Mikey, I’m making this blanket for the 2nd time for a double bed. I just read the comments and, although most are complimentary, I can’t believe some of the nasty ones! I just want you to know I think you’re a wonderful teacher and I’ve done a lot of your projects. The “nasties” deserve to be ignored.
I’ve made 3 blankets and a pillow using this pattern and I just came back over a year later for a 4th blanket refresher! I love your videos and the way you explain everything. Thanks for being a great guide the last few years! ❤ 2:12
I absolutely love this blanket !! It’s a bit tricky but your video helps so much! I’m just starting my twenty-first blanket with this pattern. I’ve made lots of gifts but also quite a few where my friends buy the yarn and do do the crocheting. I watch your video before I start each one. Thank you so much for clarifying all the tricks and steps! You are a great teacher.

Mikey, I made the Hibernation Blanket, but made it long enough for a man that is 6’4”. I love how it turned out, and so does my niece, who wants the same blanket, same colors, just wide enough, and long enough to cover a queen size bed. I am looking to making this blanket eventually for me.I LOVE how you teach! You assume that the crocheter has watched the videos to learn the basics, so your video is not boring to watch. What sets you apart above all other instructions, is that you explain the pattern, and break it down, so that the pattern makes sense. You make it so easy to learn. I watch you first, then I crochet with you, pausing when needed to catch up, and continue again. Within a very short time, I have memorized the pattern, and I sit back and enjoy creating a beautiful gift! When I search UA-cam for new ideas, I always look for you teaching what I want to learn. Thank you! Your passion and mastery of crocheting shows! Cindy
Wonderful pattern Mikey! I don’t know how I missed this one 7 years ago! Will definitely be making it. Thank you for the clear concise instruction! I call it the back bump, lol.😊
Thank you so much for your video. I love the way this blanket looks. My son (who is 8) came up to me as I was watching it, asked me if it was a boy teaching the video, and I said yes. I have tried to teach him that boys crochet too. He was so excited to see you on this video and told me that he will one day learn to crochet like me/you. You are absolutely amazing. Thank you again.
I am in love with this blanket!! I'm new to crocheting, so I couldn't keep up with this project. So, I saved it into my favorites and I plan to come back to it very soon. The thickness of this yarn is perfect for this blanket. I can almost feel how soft and snuggly it is. I've only watched this video once, though. I'm sure if I watch it a few more times, I'll be able to catch onto it and understand it better. I'd love to make this for my MIL for her birthday. She would absolutely love it!! Not to sound morbid, but I'm making blankets for everyone in my family so that they have something to remember me by. My grandmother did that, and I think it's a great way for family to hold onto someone they love for years to come. The one she made me was ruined in a flood. I was devasted. I'm going to be making the same blanket with the same pattern/colors when I have a minute, and it will still make me think of her every day. She's the only reason why I'm doing all this. She's inspired me. I know she'll be proud. Thanks so much for the video!! It's my favorite one, so far. 🦋🌻🐞
I am a beginner but I have done a few throws. I would have no problem if the project was one colour or striped but have no clue how to achieve the block effect. How do you make the chain? How do you change the colours? How do you calculate number of stitches to crochet the blocks? Please, I need help😟
I love this blanket too but this yarn costs so much 😭 Six balls of it was like $60+. Are you getting yours somewhere for cheaper than that? I love making this for people and so many have asked me to make it for them, but nobody even wants to pay as much as what the yarn costs.
I usually wait until Joann’s or michaels has but 2 get one free! Also AC Moore has comparable yarn (nicole stitch studio) that’s the same weight and same size ball that can go on sale for $5!
@@PDandV1928 ok, thank you so much for responding! That's a big help! I did see on Amazon today too there are a handful of colors that are two big balls for $8.49! So I ordered a few of those. Thanks again!
@@creationsmisfitI bought 4 balls of yarn for 5$ at Walmart idk if it's just my Walmart but they have a sale going on selling this exact brand of yarn for 1$ but if u go in-store it might be hard to find because I had 2 of the exact same balls of yarn, but at the register one was for 10$ and the other was for 1$ but hopefully if u go u might be able to find what your looking for at a cheaper price! Using this video I've already made 2 blankets with this stitch and am in the process of making me third! I love the yarn, love the stitch, and love how easy this is to make!
Watched the video and the pattern seemed easy enough so I got to crocheting and realized a few rows in that the material was starting to ruffle. I counted my stitches and somehow ended up with double what I had started with. Went back to square one and was easily able to figure out where I went wrong. Loved the video and the pattern, just be sure to watch and listen carefully
I love this pattern so much, I’m already crocheting a third afghan! Thank you Mikey for such wonderfully detailed and pleasant tutorials!!😊 you are my favorite to watch and listen to when it comes to learning a new crochet pattern/project.
