They are known as "the face of rock in kpop" for a reason. Would love for you to react to their other genres like jazz bar (jazz), black or white (funk), Silent Night or in the frozen (edm) ❤
Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 "Bon Voyage" is the 3rd and final part of the Apocalypse trilogy, which is about the destruction of the environment by humanity. The members have mentioned that it is about giving nature a break. Any encounter between human beings always has separation attached to it as well, just as death is a part of life. SuA also said that the fluffy floating thing that Dami summons from her painting is a cell, representing nature. It has been named "Celly" and is adorable, right? My dark mind believes that they are saying "Have a good trip" to humanity, since we are well on our way of wiping ourselves out. It's like a breakup between humanity and the earth. Once humanity is gone, nature gets the break it needs and the circle will begin again. For me, the key to understanding the lyrics is that they are singing as human beings, not as a single person. And they are singing to nature, confessing their love and the realization that we are not good for nature and that it probably resents us. It could also be the other way round (them singing as mother nature to humanity). SuA jumping out after the dove seem to represent their desire for peace. The story of the MV seems to be that the rest of humanity has sheltered away under force fields after the apocalypse. This gives nature time to heal. Musically I can already say this is one of their best songs for me. The chorus slaps hard, and the variations between heavy and slow are just beautiful. It has emotion and impact at the same time. Putting JiU's sweet voice together with an acoustic guitar is simply genius. "Endless Night" isn't even their heaviest song, which is "No More". 😉 But they are really going into Babymetal territory here. The lyrics speak about their struggles as Minx and how happy they are to be Dreamcatcher now! Especially when it was clear that Minx had failed, they were in a dark place, hoping for "one more chance", which their company provided, much to all our luck. It is a rare thing in K-Pop that a failed group gets another chance, but their CEO is like an uncle to them. He even said in an interview that the failure of Minx was on the company, not the girls. And that if Dreamcatcher failed as well, he would become a cucumber farmer to support the girls. That is unheard of in K-Pop. Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.
Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher! They've got an amazing discography, and the girls are a bunch of goofy crackheads, despite their often-imposing presence in MVs and on stage. If you like their anime sound then their Nightmare Series is probably what I'd tell you to check out next. This starts with their debut song and spans 7 title tracks. Chase Me Good Night Fly High You & I What Piri Breaking Out (This is their first Japanese release and an alternate ending to the nightmare storyline) Enjoy!
You discovered a hidden gem. Plus, I've not seen anyone react to their japanese releases for a long time 🎉 That said..they've done work for video games, Japanese anime and Kdramas.
