In 1980 I used to drive 20km to a cafe which was the closest place to where I lived that had Missile Command just so I could play it. It’s still amongst my favourite of arcade games.
It must have been something in all it's glory back when it was first released. I can see it being different than everything, and at the same time we're in a damn Cold War too....
Oh man, I absolutely loved thus game. They had this down at my local swimming pool, stood next to a Battle Zone cabinet. I went swimming every day in the school holidays just to be able to play Missile Command. They always had two cabinets. Eventually Battle Zone was replaced by Asteroids and Missile Command was replaced by the mighty Pac Man. Your videos take me back to the happiest times. Thanks for filming all these classics. Great channel
Thank you for the nice memories Drumfreak, that's pretty cool hearing about how things were when these first came out, I wasn't old enough to notice at the time. I appreciate you peeling the years back a little bit and telling us where you saw these and thanks for the kind words about the channel, we'll see you on the next video!
Ron - great video 4 years later. I used to own an arcade in the 80's and this was THE game to have. One of the top ten video games of all time in my opinion. Still love it to this day. I wish I would have had a repair tech as great as you are. Practice, Ron, Practice...cheers! :)
I love this game. I used to be amazing at it. I would play for hours on quarter. When i was a teen in the 90's there was a Deli near me that had this game. They had it set up so you didn't need quarters. In the summer I would play every day. There was a point when every high score initials said. DON all the way down, which is my name... Love that game...
My memory is never that good, I have a friend Trevor who's the world's best at remembering all those scenes in movies :) You'd think it wouldn't be in Terminator 2 because the game would be like 10 years old by then!
This was my world in 1980. I was 11 years old and spent countless hours on this game. The owner used to pay me not to play 😂. Great memories. One of best games ever . Great job Atari!
Joe's Classic Video Games thanks to people like yourself who keep the classics alive. I would take these any day over what’s out there now. Do you still have a missle command cab? I’ve been looking for one for my 50th birthday treat to myself. Also space invaders, mrs Pac-Man on my list! 👍🏻
I was there... & we didn't have this in our local arcade for a while after the first opening & after games like Frogger Pac-Man, Donkey Kong left. I remember Missle Command coming around the same time they got Tron. I'm not sure about it being the first color game. By 1980 they were all pretty much color, I do remember one B & W game, but can't remember the name, just remember thinking how odd it was when all other games were color. Also throwing a fit over getting a color TV in my room instead of B&W lol. Also I'm remembering the Missle Comman machine we played had out interior lights that really lit up as u were playing and missiles were exploding. Man what a glorious time to live thru, just telling my son how Gen X were the first generation to do worst than thier parents, then have thier children exceed them also haha. We had too much to focus on with video games starting and instead of school we needed to spend time in the arcade. The height of arcades only lasted a few years, but what a few years and tons of stories to tell over those first crazed years of arcades, until Nintendo came out in 1987, 88 beginning the fall of acades.
Hey +1 for the video brother - I was gonna bust your stones for "Hey they took my quarter!" and for generally all around horrible play LOL However that being said, I still +1 you for reminding people how awesome the classic games were and for having the ballz to post and just generally bring a little happiness into everyone's day. Because let's face it, playing games no matter what generation you're into, is a bit of JOY and we could all use that! So THANK YOU brother, and hope you don't mind me messin' around a bit and that you know I'm 'bout to play Missile Command right now on my own MAME machine because of the inspiration you put out here! Eh, I mean 4 years ago. But whatever right? Peace broja
@@LyonsArcade Oh and what a horrible score I ended up with! LOL! Made me laugh my damn self silly and then remembered - it don't matter - all that matters is - I had fun. Thanks again brother. Dunno what else you got there for videos but I'm about to find out.
@@LyonsArcade And brother I really am sorry if I sounded like too much the dbag there. I really do enjoy videos like yours, they remind me about "the good ole days" and things that I have to be joyful about today - but too often forget. Being able to play that game (thank you MAME folks) on a cheap computer (thank you Raspberry Pi folks) using a great controller (thank you Tank-Stick folks) - well when I pull my head outta my arse for a minute and play a few games I really am overwhelmingly thankful and joyful. And your video sparked a whole lotta that in me today. I really hope that others find the same thing, and you do as well brother. Peace /D
reticule = a small handbag or purse, ca 1790-1820 reticle = fine lines or fibers in an optical device often used for locating an object(s) Fortunately I am familiar with antiques and am also a professional missileer...
This is another favorite game I love. I played this at Eastwood Mall arcade in Warren Ohio and I think Cedar Point arcade in Sandusky Ohio. I think I got as high as the 3rd or 4th level because it would start going to fast for me to follow the cross if I had to move the trackball quickly. All in all it is a great game. I wonder if there is a way to slow down the speed of the game where the difficulty can be set at a higher level? I notice it starts getting fast at level 5 so wondered if there's a setting that you can adjust so it gets faster say at level 9 or 10? I notice this game doesn't show "The End" when you loose.
I don't think there's a difficulty setting but maybe! I was never any good at it... I have seen the "The End" part but not sure why it doesn't show up sometimes, maybe I didn't score enough?

love the artwork, definitely one of my favorites arcade games
+The Kong Yeah they really did a great job with the cabinet.

Man it's a tough one, I can't get anywhere on it (as you can see!). practice makes perfect, though!
I remember this from thaat scene in Terminator 2 where John Conner was playing Missile command in the arcaade.

He also was playing sega's afterburn

Very cool, I was NEVER good at it, as you can see on camera :) As long as you were playing man he couldn't make any sweet quarters :)

We don't have a Missile Command in at the moment unfortunately, they're getting pretty hard to come by!
Joe's Classic Video Games well if you do... let me know! 👍🏻 I will drive my New York ass down there and get it!
I was 14 when first exposed to this game. I really miss the early 80s. Amazing collection you have, (heart warming)!
Jim Arita and Bob Flemate were Atari artists. Presumably they produced the cabinet art.
They did a great job!
Brings me Back. I Remember the first time I Rolled this Game Over in Sitka Alaska. The Big Dipper Arcade.
Very cool!
...how lovely, absolutely beautiful. Joe, you've out done yourself; I am officially impressed.
Thank you, that's very nice of you to say.
I had a dream that I had one of these cabinets in my garage.. if only :[
Maybe you should go check, somebody might have dropped one off!
40 years old game and still plays like a charm. Atari Magic.

Would be nice if they made 4.5 inch trackballs. If they do I can't find em. I imagine it gives you a better feel of control.
I guess if you make the high-score list you don't get the giant "THE END" explosion.
That makes sense, I was never very good at Missile Command.

Patriot and the Skud.
Nice video. I have the cabaret cabinet. It's hard to break 20k points in this game. Love this game though.
You see the video evidence of how hard it was for me to play :)
@@LyonsArcade its brutal
thanks good video
Thanks Rafael!
Awesome!
Yeah, a true classic!
That´s not the original ! that´s smaller than the original and the artwork is different even the iluminated name letters of the game aren´t the same.
