I know it's silly, but I really wish the V stage had used a wood-coloured brown for the areas that were made as red. Or any other colour, to not look like copycat styling.
It seems everyone basically just repackages everything because lets face it sonically there is so little room for improvement as these workstations are so advanced already.
I have started to wonder how the product teams at these companies conclude that repackaging a ~20% improvement in sounds & software capability in all new hardware. Does each one really need to put out an 'upgrade' which is more like a facelift each 2-3 year cycle just to keep up with their competitors' minor tweaks.
It probably is the case that there are diminishing returns when the products are already so good. Most reviews of the Nord Stage 4 said "keep your Nord Stage 3", even though they acknowledged that the 4 was slightly better with a few more features, but not by enough to justify upgrading from the already excellent 3.
The pitch stick on the Nord is one of the things I really like about the Nord Stage. You can really create controlled vibrato's with it, because it's got the right amount of resistance.
I can't understand Nord's refusal to simply integrate 2 standard wheels with all their keyboards either. Because then you could use all of them as a midi controller as well. At their prices, the lack of standard wheels is almost a deal breaker for me.
There are other paths to this. The Yamaha CK series has excellent EP & Clavinet. It has very good Hammond with drawbars (fast Leslie is a bit squirrelly, but you don’t really notice in a live stage mix). It has many other very good sounds. The piano works well in a rock/pop band and has good polyphony. The tenor sax sound is very good, many synth sounds are very good, I could go on… pair the CK61 with an inexpensive weighted 88 key midi board (like the old Casio CDP100), and for $1200 or less you’re set.
@ Might be true, but not everyone has the kind of $$ needed to get the ‘better’ unit - but they still need the sounds. If money is no object you get what you want. Most gigging musicians don’t fall into the “no object” societal echelon.
I wouldn't say Nord pianos are better. I think Roland pianos just have a different character and the whole concept of V-Piano technology is the fact that it is modelling and not sample based. So you can create any kind of piano you want essentially. I love Nord pianos but i think at this point i need to bring some objectivity in this discussion.
Creating your "own piano" patches sounds good on paper, but when the rubber meets the road, Nord's pianos are just too good and realistic compared to Roland. Can you create Nord pianos on that Roland? Lol.
@@JojoRichards2005 Perhaps. I do like the on-board features on that Roland though. Having a dedicated section for the Electric Pianos is pretty impressive.

I started out hating the Nord 'bender,' but I grew to love it. Why? Because you can do vibrato (rather than dial in an LFO with aftertouch). Not really possible on a pitch wheel because of the inertia/form factor. On the Stage it feels very natural, IMO. I saw a guy using the joystick on a Korg DW8000 for that technique years ago and I've always felt it adds an expression rarely seen in keyboards. If you use any virtual guitar sounds, it's priceless!

One of the biggest reasons why Roland wins with the Synth game and as an Auxiliary Board Players favorite go to is because of 2 of their sound designers that they use to create their sounds. If you’ve never heard Monte Nueble’s set up on Aux you are greatly missing out! Dude can make a June 2 and D-50 sound better than anything on the market today. He is the youngest brother of the famous Nueble Bros Jimmy & Mike of West Angeles COGIC. Dude plays with Mary J Blige and is a whole band by himself. He’s a master of sound design and constructing sounds on vintage and modern day equipment. Valdez Brantley bro to Kern Brantley former MD of Destiny’s Child. Valdez was Usher’s MD for over a decade and is known for his innovative approach to playing the Aux Board position. There aren’t 2 people in the game that can out design those cats! And this is why I believe that Roland has the Aux sounds on lock!
Looks like Roland is the new Behringer. Finally the competition is increasing in this segment and Nord will have to cut their silly high prices. I get a strange feeling that the Nord Piano 6 release was just an excuse for increasing the price even further so that they can then start cutting the price in the future and still make loads of money.

