- The Lada 4×4, formerly called the Lada Niva or VAZ-2121 (Russian: Лада Нива; Niva (нива) is the Russian word for "field" but meaning crop field), is an off-road vehicle designed and produced by the Russian (former Soviet) manufacturer AvtoVAZ specifically for the rural market, although models made for urban use are sold.
It was the first mass-production off-road vehicle to combine a unibody architecture with a coil-sprung independent front suspension, and is a predecessor to current crossover SUVs, nearly all of which follow this format; it inspired the Suzuki Vitara.[3] Like the Vitara, the Lada 4×4 uses a recirculating-ball truck steering box for off-road reliability. Pickup and emergency-van versions are produced by VAZInterService.
Following the demise of the Land Rover Defender in 2016, the Niva is the longest running four wheel drive vehicle still in production in its original form.

Legendary NIVA, still running on the Egyptian Streets for almost 40 years, I Wish to see the brand new production again but the problem is in Egypt it need to be 1.6 Cc otherwise the Tax will jump from 40% to 110% and may be this is why we don't see new models from years now!!

Didn't know there was a 4 door Niva, enjoyed the build procedure, a bit suprised they didn't spray the underside in body color, would help with protection against rust along with cavity wax injection.

@@tristan6509 And yet like here in Finland, i havent ever seen only than couple 4 doors during almost 40 years in my life. Only two doors. And in videos also usually 2 doors. I havent own one.. yet! But like my relative(s) who owned one (two door). They all say that 4 doors was and is the rare one.

I have owned two since 2008 and have a 1996 Injection model as my every day driver. It's just....GREAT!

wonderful jop but you shold do something about the engine ... 1700 c.c generate only 84 hp ???!!! this 1700 c.c can make much more than this out put power ... for example you can take the 1.6 16v 110 hp of Renault it will be more powerful and light and will consume less.

Es una pena que este vehiculo no se pueda adquirir en Europa Occidental, con un filtro antipartículas y todas las modificaciones del motor, podría venderse, y sería un top 1, pues tiene una línea clásica de todo terreno. Por cierto el modelo cuatro puertas lo encuentro muy bonito. Si tuviera que comprarme un coche y estuviera a la venta en España, me lo compraría.

Es un buen todoterreno liviano y robusto una lastima que en Europa no dejen entrar está clase de vehículos sobre todo por cuestiones políticas.
Hay un concesionario ubicado en Prutting, Alemania, que vende Nivas de 3 puertas nuevas por 18 000 €.
Apparently its replacement in 2023 will be based upon a Dacia Duster.
