I'm sure someone has already pointed this out in the comment section, but Josh, the reason why Twilight can't compete is for two reason. 1. She had just recently aquired her wings. She is still learning how to use them. At this point she's almost as clumsy as Derpy. 2. She is a princess. She's royalty. She is not allowed to enter these kinds of events because of her status.
@@schwarzerritter5724 Are you talking about the flashback from episode that involves Rainbow's parents? We didn't know that until season 7, which is much later than this.
Yeah, despite common wisdom and military manuals around the world claiming so, exercising on a full stomach does not cause cramps. It may however lead to regurgitation depending on what muscle groups you are exercising and just how much you consumed. What does cause cramps is your nervous system experiencing rapid change particularly from dehydration and malnutrition. So hydrate regularly and eat normally, ideally 2-4 hours before the workout to give your body enough time to digest fully.

I truly believe that this episode was a rush job. Thanks in part to the fact that the derring-do reveal episode was supposed to be Rainbow Dash’s key episode originally, but the writers felt that Dash wouldn’t be so quick to give up the book at the critical moment so they rushed this story out to give her something else to use as the key instead. Okay, yeah, there's a lot of stupidity about the ponies not being on the team, but I can definitely see why Twilight wouldn't be on the team. She's an alicorn princess now, she's probably supposed to represent all of Equestria in some nebulous sense rather than one city or town. Also, it may be kind of like in the episode where Starlight is messing with time, you know the part where Twilight goes back to try and get Rainbow Dash to race by challenging her herself. Foal Dash points out that she's an alicorn (implying of course that such a race would be unfair to her) and refuses. Perhaps the rules ban alicorns from competing in the spirit of fairness to the others. Definitely a poor episode, though. No getting around that.
one continuity error I seem to notice is Thunderlane's voice. previous episodes had his voice in a curtain voice that is soothing and the one we got recently is a rumbly, throw-out-your-throat kind of voice
4:40, it was shown during the games that, as a princess, she is sitting with the other rulers and she is lightly chided(by that, I mean a disapproving look from Celestia) when she cheers for the Ponyville team. This indicates she is ineligible to compete. Only point I disagree with.
If I’m being honest, I somewhat forgive any continuity errors in season 4. The first three seasons were written to be the only three, they weren’t expecting to make another, as of now, 6 seasons, so I can forgive them for that. I’d say the continuity issue about not having enough Pegasi is actually the fault of Hurricane Fluttershy. That episode makes it look like there are well over a hundred living in ponyville, but distant shots show that there aren’t anywhere near even a hundred buildings, not to mention that earth ponies and unicorns live there too. I’m not saying this episode is faultless, because that is certainly not the case (Spitfire), but I think we can give the writers a little more slack when it comes to continuity. They’ve gotten better at it in recent seasons, but this was back when they had to come up with an entire season that was originally not meant to happen. Most S4 episodes didn’t have that many problems, but I will say that the season does feel like it has the most errors in terms of past events.
This episode, to me, is especially disappointing because of how it compares to the rest of the rainbow connection arc. As much as I hate Spike at your Service (it being my least favorite episode of the entire show) I can't say that it was a disappointment because the only decent Spike episodeup to that point was Secret of my Excess. Rainbow Falls, on the other hand, falls flat on its face compared to the rest of the arc. For comparison, let's look at the other episodes from the arc: Made in Manehattan, probably my second least favorite episode of the arc but still decent. Leap of faith, another decent episode if a bit unrealistic when it comes to the portrayal of the moral. It ain't easy being Breezies, one of the better episodes of the season with great development for Fluttershy. Twilight's Kingdom, best finale in the show's history. Pinkie Pride, top five episode of all time! So yeah, this was a major disappointment to say the least.
I actually quite enjoy Rarity Takes Manehattan (Made in Manehattan is Season 5). Yeah, it's not exactly subtle with its reminders, but it was a glorious return to the spotlight for Rarity that reminded fans old and new alike why her character is so compelling. It presented us with a more down to earth villain in the form of Suri Polomare, and gave us a pretty good (if cliche and idealistic) moral about being generous even if others will take advantage of it. Leap of Faith is just bland and generic, it's the same old "Magic Feather" placebo plot we've seen a million times already and with a moral that gets downright preachy. Twilight's Kingdom is a strong finale, but like the rest of Season 4 it suffers a lot on the story level from "First Draft Syndrome", especially in regards to the uneven focus between Twilight and Discord until it decides it wants to be a Twilight episode, at which point Discord just get shoved to the side and his betrayal is never really touched upon afterward.
