Same. Dont quote me on this but I believe there were a couple studies on animal sentience, that is, if they are capable of abstract thinking and communicating to or near the level humans do. I believe there was one done on apes. The issue was that the researchers felt that they couldnt be certain that the answer was yes because in their study, the apes never really questioned anything, and it seems that the apes didnt even consider that humans may not know everything. I really want to see more studies being done because I think many animals are smarter than they appear to be. Perhaps some are capable of thinking philosophically and we dont know yet.

Bunny once asked: "Why do you love me?" to which she replied "Because we are friends." Bunny the asked "What is love?" These is something profound in the fact they can discuss abstract concepts such as love and friendship.

how is it asking questions? the "what" button could have any other soundeffect on and could have any meaning to the dog, the owners give certain buttons their personal meaning and it's on them to interpret the dogs actions. The dog could think whatever about any of the buttons. It can't press the "go outside" button sarcastically or symbolically. It can't use the soundeffects to describe something completely different than the responses it has been taught. there is no meaning. I doubt you could even rearrange the buttons. I mean there are words like "friends" or "love" on it, now let's be serious. The dog is just performing tricks and not using language, no matter how cute.

All these new videos of dogs and cats learning to use buttons has really changed how I think of their sentience. I already knew they were thinking, caring creatures, but I guess I always thought they lived in the moment through feelings. I never quite considered just how thoughtful they could be.

The gorilla telling handlers the story of losing his mom to poachers through sign language is another one of those eye openers.

I think alot of people love this idea of communication with their pets, but probably don't realise how time consuming this is. Imagine raising a child, that's essentially what your doing but with a friend. You would have to train the dog to be diligent and obedient, you would have to care religiously about your animal. I hope no one saw this and thought wow this is going to be a fun little toy I can use with my dog.

I don't think anyone appreciated how smart a dog really can be or just how deeply they love and care for us until we gave them the opportunity to speak to us in a way we can most easily understand. Dogs look to us for comfort just as we look to them, they love us more than anything else in this world, and being able to talk with them is in many respects the greatest gift we have ever given ourselves. Please, treasure your dogs as they treasure you, it is a joy like no other. Damn, I miss my dogs so much, I've lost plenty of human family but somehow losing a dog weighs most heavily with very few exceptions. Why must the universe be so cruel and take away dogs so soon? 😢

This is just like those ape language studies in the 1960’s. The dog isn’t really communicating in the sense of how we talk, it’s responding to stimuli provided by her owner. It’s no different than you teaching your dog that “sit” means to sit down. It can learn to associate certain words with outcomes but the owner is doing most of the interpretation, which is obviously biased.

Input/output communication is how toddlers and small children learn how to talk. Sure, the animal's owner may have some bias in how intelligent their dog actually is, but there is still a level of communication going on here. Think about the complexities of animals body language. It's not too much of a stretch to think that they can associate/express some of those body language cue through buttons, and use input/output variables like "outside" "potty" "play" in relatively basic combinations to form basic phrases on the same level as say a 1 1/2 to 2 y/o, depending on when you start to train your dog based on the button format

@@QockNobblr lol, it is "much of a stretch". You clearly have absolutely no idea the intellect an organism requires to communicate actively. 🤣

You could say the EXACT same about humans then. We are just organisms. Just animals. That’s exactly how humans learn language too. There is nothing special about our species, sorry to break it to you bud. That kind of outlook on life will only make you unhappy. Wake up.

  • @randysmith6493

well that’s it i think, they have been talking all along. Water buffalo rescues turtle, Beluga whale notices girl looses phone overboard and swims down and retrieves it returning to the person who dropped it. Dog gets in way of car and won’t move until driver gets and and dog leads driver to endangered cat. It’s more of consciousness sharing then talk. Humans seems to only use it in dreams if and only if they pay attention to their dreams. Dreams can communicate messages, you need to learn the picture meaning of the symbols, the more you practice the more relative the symbology of the symbols and confirmation communication exist. with whom you might think, well, those who are no longer in physical body.

My Pitbull (a rescue) saw me throwing her "land mines" into the woods and started "dumping her packages" along the treeline so I didn't have to walk back and forth.

Dogs had the ability to understand our speech for a long time. Probably longer than we realize. It's just they don't have the vocals to be able to replicate our sounds. So I really love the idea of these buttons, and wish I had them when I had my dog. I wonder what stuff you have on all those buttons. There so many of them.
