Wok chefs suffer a lot of arm and shoulder injuries. Many have to retire early in their carreers. I think they really should go to the gym and do esp. weight training. Those big woks with food in them can weigh probably about nine to ten pounds. A small wok for household food prep. is around three and a half pounds empty.
😀😀😀😀True enough. I did a muscular, labor intensive craft(steel drum making) for decades. I suffer from a lot of residual joint and muscle injuries. When I was younger I understood the need for excercise but I never followed through. I regret that today.
I used to work at panda Express and I gotta say that doing that is hard to do, especially if your a beginner. You wake up the next morning with a sore arm.
I am a chef , small woks is cool to me . But I’m still learning how to cook with big wok , you need to use steel ring as a pivot . The hok (spatula) is used to push the ingredients forward , you put the wok down in order for you catch those ingredients . I used to train myself , holding the wok for hours . And i had sore thumb for holding the heavy wok for too long .
I cooked with a wok that big at Panda & it was so heavy with the food in it I can barely flip it :/. They expect you to know every single recipe in one day.
tasting is easy, literally everybody can do that, handling a really heavy wok over a fire like that is not, it takes experience and strength, which many ppl would not be able to do. Also it is not because he tastes that it means he knows what it should taste like or what to do when it doesn't taste good, maybe he does, but it is impossible to know only by the fact that he tastes. I just don't understand ppl like you, it seems incredibly stupid to me to make a remark like yours.. but then again, maybe I'm stupid and don't know it
In Temple Street in Hong Kong they cook in giant woks with huge flames below them right in the open air. Every so often one of the woks catches fire and it's fireworks time for a few moments!
@@XtheeU In culinary training, we had two cups at our stations: one for clean spoons and one for used spoons. We never allowed a spoon that had touched our mouths to touch more food. We either poured/dropped the food from the "cooking" spoon into the "tasting" spoon, or the tasting spoon was a single-use spoon. And once it had touched our mouths it did NOT get set on the table/counter; it went into the dishwasher-bound "dirty dish" container.
You need to make an appointment with the Physio, as if you keep handling the large wok like that, ladle and spatula can be used, unless you just want to show off, good luck!
When you are a chef ,you don't need to go to gym, your kitchen is your gym
Bullshit

If you’re having a sore arm from doing this, you’re not doing it correctly lol. It’s not tiring at all.
lmao i guess cuz im asian i feel like cooking on wok is easier than a cast iron but still i prefer cast iron

@@H0rseMac explain how so?
The fact that he tasted means he is a good chef
Was that spoon from tasting a previous dish tho…
@@jleung85 Always a skeptic, I was thinking the same thing, lol.
Yes,as a cook must confirm the food is good before give to a customer

Most impressive for me was that he tasted it. A good cook.
I know right? That's impressive.
Aren't that normal ????
BUT, it seems like he will use that same spoon for tasting other dishes as well. Not sanitary at all.