13:25 And atleast SpongeBob now-a-days goes out of it's way to Reference and Callback to previous episodes, This episode goes out of IT'S way to avoid continuity until the end so I guess the writers realized that this isn't Season 1 and reference the better episode that this one was Ripping off

this seems like it belongs on his other channel if the intro, the outro, and the fact he never appeared as s pony even once is any indication. But I chock it up to Josh just making that one mistake and he’ll fix it in his own time.
3:14 - OK, I'm just going to say this now: This is the greatest line in the entire review, especially with that delivery. Again, just thought I'd get that out of the way.
@@sarasamaletdin4574 But to even think about being loyal to another team would mean to immediatley betray the first. The moment she tried to be in the Wonderbolt team, she had already betrayed the Ponyville. This only would have worked if Dash wasn't already on a team and still had the option to choose.
You know what could have saved this episode? (could, not would-no guarantees) If at the end, when Rainbow Dash confronted Spitfire, all three Wonderbolts revealed that the whole plot to lure Rainbow Dash in was just a ruse. A test to see if she's truly loyal to her team. They could have used this as a way to see if she could truly qualify to be a Wonderbolt in the future. Soarin's accident, while being exactly that-an accident, could have been the catalyst that inspired this idea. Maybe Spitfire could have gotten the idea after it happened, and talked about it with him and the other chick. But nooooooo. That's not where they went with it at all. Seriously. Just 7 words could have changed the whole episode: "We were hoping you would say that."
I don't watch Razor Fist, so I actually can't tell where the parody ends and genuine critique begins. That said, totally agree on the continuity should be standard point.
Fun Speed Fact: Rainbow Dash top speed is Mach 10 or 7,600 mph, using the Sonic Rain Boom move. Sonic's Boost move (Unleashed, Colors, Generations, and Forces) top speed is 7,682 mph, over Mach 10. Not even his true Top Speed since he out runs lighting, going over Mach 287. His top speed is 200,000,000 mph shown to him out running a Black hole for 30 secs in Colors. Flash top Speed... do I even have to say more, a guy who save everyone from a falling Building, then use the public library and read everything about construction and runs to the country side to get the tools and fix the entire building, all before the cops would show up.
Being a former Airman, it can be painful watching the Wonderbolts. Almost every episode featuring them has them violating one of the Core Values of the Air Force.
Not to mention Twilight was a pain too. Some of the advice she gave upset me. Yeah this was the first of several instances when I started Rarity's taste and creative intelligence.
Not a bad Razorfist parody, but I would've cracked open the dictionary (maybe more use of the word "Copacetic") and used more film clips and stills to back up your points. I'd also say increase the rage-fueled swears, but I doubt you wanna censor yourself
Another plot hole this episode has just occurred to me. There are more Wonderbolts than just Soarin, Spitfire and Fleetfoot. So why in Tartarus didn't they just get another bolt to take Soarin's place instead of trying to sabotage another team by taking their best flier? That's not what the Wonderbolts are. This was literally done just to make them look like assholes and they needed to learn this lesson despite it literally being something they would've had to know before graduating from the academy themselves if Wonderbolts Academy was any indication. Okay. Considering all the other addressed continuity problems and this one, I am now starting to understand why so many people hate this episode
I so badly want us to have an episode where we just dick around completely independent of the main cast. For example, with no announcement, what if we spent some time with Soarin' for a day? Or Gilda? Hell, we don't even have to stick in the same time period - why not visit Grand Pear when he had moved to "Vanhoover", or even witness the Two Sisters' training under Star Swirl? Better yet! Why don't we just MAKE UP a character for one episode that we never have to see again? I'm so frustrated that we're not taking advantage of the supposedly vast land of Equestria. I feel like leaving the main cast a few times a season would've breathed a bit of life into the Seasons. But, I mean, I know we're too close to the end for it to matter. Still, it's fun thinking about hypotheticals.
We constantly are getting more and more characters of different types in the show, why there must be more? I don’t think of episode would not be a bad idea to focus on a random character but it’s not really needed. And the show is still about the Mane 6.
@@sarasamaletdin4574 To add more characters for the sake of being more would be the extreme. I would just like to explore when it comes to the cast, if you know what I mean. And as for that, the show has been running for eight years now. It's struggling more to fight monotony, and sticking solely to the main cast is part of the problem - as well as sticking to our NEW main cast. For the Student Six, it's even worse cos they're ALWAYS together. Wouldn't it be interesting to have a Gallus-only episode? Or any of them. And I'm not saying we should abandon the Mane Six altogether, but it would be more interesting to break away more often. It also serves a narrative purpose in making us care more about the general populous of Equestria, which gives threats to Equestria a lot more impact. It doesn't necessarily matter, but it would have had great potential to make the show more compelling, and there's no reason not to take a good opportunity when it's right there before you.
