  • Over 10 minutes of uninterrupted underwater footage that I managed to capture on a recent day session to a local day ticket water in Cambridgeshire.
    Enjoy a crystal clear picture and a great insight into a few of the lakes stock feeding on my marginal spot over my liquid boosted sweetcorn.

      Yes, if the rig isn't 100% suited to a particular spot and baiting situation then it can be picked up and discarded several times over quite easily.
      Luckily on this lake the water is crystal clear and I could see everything that was happening so after a couple of little tweaks, the very next pick up resulted in the hooked fish at the end of the film

    I had silver tail nearly 15 years ago it was my first 20lb fish . I have also had it recently at over 30lb and my mate had it at 35lb. It’s and old fish now and showing the signs of age but it still keeps on going. Had some great days here.

    • @SpecialistAnglingMedia
      @SpecialistAnglingMedia  4 роки тому

      She's certainly a wrinkly old character these days but it's very rare to do a day down there without seeing her at least once with her tail and pecs giving the game away.
      I had her a couple of years ago at 33lb odd and have had her feeding right in the edge a couple of times too. Would love to get a bit of underwater footage of her at some point but I get too caught up in the enjoyment of catching a few fish when i'm down there sometimes so the filming takes a bit of a back seat

      I had a bigger fish on this year and lost it at the net. It dwarfed silver tail. Was absolutely devastated. Never seen it before had it from the middle on zig. Would have loved to have seen it on the bank. You know yourself they look even bigger on the bank and this thing was huge !! My mate Barry was with me

    • @SpecialistAnglingMedia
      @SpecialistAnglingMedia  4 роки тому

      @@savagestu30 that's interesting to hear. I cant say I've ever seen or heard of anything bigger than Silvertail but with the days only rule and the depth of water in there it wouldn't overly surprise me if there's a few fish that steer well clear of the margins and only ever feed out in the deeper water

    • @savagestu30
      @savagestu30 4 роки тому

      There is definitely bigger in there. I have fished here for over 15 years and over the last few years there are some big fish coming through. And like you mentioned there are fish that hold up in the middle that don’t get caught. Really dark in colour too. I had a few this year adjustable zig fishing which was a great way to get to them. It’s good to see them feeding on the shelf like that. Also they are some of the hardest fighting fish I have caught. Don’t you think

      Yes there are an awful lot of variables to take into account when baiting but when you know they're definitely hungry and on it they can get through serious amounts of bait very quickly!
      Between myself and a friend we went through 30kg of corn on this lake one day and ran out with over 2 hours of our 13 hour day to go!
      The CC Moore LO30 liquid is well worth a look when adding attraction to your bait also as my corn always gets coated and soaked in this prior to a session on this particular venue as it holds them in the area grubbing about until every last little bit of bait has gone!

    Nice video! I've fished this lake and had the white tipped tail fish earlier this year. It's an interesting lake for sure. I do miss this place.. But I had to stop going there though after being threatened by another 'Angler' there who didn't like that I was fishing the swim he wanted...

    • @SpecialistAnglingMedia
      @SpecialistAnglingMedia  4 роки тому +2

      That's a shame to hear although there's always people out there wanting to cause problems of some sort it seems and unfortunately with day ticket lakes it's a lot harder to filter those kind of people out! I'm sure if you let the owner know then she'd soon have a word with the culprit(s) if you were ever down there and it happened again as she's not one to stand by and do nothing if there are idiots around.
      Silver Tail is a cracking fish and absolutely full of character. I had her just under two years back after a couple of very near misses previously when fishing close in on top of the shelf and once on the very spot where this was filmed in fact

    • @morganash88
      @morganash88 4 роки тому

      @@SpecialistAnglingMedia Yes, I rang her about the threats and she sent her son up to the lake to have words, but later when she came to collect the ticket money, all she said was that 'He's a regular and not normally like that'... I too was a regular and just wanted some quiet fishing, so as she took no action against him I told her I'd never come back.. ( regretted saying that later.. ) Yes 'Silvertail' is a real old warrier of a Carp, and very distinctive with those bulging eyes! I had her on breadflake which was a nice way to get her :) I also use corn and maize like you to great effect - my favourite Carp bait.