I realize this is an older video, but it’s new to me. Just want to tell you what a great instructor you are, and thank you for making crocheting fun and not so scary. 🥰
I can't wait to make this!! I am a beginner crocheter and you make it so easy for me to follow along! I love the time you take to explain everything to us! Thank you so much!! Can't wait for more ♡♡!!!!!
Made a Rainbow Throw Blankie to this pattern for my grandaughter of 3yrs and she so loves it and this is my very first time at crocheting.. Thank you..you explain everything so well✌
Love the video, you are very good at training, you have a very nice voice. Could you post a picture of the blanket so we can see what it looks like? I will start crocheting today. Thanks for your post.
If anyone is still having issues with the pattern you change colors after you have 4 rows of the trfp, so after 8 rows. You change your color by working your last double crochet but don’t finish it. Leave two loops and then pull through the two with the new color and single crochet all the way and repeat rows 3-5. Then you repeat rows 2-5 3 more times and change color again the same way! Hope that helps anyone trying to make this blanket!
DemonlyAngelic any idea on how to obtain the checkered patten? I know how to swap colors but trying to get this checkered look and if we only switched colors it would be stripes. Thanks :)
Carrie Baugher instead of putting the same colour on top of each other you would put the opposite colour so say you have brown, white, brown, white you would then change it to white, brown, white, brown , hope this helps
I've already made 2 blankets from this pattern: one with the blanket yarn shown here and one with a smaller bulky weight variegated yarn. Each turned out beautiful. Starting on a third one for Christmas present. Thank you for this tutorial!
Thank you for the tutorial. I can read a pattern no problem but it is much easier to learn from visual. I can't wait to finish this afghan. This is the softest yarn I have ever felt.
Thank you for doing this tutorial, i Just bought all that i needed on line from Michaels i can’t wait till it comes in i will send you pics of how it turns out .. thanks again
Great patter!! I made 2 of these and the thing I love about crochet is that, no matter the pattern.. I can make something as long as I need it. My son is 6ft 2in. and I didn't want the blanket to be toooo short. I added length and love it when he come home form college and that blanket is in tow! LOVE~ LOVE~LOVE!!!!! highly recommended!!
Where did you get your yarn for it? I love this blanket but it's so expensive to make even at this size that Mikey does. Over $60 just for the yarn. Can only imagine you had to pay $80 or more?
Oooh I see now. I thought these were blocks and not stripes. I got really confused but I get it! All I need is a few more balls of yarn and my bf has his blanket!
Do you remember how many skeins it took you to make it that size?? Also would that be more similar to a King or Queen size?? It sounds very big and very amazing! Lol
@@stephaniesatterfield2460 did you figure out many balls of yarn you had to use? I’m making one now and only have 6 skeins I don’t think it’s going to be enough.
Thank you very much. You’ve inspired me to start crocheting again. My yarn and hooks are arriving tomorrow 😁😁. I’m so looking forward to getting started. Your instructions are so easy to follow.
Thank you so much!!! You really are a life saver! I really don't understand how to read the patterns and everything I've learned I've learned from someone else.
I made queensize comforter....it turned out beautiful..This stitch is great, fast, and stays nice n square...Some stitches are hard to count n keep square. Also most people haven't seen this pattern.
My first crochet project EVER!! I watched the video probably 15 times then started the project and paused Mikey as I was going row by row until I was comfortable. I have to crochet from you tube as I can't read a crochet pattern to save my life! . Question for those who have done this...I'd like to add a border but have no idea what would look good with this stitch. (Using the same colors as the picture). Any suggestions?
The pattern makes this blanket, so I personally would just add a row of sc, maybe 2 rows. I made the Hibernation Blanket m taught by Mikey also, and it used 3 colors. I used the middle color for the border. If Ii remember correctly, this uses 2 colors, I would use the darker color with a round of sc.
I couldn't read a crochet pattern either until I got the free pattern from one of my UA-cam personalities and looked at the pattern while the person was doing the tutorial. Eventually I got the hang of reading the pattern and now I do not have issues at all reading a pattern. Hope this helps :)
I love every video that you have made! And I have made many things from your tutorials. I am currently working on a regular granny afghan. But I was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to make a sweater for your dog. I have small dogs and often put them in sweaters during the winter. And my mother is a dog groomer and I believe sweaters would make an awesome gift for her clients. please let me know if this is something you could do. thank you so much for everything you've done!

Mikey you're so freakin AWESOME! The first time I tried this, it came out perfect! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this stitch! It's gorgeous! Thank you again Mikey!
Would like a more extended video of this. Such as how to figure block sizes and how you changed colors. The above link doesn't give a printed pattern, that I can see.
