that Kent Moore kit you have, no luck. So I am going to have to build my own tools. Thanks again for such good content and details.
For the double lip seal tool?
Yes
@@canitbefixed9287 yes email me so i don't forget
Any update on the 453 detroit diesel jake brakes
9:39 - Hey man, don't be so hard on yourself for the framing. Every one of us who has ever turned a wrench knows that half of what we do is done by feel, and imagining what the fastener looks like 😅
28:44. Is that the oiling holes I see in that plate??
What is the make of your adjustable wrench ?
That ones an og craftsman i love it.
Nothing cushions a blower on a work-bench like a Deere!
Hahaha
Think you could fab up a way to put that on my mower? It’s a Kohler 21 hp.
Yea np
Shit happens uncle Wayne… carry on 😎
Just like the old pilot bushings that were in the crankshaft where the end of the transmission shaft fits into.. They were NOT supposed to be lubed... All I see now are bearings. no bushings, anymore so
From now on, I will always call blowers "magic wind machines." 😂
Do these actually make boost I understand that Detroit says only supercharged models are NA models being a 2 stroke intake and compression are one stroke and combustion and exhaust are one stroke so the air has to have some forced induction to work. So my question is how much forced induction is it
Airbox pressure is measured with a manometer, so not much. That's why it's considered na
Focus Danielson focus
At one point did they switch to a 3 lobe design?
They are 3 lobe lol
Do they have a diffrent gear set for them for more boost?
Yes but the shafts aren't as long.
Where did you get the puller set to take it apart?
Bought a bunch of special tooling awhile back
👍🏻🍻
What! Milwaukee it the shit bro! I will eventually have every thing they make! lol You probably need to invest in newer batteries, or your charger is shit!
The blowers I deal with only require a lipstick.
Those kind are expensive!
I know a guy who has 16v149 blowers for sale lol
You should put this blower to the coyote.
Awesome great job buddy I want to get something with a blower/super charger on even if it’s a 😢gas engine lol my dad had a car with a v6 super charger from factory and it was a beast for what it was
Why not clean the blower first
The only thing I don't do disconnect my battery all the time play when I charge it when it's dying I want to completely charged but if I'm doing something wrong nothing to f*** my impact gun up which I bought it used and still beating a picture out of it to this day what is wrong with your batteries
What a sellout. You are a UA-camr.
Lol why's that?