Three words: Main character elitists. The big problem is that unless the episode's plot has the non-main character protagonists (secretly) contribute to an overarching plot or a main character's growth, it's treated as filler trash. Combined with the huge number of side and supporting characters, what you get is a battle royale off-stage between characters for screentime worth 26 22-min episodes. Any attempt to set up the side characters as fellow heroes will have them labelled as spotlight-stealers at the main character's expense (See: Season Six finale). This line is known as the "protagonist black hole" and it is very hard to spot when you actually crossed it without realizing. One of these days, I think Season 9 should have the 200th episode's plot be about the Mane Six being drinking in the appeal of the being the main heroes when one day all the side characters quit or get fired for constant incompetence...then get overwhelmed from all the holes they have to fill. Throw in Twilight having to fill in for her other princesses for good measure. The moral should be that life isn't like a story where everyone else that isn't you is a faceless npc just for you to save or be your shilling squad.
I think the closest we have to a "successful" no-main episode is "The Break-Up Breakdown," which stars Big McIntosh and features none of the Mane Six, and they only got away with it because all the featured cast was fully established and fleshed out in previous episodes.
Leaf Storm [a.k.a Leaf-Razor] "Slice of Life" exists. "To Change a Changeling" was the first(As far as I'm aware) episode to not feature any of the main cast(Including Spike and the CMC) whatsoever in any form. I'd say that one was successful too. So we have "The Break-up Breakdown" "Slice of Life" and "To Change a Changeling" Do we have any other non-main character(Including the Student Six) focused episodes that I'm not thinking of?
4:45 Good question does Fluttershy tornado not exist better question does Boast Busters also not exist, In that episode we saw that Twilight Sparkle would not just use her powers to show off, and that's exactly what the equestrian games are, Showing Off.
It could have been worded better but i feel like when rainbow said one of the 4 teams to qualify it was because she thought that obviously the wonderbolts would place
Have you herd of the Skylanders series? If not, PLEASE try it! It was quite fun for me, and I hope you like it too! If you have herd of it, have you done any reviews of it or featuring it?
A better way to have done this episode to actually go with the theme of how the different rainbow connections were set as realizations of new elements of their core character traits would have been to present it as Rainbow Dash having difficulties I’m choosing between loyalty to her team for representing Ponyville and a scenario in which the wonder bolts are calling on her as a member of the wonder bolts reserves to fill-in for their team. If they had change things around to wear instead of the wonder bolts sidelining Soren for no real reason and instead had gone with the angle of saying because he is injured they need a substitute but no one else from Cloudsdale or from the wonder bolts has come with them so they don’t have a substitute on standby, they are for the only option they have would be Rainbow Dash who is a member of the wander bolts via the reserves and a former resident of Cloudsdale then things would be more interesting. This would turn the whole focus of the plot towards a dilemma of what does true loyalty mean when you have to pick between two teams of which you have sworn yourself to. Things would also have been improved if they had remembered continuity and had demonstrated that flutter shy is willing to put in the work but still has issues with the spotlight that she needs to overcome and have that be her hindrance. As for the other member of the team I would’ve actually not put bulk biceps in there but instead would have had someone like Derby or another Pegasus involved and I would’ve given a more detailed explanation for why no one else is around by saying that some of the haggis I had to stay behind to help manage the weather in Ponyville wow many of the others couldn’t participate because they were needed for other events or they were called on to represent other towns that they had family and who didn’t have pesticide of their own to represent them. On top of this they could have a line where the remaining haggis I couldn’t participate because they either weren’t interested in competing and only helped out in hurricane flutter shy because it was essential for weather production or that they have family that they have to take care of. In so doing they would have made a team that was fairly decent but desperately needed Rainbow Dash to win and would’ve Handley set things up to where there is no bad guy and no one is acting selfish or like a traitor but rather they are simply two teams that need Rainbow Dash in order to qualify and rainbow has to make a decision of who to compete for between representing the team from her hometown that is made up of her friends or fulfilling her duty as a reservist for the Wonderbolts. In fact what would’ve been a great thing to mention to is that the wonder folks were calling on rainbow because they just needed one person to act as a substitute for the qualification but they would be able to use Soren in the actual competition. This in turn makes it much more interesting and much more complicated of a choice and you could do a lot with it because yes rainbow doesn’t act as a substitute for the wonder bolts then they don’t have a third person with which to qualify but if she doesn’t participate with her friends then they may have a substitute to qualify but they don’t have enough skill to be able to actually meet the qualifications. Overall I can see that what this episode was trying to do was to explore what true loyalty means when you’re tied between two groups of which you are loyal to but because of the way they handle bit instead it turned into the most basic lesson of loyalty wearing you have to choose between what you want and what you can do to help your friends who need you

Back when the Wonderbolts were still known as the joint team EUP they were a functional military, perhaps for some time after that. After a millennium of no real threats until the Nightmare Moon incident and that which follows The wonderbolts, while retaining the official position of a military force, have degraded to little more than a glorified exhibition team and the royal guard are naught but over billed ushers.