I have the Stage 4 and have loved my Roland 700NX which has a far superior piano action. For me, I just do not like any of the pianos on the Stage 4, they all feel artificial, synthetic. Nord have this stupid thing of only giving you 1 gb of memory and expecting you to cram all of your sounds into it. It even gives you the option of decreasing the quality of your sounds by not using XXL sounds (bigger) and replacing them with XL and smaller sounds. We do not need this silly confinement, the board is already way over priced and we should have at least 1TB of storage space on board. That’s 1000 times more. Then we would have room for proper sounds. This madness is never talked about, but you simply can’t put hundreds of high quality sounds into such a tiny amount of Storage. To get around this, in part only, they off a system of deleting your factory presets and downloading other instruments. ATop of the line acoustic VSL piano collection is 350 gbs. Nord want it all in 1 gb including all of your EPs and other sounds. Nords excuse is that their memory is expensive, it’s claimed as super fast, but all VST pianos run off M.2 drives and give excellent performance, so we do NOT need this excuse. The things I do like are the layout, it’s really hands on, dry little menu diving. There is a very good, but limited Rhodes sound called Stockholm, which you have to delete other sounds to download but it’s right. The organ is pretty good, the sim not so much. The action is a compromise, it’s got a triple sensors which do make a difference, but on my recent trips to piano superstores, I have found that most actions are trying to satisfy new ie fingers, they are lighter. The Nord is like this. If I take my Nord out, it is with a laptop, I have VSTs with better sounds like the Hammond B3X and other piano sounds.
Is not possible on V-STAGE. You can only import sounds made using ZEN-Core (any gear!) and obviously, Roland Expansions from Roland Cloud. Multisample/Sampled sounds, only on FANTOM Series.
I’m really surprised that I like the V-Pianos so much, as a Nord guy I think Roland has just caught up in terms of the grands. Not super impressed with the uprights though
I don't think Nord pianos are as good as Kawai's rendering engine, and perhaps even their Harmonic Imaging XL engine. Same for Roland's top modelling engines...
Have you not heard of Dexibell.? The piano on those boards make nord sound lacking. Also i dont think its fair to say nord has the Best piano sound when this board hasn't even been given a chance yet lol.
@Johnmike Haha, yes sir. And agreed, i tried the Vivo sx7 sound module that led me to purchasing their flagship keyboard the Vivo S10, never felt or played anything like it, try it out if u can at NAMM. It has bluetooth, and audio through usb with midi so that u can play and control all your vsts. Not to mention the only real board with motorized faders and unlimited polyphony.
Just seeing the thumbnail... never. Nord is number 1 and if Roland couldn't get up with the fantom series... 🤷🏽♂️ not knocking Roland but.. nords got it locked in
It's a nobody killer. Your average middle class musician can't afford to pay that kind of bucks. Keyboards are getting way to expensive and overpriced.
I prefer Yamaha and Korg pianos. That’s why I’ll never sell my Kronos or YC. My Nord stage 3 is great too. Never a fan of Roland pianos. Great looking board tho. Nice to see competition, keep these other companies on their toes.
Nord is easy to beat, they have bad mechanics and buttons are easy to pull of, I think they fall of by themselves within a year. Hammond is bad on Nord, I was not impressed. The pitch-bend wheels are not there on Nord, that's killing the instrument. However, there is a better alternative for the Roland V-Stage, that is the Hammond SK-Pro. I also have a Roland Fantom 8, but it is 30 kg so I needed something light for on stage, which is now the HAMMOND SK-PRO. I love my instruments, but this thing is 2 years too late on the market. Probably it's also not a hammond touch-a-like.
Roland Stage sounds a little better than the nord to me the nord sounds are to mickey mouse and thinn, especially the organ sounds like a plastic toy now the crumar has that fat jazz organ identical to my B-3 hammond and a real fender rhoads piano sounds that is my view,

Nord killin em all the way! The Organs on Roland don’t even sound real
doper and doper your so hip red like a NORD
What about sampling / multisampling capabilities ?
We shall see
Is not possible on V-STAGE. You can only import sounds made using ZEN-Core (any gear!) and obviously, Roland Expansions from Roland Cloud. Multisample/Sampled sounds, only on FANTOM Series.
@@jerdure it's a stage piano, not a workstation
@@andywharam4846 but Nord can do it, it’s been really useful for me over the years
@@andreluizkeys I see, so could it mean one could make a parch with his own samples on Roland Cloud (I never used it until now) ?
Andy from Roland v stage deep dive at andertons tv
Korg is close to nord but you are right
I’m really surprised that I like the V-Pianos so much, as a Nord guy I think Roland has just caught up in terms of the grands. Not super impressed with the uprights though
You can't beat a nord. No one has ever come close
I don't think Nord pianos are as good as Kawai's rendering engine, and perhaps even their Harmonic Imaging XL engine. Same for Roland's top modelling engines...
Roland v piano tech is ages ahead of nord, I will never understand the blind fanboyism over them
Have you not heard of Dexibell.? The piano on those boards make nord sound lacking. Also i dont think its fair to say nord has the Best piano sound when this board hasn't even been given a chance yet lol.
We shall see lol but yea I’ve heard of Dexibell they are great…they just haven’t really gotten much traction here in the US
@Johnmike Haha, yes sir.
🤷🏽♂️ not knocking Roland but.. nords got it locked in
Eek, the color scheme reminds of the first CME UF series. Not the best association..
Make (a)loop great again

Roland Stage sounds a little better than the nord to me the nord sounds are to mickey mouse and thinn, especially the organ sounds like a plastic toy now the crumar has that fat jazz organ identical to my B-3 hammond and a real fender rhoads piano sounds that is my view,
Roland can’t touch nord never have never will the keybed on the nord is light years ahead
No. it isn't .
Roland sucks.. Period...