    • @SpecialistAnglingMedia
      @SpecialistAnglingMedia  4 роки тому

      Hi Dwight, they're called roach and although carp will occasionally eat live fish, it's quite rare for them to do so unless it's really small fry

    • @dwightstewart7181
      @dwightstewart7181 4 роки тому

      @@SpecialistAnglingMedia .. Lol. I don't think the roach were quite convinced of that. Anyway, Carp are omnivorous, meaning they have wide food preferences, including both meat and plant matter. Since they do disrupt aquatic plants and other fish species, they're often considered undesirable (an invasive species) with frequent efforts towards extermination.

    • @SpecialistAnglingMedia
      @SpecialistAnglingMedia  4 роки тому +1

      @@dwightstewart7181 Hi Dwight, from your response I'm guessing you're likely to be from either the USA or Australia?
      I understand carp are considered as rather undesirable in those countries on the whole due to their tendency to take over waterways, mainly due to the warmer climates and their ability to breed in very large numbers but that could not be further from the truth when it comes to most UK and European waters.
      Carp will eat the vast majority of things but their main diet would normally consist of natural bugs, insects and the like. Water snails, shrimp, mussels, bloodworm and many different types of larvae would be their main diet in a truly natural environment but live fish would make up a very small percentage of this, if any at all.
      In the vast majority of cases, unless they are very small fry after spawning then live fish would be completely safe around carp and the reason they move out is because they are pushed out and away from the food source being occupied by the larger and more dominant species.
      This is often the same case with much larger species such as bream and tench also which are far too large to be eaten by any carp, but will get "moved on" in a feeding situation.

      @@dwightstewart7181 Hi Dwight, there was no argument being made, just discussing the topic and putting opinions and the facts about their dietary habits in our waters out there.
      If live fish made up a large part of their diet then we, as anglers, would use live fish as bait in the same way as we do for predators such as pike, perch, zander, catfish and the like, but it isn't a large part of their diet, if any part at all, so we dont 👍

      Hi Dalton, i'm glad your enjoyed the footage. It didn't take them long at all in all honesty. When there's a few carp feeding on a spot at a time then a couple of kilos of bait will sometimes be gone in a minute or two. Great vid good learning curve I’d try maybe just two grains of fake corn n a shorter hair as it looked like they spooked a lot before you nailed one I’m not try to teach you how to suck eggs in anyway it’s just what I’ve learnt give it ago n see if you catch more??

    • @SpecialistAnglingMedia
      @SpecialistAnglingMedia  5 років тому +1

      Hi Albie, it actually turned out to be the opposite and I lengthened the hair to give the hook a little more freedom and also shortened the rig by a couple of inches with the carp feeding on such a tightly baited area with me trying to get pick ups in front of the camera.
      The rig I was using at the start of the film was just my usual go to for this lake which has caught me hundreds of carp and usually accounts for catches of anywhere between 10-15 fish a day but it's usually being fished over a wider spread of bait which keeps the carp moving around a little more and so the longer rig is much more effective over that kind of baiting approach, especially with the extra weed which is present on the second shelf I'm normally fishing.
      To cut a long story short, i just shouldn't have been so lazy and should've tied up a shorter rig to begin with rather than leaving the same one on but it got a bit of interesting footage with how easily they can get away with things when the hooklink isn't tightened and the weight of the lead isn't brought into account

      It started around 8" in length but because I saw it get unsuccessfully picked up a couple of times I shortened this up to around 5" due to the way they were feeding "on the spot" rather than moving around from bait to bait and also lengthened the hair to give the hook a little more freedom to catch hold.
      If you watch my first video, you will see the basics of the rig explained more in depth on there.

    Very nice video hope there will be more :)
    I would also like to shoot some underwater videos but I don't have the right equipment for that yet. By any chance, does anyone know of a camera with that is suitable for online viewing of underwater footage at a distance of at least 100 meters from the camera location? I'm imagining placing the camera and being able to connect wirelessly to the camera using a smartphone for example.

    • @SpecialistAnglingMedia
      @SpecialistAnglingMedia  2 роки тому +1

      I have an underwater one up of Wels Catfish which is well worth a watch.
      I'm sure it is possible having the setup you mentioned above but you'd need some sort of direct cable between the camera and dry land as you won't get any kind of WiFi or Bluetooth signal to travel through water