I just started this and as many times as i tried to do it, I could not get the right length with 67 chains to start. It would only be about 43" each time. I tried 2 different hooks thinking that I had picked up the wrong size somehow, but I ended up doing 83 to get the 54" width they said it would have. So glad you added the part about changing the size otherwise I would have had a twin blanket! lol Thank you!
I just started it the other day. haven't even changed colors yet. it'll probably take me a few weeks to get this done. I'll try to remember to let you know then.
I finally had some time to work on this. So I'm using the 300g balls of Bernat Blanket, and I'm switching as they run out instead of counting rows. One ball gives me about 9 inches of stitches and my blanket is 52 inches wide. I hope that helps you. I think it's maybe 5 repeating patterns, so the triple/double row and then the single row repeating 5 times per 300g ball. At least for me.
I'm so glad you wrote this on here. I couldn't get it nearly as long as they said even with a P hook! I chained 83 like you said and it was right exactly the size it was supposed to be. Now I just hope I have enough yarn since I have had to make it with more chains than they said.
I'm about 5'4" and even with the extra chains the 6 balls of yarn makes a really decent size blanket. I happened to have a 7th ball lying around so I added it, and it's really long. Each ball produced about 9 inches of stitches for me, so that's about a 54 inch long blanket. It's so cozy! hope yours turned out well
Looks easy enough. I'm a beginner and eager to attempt this pattern. I enjoy these VLOGS. Everything looks so easy! Thank you for the vids and keep up the great work! Much appreciated.
Do you do anything with the edges please? I ask as there seems to be loops where you make the chains. If there is something done to the sides, what would you suggest? Many thanks.😊
This video doesn't really explain this specific pattern? Is there a different video explains this exact pattern? I went out and bought the supplies too make this exact blanket and when watching this video it doesnt share how to create the squares of each colour etc. :/
thanks so much for this tutorial! it was so easy and worked up very quickly. I am very happy with the finished product! your tutorials are very easy to follow and straightforward.
Hi, this video is great, I know I can easily follow, but do you have one that's shows how to add the other color squares? I'm a visual learner and learning how to crotchet, thank you
They aren't actually squares but rows. If you download the pattern you will see 8 rows of each color. I know it looks like squares in the pic but if you look closer to the bottom of the blanket in the pic you will see that it is actually rows.
@@Barclaylindal aaaaahhhh see I thought it was squares too after a flat row of solid color but in now see how it’s not. I only have one color so I wasn’t going to do it anyway but the photo is very misleading
You have probably figured it out by now; but, here is the title of a video on UA-cam that shows how to change colors: How To Change Colors & Yarn Strands with Bernat Blanket | BEGINNER | The Crochet Crowd
Hi Mickey, I am New to crochet and was trying to follow along, but lost at Front row trouble. Do you have another wide maybe where you show this pattern slowly and maybe in an angle where ai can see the top of the needle, where it goes in? Love the blanket. I will keep trying, but so far no lunch with the pattern e. Thanks
I crochet tight but I love this pattern. It's hard for me to work with the big needles and make loose stitches any suggestions? Can I used a smaller weight yarn therefore a smaller sized needle?
Your video is excellent! If I had seen this when I first started, it would have saved me many frustrating missing loops and oddly shaped projects haha!
I’m having a hard time telling from the photo of the finished afghan but is it a checkered pattern or just striped? Also with the front post treble crochet do you insert your hook into the post or behind it?
I'm not the best at reading patterns since I am just picking up crocheting again and the multiple written repeats are a bit confusing to me. How many different colour blocks or stripes are in the finished product? Thanks!
Is that hook easier on the hand that a regular crochet hook? I would love to know, because the arthritis in my hands is keeping me from a hobby I dearly love. I hope one of you good people can answer this question please. I see projects like this, and want to make it so much! Thanks 😊😊
Comfort grips are better for that condition but I think it's really up to how you feel. If the hooks is bothering you, a different one may be in order.
The way it is photographed it does look like it is checkered. If you want to have a checkered blanket similar to this, I suggest this video ua-cam.com/video/eYYC3i5Gdkg/v-deo.html
FYI for anyone thinking this is a blanket with squares because to me that’s what I thought initially. It is not blocks but rather rows of stripes. It however is a beautiful pattern nonetheless.
Agree, I have asked for this photograph to be redone by Yarnspirations but the photographer never took a straight on picture to it to show it's in rows. Thanks for the reminder of perception.

Thank you 🙏🏻 it’s so easy and beautiful!!!
You’re welcome 😊
Looking great love the way you explain things
Thanks so much 😊 Super. I'm glad I can connect with you to show you more.
This was so easy to follow I love this stitch I don't use this type of yarn or under 5.00 hooks But this was fun and easy to learn
Mikey you're so freakin AWESOME! The first time I tried this, it came out perfect! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this stitch! It's gorgeous! Thank you again Mikey!