Sad part is that I can point out similarities between the wonderbolts and my unit in the military. Although I wouldn't trade my military years for anything, I wish I had had a unit that wasn't as messed up as the wonderbolts.
I had heard once that this episode was not intended to be Rainbow Dash’s key episode. It was supposed to be the derring-do episode, but they figured the rainbow wouldn’t naturally just give up her book which would be the key so easily and if she didn’t do it just make her look like a jerk so they decided to make the key episode this one that could quite possibly have been slapped together kind of last-minute.

this seems like it belongs on his other channel if the intro, the outro, and the fact he never appeared as s pony even once is any indication.
But I chock it up to Josh just making that one mistake and he’ll fix it in his own time.
Well... At least Derpy came back.
To quote the great Cid the 7th, never meet your heroes because heroes are people and people are shit.
NOW WHERE'S MY *GODDAMN* TEA?!
3:14 - OK, I'm just going to say this now: This is the greatest line in the entire review, especially with that delivery. Again, just thought I'd get that out of the way.
I hope RazorFist sees this.
...and then gets curious about the show.
And marathons all eight seasons.
And hosts a panel at BronyCon '19.
THAT WOULD BE F***ING AWESOME! XD
Ooh boy, the stinker of s4 that not a lot of peeps liked than, chances are opinions haven't varied much
I'd still get the complete seasons nonetheless. 🤣 If only I don't have so much college stuff to pay on for graduation.
What review will you be doing for Christmas? The season 8 episode or the Best Gift Ever special?
I personally don't like this episode. It COMPLETELY tears apart rainbows character by making her disloyal. A personal pinkies pride to me.
The point of the episode is that she is torn apart trying to be loyal to two teams.
@@sarasamaletdin4574 But to even think about being loyal to another team would mean to immediatley betray the first. The moment she tried to be in the Wonderbolt team, she had already betrayed the Ponyville.
This only would have worked if Dash wasn't already on a team and still had the option to choose.
Actually my own take is that her loyalty was torn between her team, and her dream and love of the wonddrbolts.
Someone find Ari, Josh is going off the deep end again...
You know what could have saved this episode? (could, not would-no guarantees)
If at the end, when Rainbow Dash confronted Spitfire, all three Wonderbolts revealed that the whole plot to lure Rainbow Dash in was just a ruse.
Hey Josh, thanks for introducing me to the GLORY of senor Fist and his amazing snark. Celestia f@ing speed!
I don't watch Razor Fist, so I actually can't tell where the parody ends and genuine critique begins.
That said, totally agree on the continuity should be standard point.
It's pretty on point, if missing extra usage of quadrisyllabic and pentasyllabic verbiage and swearing to high Lemmy.
Josh is going ham, spiced ham, on this one. The dark, evil criticism cuts like a cerated knife. And I love it!!
Fun Speed Fact:
Rainbow Dash top speed is Mach 10 or 7,600 mph, using the Sonic Rain Boom move.
Flash top Speed... do I even have to say more, a guy who save everyone from a falling Building, then use the public library and read everything about construction and runs to the country side to get the tools and fix the entire building, all before the cops would show up.
this gave me a new drinking game, every time josh shouts, take a shot.
...i need a new liver.
I see that end credits art and I only imagine the horrors Ari's going to put Dash through. No doubt Cupcakes will look pleasing by comparison.
Alright I love your videos when reviewing mlp always gets me
My least favorite episode, Rainbow Falls... I got baited and I grabbed it, wow everything Josh said is my reaction when I first saw this episode
Being a former Airman, it can be painful watching the Wonderbolts. Almost every episode featuring them has them violating one of the Core Values of the Air Force.
With this, you have made one of my dreams come true!
Since you have reviewed Celestial Advice awoke back, will you do one for all bottled up?
