Disagree. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the flute scene. It is a very very Fun movies but Jaws 2 was definitely better than it and honestly so was the shallows. But it was a very entertaining movie and one of those bad but great movies.

Thicker Constrictor I disagree. I don’t think it was bad at all. I think it had lots of clever ideas. And great acting. Jaws 2 isn’t bad, its just not great.

I'm not going to lie. This is one of those guilty pleasure movies that I can watch anytime it pops up. Will I purposely put this thing in the blu-ray player...of course not. That's ridiculous. But when it's on, it's fun. LL steals the show, Thomas Jane and Samuel L are the usual coolness, and the music (sans LL's head like...hold up...I actually napster'd that song back in the day so I can' say anything bad about it) is rocking good time.

I liked it. The scene when Jackson gets picked off so surprised me that I didn't notice it's supposed phony look. The female lead was sexy, the action was well staged. Although certainly no Jaws, it did it's job.

Ever hear of the Deep Blue Sea drinking game? Take a shot every time Thomas Jane falls or gets knocked down. After 20 minutes into the action you'll be like, "look how real that f*cking shark looks."

Lets be serious Deep Blue Sea is the second best Shark movie after Jaws. All the others are either straight up Jaws rip offs, way too comical to even be considered, or just doesn't give you the sense of dread or fear like one would want in a shark movie. Jaws was basically a horror movie with Bruce the Shark in the Michael Meyers role. Deep Blue Sea was also a Horror movie although more akin to the likes of Child's Play. It surprises you and gives you that sense of dread and discomfort with a side of camp and corny. Movies like Open Water and the Reef are honestly pretty boring and if not for the "based on true events" wouldn't really be entertaining to anyone. What pushes those movies is the same thing that pushed Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's the "that actually happened to someone" affect. Even if it's greatly exaggerated or just plain slow/boring, because it happened to someone it connects to viewers on a emotional level and makes them cling to everything that happens. While Deep Blue Sea is closer to the realm of a fun horror movie with an impossible villain and that makes it more fun, think Freddy Krueger. "...what you've done is taken God's oldest killing machine and given it will and desire." "What does an eight thousand pound mako shark with a brain the size of a flat head V8 engine and no natural predators think about?" Annnnnnnnnnnnnddddd that's my opinion.

It’s mindless blockbuster. It’s the kind of late 90s movie you need to watch with a grain of salt. But it has its charm, and the fact that Saffron Burrows character dies makes it unexpected. Personally, I never saw her as the vilain of the film. It’s such a meat headed and one track thinking views of thing. That would fit today’s mentality perfectly. I don’t think it’s the second best shark movie either, but it sure delivers and is fun to watch, despite some questionable CGI. I take this over the Meg any day.

I remember us renting this movie not too long after it released and it wasn't bad, pretty solid in fact. However it was lessened at Sam's death cause, hilariously, my family couldn't understand what he said right before his death so they rewound it like 5 or 6 times much like you did, bringing that old memory up.

I first watched this movie on DVD in 2006 and I loved it. Yeah the CGI was a bit dodgy but overall i feel it delivers on the scares and the paranoia of being underwater with bloodthirsty sharks.

I saw this during its original theatrical run for the unusual (?) reason that I was a huge Renny Harlin fan at the time. It was a slight disappointment at the time, given my lofty expectations, but was still quite satisfying, and it has certainly aged beautifully, CGI-warts and all - and yes, it is probably the 2nd greatest shark movie of all time. Albeit more shark action than horror, in my book. I was very pleased with the unexpected move to kill off Saffron Burrows' unlikeable character, and very surprised that OTHERS were surprised that Samuel L Jackson was also killed off. Everybody knows that the only famous actor in a horror movie will get top billing, UNLESS he or she is going to be killed off - right??

Loved it growing up! Saw it when it first came out on video at a friend's house when we were 8. Not really a movie for an 8 yr old either in hindsight. I certainly view it as one of the few legit "decent" shark movies out there. Jaws 1 & 2 I like more but this one would possibly be number 3 on my list with the Shallows and The Reef as the next 2 shark movies...actually add in the first 47 meters down as well and that'd be my shark movies list. Would love to see you do a video on Lake Placid as well. Came out the same year and it spawned a ton of terrible sequels.

Me and a friend went to see DBS. We laughed our asses off 15 minutes in and couldn't stop the rest of the way through, and pissing off a lot of dumb people in the audience. First, an arm gets bitten off, then the guy is underwater on a gurney and rammed by a shark into glass, compromising the dry interior. Then, seconds later, the emergency helicopter crashes violently, blowing the f*** up, causing a chain reaction where several stories of the science lab blow the f*** up. What are the odds all that bad luck is set off like a row of dominoes? Hilarious. One of the best comedies ever. Oh. Really? It's not supposed to be a comedy? Uh, this movie is f***ed up.

All she needed to tell him was that Mom went the store and he would have blissfully forgotten about it. Instead, she needlessly tortured an old man over and over by telling him his wife died. This scene at the beginning had me fuming for the rest of the movie.

I love the movie. It's a fun popcorn flick that you can leave your brain at the door for. I totally agree about the CGI - at its best, it's serviceable - at its worst it's... well absolutely dire. Like SyFy Channel dire. The animatronic sharks, on the other hand, are incredible and the shots of them swimming in the open water are chilling. The characters are pretty cut out and throw away with Saffron Burrows Dr being really the only one with any depth - it was a shame she had to die but it gave the movie a bit of bite as with killing Sam Jackson halfway through you were fully expecting her to survive, being the only female to make it to the end. All in all a solid, serviceable and fun 90 mins. Totally agree though that The Reef is LEAGUES ahead of this movie and remains my 2nd favourite shark movie (after Jaws and it's sequels)