Making this for my son for Christmas 🎄 Ty ♥️
You’re welcome 😊
Mikey I love your videos! I learned how to crochet using your tutorials and you always explain things so well. Thank you so much :)
Would like a more extended video of this. Such as how to figure block sizes and how you changed colors. The above link doesn't give a printed pattern, that I can see.
All throughout the video I was trying to identify a reptile with a hump... Great tutorial video and very nice pattern. :)
A Dragon😁
You explained really good. Love it. Thank you 🙏
I just started this and as many times as i tried to do it, I could not get the right length with 67 chains to start. It would only be about 43" each time. I tried 2 different hooks thinking that I had picked up the wrong size somehow, but I ended up doing 83 to get the 54" width they said it would have. So glad you added the part about changing the size otherwise I would have had a twin blanket! lol Thank you!
How many rows of yarns did you use in total to finish the project?
It's so cozy! hope yours turned out well
Great video, easy to follow
Mikey how did you get so dang good at crocheting
I love the pattern
Thanks. It's nice an easy once you get the flow.
Looks easy enough. I'm a beginner and eager to attempt this pattern. I enjoy these VLOGS. Everything looks so easy! Thank you for the vids and keep up the great work! Much appreciated.
Hi
Thank you so much for your great video! I've been searching forever for the perfect pattern, and this is it! Love how its turning out already.
Thank heaven I found your tutorial! I was so hesitant to start because I never did Trfp before!! Thank you for ppsting!
I love this. Going to make it tonight. Thank you so much.
Nice teaching please can u tell us how we change colors in this pattern
You have probably figured it out by now; but, here is the title of a video on UA-cam that shows how to change colors:

Stunning Creation to make for yourself or someone special ✨️ 💖
Hi Mickey, I am New to crochet and was trying to follow along, but lost at Front row trouble. Do you have another wide maybe where you show this pattern slowly and maybe in an angle where ai can see the top of the needle, where it goes in? Love the blanket. I will keep trying, but so far no lunch with the pattern e. Thanks
I made this for my doctor; he and his patients love it!
awesome...clear tutorial - thank you....look forward to making this afghan
When you start the row of single crochet, does the first single crochet go in the same space as the chain one?
i want to do this in a size 7 yarn. would i use the same amount of balls of yarn?
I crochet tight but I love this pattern. It's hard for me to work with the big needles and make loose stitches any suggestions? Can I used a smaller weight yarn therefore a smaller sized needle?
Yes, you can change the size of the yarn and hook. It's an easy repeating pattern.
Your video is excellent! If I had seen this when I first started, it would have saved me many frustrating missing loops and oddly shaped projects haha!
Right!! I have several projects that are crooked or zig zag on the sides 😂
Hello my friend
Thank You Mikey !!!!! Beautiful pattern !!! You are a excellent teacher !!
I’m having a hard time telling from the photo of the finished afghan but is it a checkered pattern or just striped? Also with the front post treble crochet do you insert your hook into the post or behind it?
Quedó lindo nada más una observación sin mucha explicación es mejor gracias gracias mil
I'm not the best at reading patterns since I am just picking up crocheting again and the multiple written repeats are a bit confusing to me. How many different colour blocks or stripes are in the finished product? Thanks!
Question please with the 2 colors is taking the yarn like gingham or from several bobbins? Thank you
It's done in stripes. It appears to be gingham but it's not.
Boyfriend wants a blanket made with this yarn. I think I’m going to make this for him.
Le queda super bonito , te as ganado una seguidora.
Wow! I can't wait to try this !!!
Hey, love your videos but I thought this one was for the checkered blanket. I’m kinda confused here. 🤔😊
The way it is photographed it does look like it is checkered. If you want to have a checkered blanket similar to this, I suggest this video ua-cam.com/video/eYYC3i5Gdkg/v-deo.html
Love the pattern! Can't wait to give it a try!
Your an amazing teacher!!
Thanks Carrie! Means a lot that you appreciate my work! :D
Hi, how much yarn do i need to create the blanket for adult size?
Does anyone know if I can do a border on this pattern?
I do not have Bernat sold in my country. Is this a regular velvet yarn?
My favorite bernat blanket yarn is plum fields I love bernat yarn!!
Me encanta y no sería posible poner en subtítulos español?
FYI for anyone thinking this is a blanket with squares because to me that’s what I thought initially. It is not blocks but rather rows of stripes. It however is a beautiful pattern nonetheless.
Agree, I have asked for this photograph to be redone by Yarnspirations but the photographer never took a straight on picture to it to show it's in rows. Thanks for the reminder of perception.
This is awesome is it done in square to get the two colors