OH MY GOD YOU USED KIRBY’S EPIC YARN FOR THE CREDITS THANK YOU
Really enjoyed the Razorfist look and style from ya, Josh. Keep up the good work!
Leaf Storm [a.k.a Leaf-Razor]
"Slice of Life" exists.
Take a shot whenever there's a plot hole pointed out and burned.
This feels like the wrong channel.
you reposted in the wrong channel
Listen to what he says at the beginning of the video.
Yeesh. What's the point of a disclaimer if nobody bloody pays attention to it?
imamoose007 he says he’s gonna upload mlp reviews on this channel now while he keeps his main one focused on video games
Don’t you already do My Little Pony review with the gimmick of Taking Things To Seriously?
This is my third favorite episode of season 4
Overall I can see that what this episode was trying to do was to explore what true loyalty means when you’re tied between two groups of which you are loyal to but because of the way they handle bit instead it turned into the most basic lesson of loyalty wearing you have to choose between what you want and what you can do to help your friends who need you
What makes this all worse is that this is supposed to be Dash's big epiphany episode to help set up the finale.
Love your new intro dude.
4:36 I always thought it was because Twilights a princess and wasn’t allowed to compete
I miss these kinds of reviews, can we get more of these please?
ThunderBeam707 there are many more on his main channel! We are just transitioning over all MLP related videos to this channel.
@@AramautheFierySecretary I'm aware I personally just find these kind of reviews more entertaining than the taking "said episode" too seriously series.
@@AramautheFierySecretary Btw this may be late but I wanna say congratulations on Josh's proposal to you, I hope two live a happy everlasting married life together.
I’m watching this 10 hours after the premiere.
Hey josh again can you at least please review mlp s8 e11 molt down?
uh... are you OK Josh...?
Do you need a Medic...? Or a life coach...? Or Aramau...?
there are some points I'd love to enforce here:
1. I guess Twilerpy couldn't be part or Ponyville's team because She's technically Royalty, I mean Shining Ham-On didn't participate and could at most be the Empire's Stage coach...
2. The precarious participation of Ponyville's Pegasi Population proves than ponies as athletes' ratio is at least 7 to 1, they might be good fliers, buth nowhere RD level... or she asked and they said no, either works
otter than that the review is on P.O.I.N.T.
While it may be true that the other Pegasi don’t have RD’s flying skill, neither does Bulk Biceps according to this episode.
Is it wrong that I still like spitfire?
Yeah that was probably the best way to review the ep
Yeah...why does Rainbow idolize these horrible ponies agai....OOOOH right because good for nothing flies are attracted to garbage. Pfft silly me. :P
XDDD I love you thespi.
I feel like the reason a fifth team qualified was a kind of wild card situation, or there was a tie between teams.
Josh...I’ve owned 4 goldfish. And ALL OF THEM had better attention spans than toddlers.
Will this just be an addition to the things on this channel or will it replace the "taking insert title here too seriously" videos?
Your going make us sit through a review of Rainbow Falls and not show a screen shot of best princess in her cheerleader outfit!
This is the episode I started with.
3:14 I don't blame you for not paying attention to the details of the prequels but it is Qui Gon Jinn who tests blood for midichlorians
I'm okay with everything except for the fact that this was a premier
It was funny seeing Josh give this episode Razorfist treatment although unlike Razorfist, Josh is actually likable..... Unless you're Lilly Peet or a hardcore Lilly Peet fan.
What's the ending song?
HU?! He already reviewed this episode! And it was an actual FOB review.
Quick point I want to make here. What if rainbow falls happens before wonderbolt academy and hurricane fluttershy in chronological order.
Is that a shots fired to the show or silver quill? Assuming show but it could honestly be either not a complaint more curiosity great review either way!
Will you be reviewing the season 8 finale? I’ve been really looking forward to it
3:35 You know it's season 1 because they list the speed as 7,6000 mph, not 76,000 mph.
Gotta say, for the first review on this channel the format felt kind of lacking. I sincerely hope you'll go back to the usual Firey Joker style for future reviews, seeing as you admitted yourself this episode isn't one with a lot of joke material.
I liked that you had guitar rarity for your rant alert😄
11:28 Gee I don't know Josh. You still like Doug Walker lol.
Why is there a tia flank in the background
He reminds me of 2 the ranting gryphon
3:17 you mean like that starwars joke?
Any way congrats on your wedding fire brand and I kinda agree with you on this one ( since I randomly watch the series with my nephews )
He should have said the cannon one not the other one
o shit, The Fiery Joker is here
lol
