    Feature-wise Kamado Joe seems to be the absolute winner here. But I really like the color of Big Green Egg more, yeah I know I know..

    I bought a Kamado Joe a few years back. I was looking to upgrade to BGE. It's obviously clear which company is working harder for our money.

    • @punkem733
      @punkem733 6 років тому

      So true, the BGE company seemingly just sit on their asses and let their brand name sell overpriced, well everything. Not only kamado joe, but several other ceramic cookers have far surpassed them.

  • @matthewhartup941
    @matthewhartup941 2 роки тому +1

    I was looking at Joes.. meanwhile entered a drawing with my local sports radio station for a bge, got lucky and won my Large bge, so the decision was easy for me. That being said, you can't go wrong with a BGE.

  • @Goblues22
    @Goblues22 7 років тому +12

    You should point out that you can purchase accessories for the KJ also. I have cooked on both and both of them work exactly the same for me. However this seemed bias to the KJ to me. Could it be that is because you sell the KJ and not BGE. $ for $ Id have to go with the KJ if I needed to get another Kamado. Id be sleeping with the Dog if I did that though.

    I like both units, I saw my nephew used the joe and bbq came out perfect. I would get the joe if they have a 16” with a wheel stand. Green Egg has a medium size that would work great for me. I think Joe wins on the features. 🦅🦅🇺🇸

    • @BBQGuys

    A lot of people go for the big green egg because it’s cheaper and been around a long time. I’m pretty sure the green egg large or xl are $900 and Kamado classic 3 is like $1,500 or $1,700. I really like the kamado though.

    • @BBQGuys
      @BBQGuys  4 роки тому

      Agreed, both are great brands. BGE is tough to get online if at all. They tend to only sell to brick and mortar stores. Also, KJ does have just a bit more selection of accessories to chose from. Thanks for watching!

    looks like some nice upgrades on the KJ (from older models of KJ), except that chimney cap, I would have to see it in action to know if the aluminum works OK but initial opinion of this video is they should have kept the cast iron daisy wheel, although the daisy wheel can get funked up with grease and creosote, also would like to check out that lid opening system and see if it will hold up

    • @BBQGuys
      @BBQGuys  7 років тому

      The cap works great, I have not had an issue. Keep in mind, it will also keep the temperature adjustment you set when you open the lid, unlike most cast iron caps that will slide.

    KJ offers some major cooking upgrades, but it’s higher for a reason. You are totally paying for the extra options upfront. Green egg you have to purchase those extras separately and I’m sure if they came with it the pricing would totally fall in the same bracket. Do the math ppl.

    Which is better and I reckon there should have been a discussion about price.

  • @DanielLafleur2
    @DanielLafleur2 7 років тому +1

    Great comparison, BGE will have to include accessories and lower their prices to keep up. Have you tried a side by side comparrison test for long smokes? Which holds a consistent low 225 temp for 14-16hrs? How about a high heat torture test? Crank them both up and see how high the temps get? Which gets hotter and stays hotter the longest? BGE claims their whiter ceramic has less impurities and allows it to endure higher longer temps. I have a BGE and was thinking about getting another but the price and accessories of the kamado joe making me want ONE

    • @BBQGuys
      @BBQGuys  7 років тому +3

      Glad you enjoyed the comparison. I have not cooked on them at the same time, but I have cooked at high & low temperatures on both grills. They both hold heat incredibly well. I would feel confident letting them both go overnight to smoke something like a brisket. A head to head comparison would not be exact because of wind variables. You can cook an incredible steak on both grills as well, the main thing to consider with Kamados is the heat is retained so well by the lid.. if you have a thinner cut of steak you will just want to sear with the lid open for the first portion of the cook for your highest heat. Close the lid to cook it through to your desired doneness. The added accessories are a definite advantage for KJ.

      LOL as long as there are people like you out there, inferior products will continue to sell due to wanting to save a little cash. BGE and accessories are made much better than Kamado Joe, just look at the temp gauge...BGE=Tel Tru / Kamado=foreign junk. BGE doesn't need to "keep up" with any other manufacturer. BGE is the best ceramic cooker hands down. If you can't afford the best you can settle for something like Kamado Joe.

      Kamado Joe is way superior. BGE is good but they where resting on their laurels for many years. That's when the competition takes over !

    • @belavet
      @belavet 5 років тому +1

      JT the tell tru is superior, but it's ultimately a $30 deal out you can easily do. Mine crapped out in my egg after 6 years (water ingress somehow) and needed replacing. Very easy.
      Having cooked on a joe as well, their hinge system is superior. So much so I'd buy one if I could but I don't believe they're an exact proper fit.
      I'd also say the joe chimney cap is superior, but better than both is the smokeware stainless product. I love that thing more than any first party product I've seen.
      I'd give the edge to the egg in the airflow grate. The joe's ash pan seems awesome on paper but in practice is cumbersome. The spark arrestor mesh on the egg is an additional layer of safety against errant sparks (but there are third party identical products you can put on your joe for around $30).
      Lastly, ceramic materials I am unsure are much of a difference from one brand to the other. Afaik companies both produce their ceramics in Mexico. And both have a lifetime warranty in ceramics.

      If you are planning on transporting your Kamado a lot, I would reccommend the Blaze Kamado. www.bbqguys.com/brands/blaze-grills/blaze-kamado-grill?sstring=blaze%2Bkamado It is cast out of Aluminium, so you don't have to worry about it breaking & it has the same great heat retention of ceramic models. Ceramic Kamados can be transported if they are well strapped in, but it certainly would be nice to have a metal one that you don't have to worry about.

      But what is the pro of the BGE over the KJ? The review might be a bit biased, but it really seems that the KJ took the BGE design and upgraded everything about it in an attempt to make it better to take market share from BGE. ie; they wanted a more features to combat BGE's name recognition. I think they succeeded. In the end, they both work. For my money though, I'd probably go with KJ.
