That's more like the fire in the hole I remember from when I was a kid. You can actually tell what is going on without knowing the story before riding it. I love that they brought back the burning bridge in its glory!
FIRE IN THE HOLE! I’m a huge SDC nerd, and I’ve been following the progress of this ride ever since I noticed them building something behind Fireman’s Landing (I rode Firefall on every visit I took in order to take a peek back there and see what they were up to!). I’m so happy with how it turned out, and I feel that it does the old version plenty of justice! The audio system in the cars was a fantastic addition, the music playing throughout the whole ride makes it feel like a slapstick cartoon and I absolutely love it. It really adds a fun energy to the ride! I also like how they added more modern effects while also preserving that charming cheesiness that the old ride had. SDC did wonderfully in terms of preserving the nostalgia of the old ride, while also ensuring that it lasts for future generations to enjoy! Also, I have the honor of being cemented in this ride’s history, as my name is in it (watch out for the “volunteer recruits” sign, look behind you and to the right as you go through the office-like room immediately after you leave the station)! Makes the ride all the more special to me.
As someone who has ridden its smaller twin at Dollywood (Blazing Fury) frequently I was honestly surprised when I rode the original Fire in the Hole last year that the roof didn't collapse on it as well. Granted this new special effect looks WAY better too.

I got to ride it yesterday! It was great! The only thing was that it was not quite as scary just bc it was a lot smoother, but it was still really cool and spooky! There were better and worse things about it but I loved the fact that it didn’t change much, just a bit more senior/kid friendly lol

There is apparently a new rumor about silver dollar city building the new flooded mine in a section of the old "pumpkin plaza" where it connects to the grand exposition area. I think it would make sense because flooded mine has A LOT of wear and tear especially because of the water and the big factor of the shotguns and targets malfunctioning half of the time. I don't know if it's true but most likely it will happen in a few years or so but sounds exciting!
Just took the girlfriend there about a year ago and was really sad that over half the targets didn’t do the things like I remembered from when I was a kid. Parents told me they didn’t use to have targets on it back in the day, just the prisoners which I thought was interesting.

Knowing this is a cloned layout of Blazing Fury, I can see and quote all of the scenes from Blazing Fury from memory watching this. I can also see where there are aditional scenes and effects that Blazing Fury doesnt have. I would be delighted to see Herschend fully replicate this at Dollywood.
The visuals look great, but there is WAY too much cheesy dialogue. It feels like a high school theater workshop or something, lol. They need to cut about two-thirds of that and leave some quiet spaces. That's what made the original creepy. Remember that one point where it was just like, crickets chirping or something similar? We don't need to hear from every single person in the village... And I wish they'd kept the original audio for the "Red, get back in here and put on your pants!" It's such a nostalgia thing, it's just not the same without the original recording.

I think it was intentional, since the Baldknobbers themselves are kind of inherently scary with those masks on, especially to little kids. And with an out of control fire, the brief section that was pitch black (I hope they kept that feature, couldn't tell from the vid) and the fake-out scares like the train, I always found it pleasantly spooky as both a kid and an adult.
Looks pretty good but I like the old voices better for Red Flanders and “Fire in the hole” at the end is way off… it should be like they’re yelling from afar “fiiiiirrrrrrrrreeee innnn thheeee hhhoooole”. They need to change that because it’s the most important line in the ride.

Though they could keep the part where he says "Tower's gonna blow" and then put the old Fire In The Hole line like someone else is yelling it maybe. I doubt it'll happen though.
rode it opening day on saturday… after riding the original here and at dollywood i actually found the new one to be really fun. i think dollywood should do this as well (not if it also costs 30 million though lol)

Yeah, that seems pretty routine anymore. When the new river ride opened up the elevator was having a lot of technical issues. Newer electronics combined with pushing the boundaries of what's possible in a ride experience. 🙄

I was so surprised to be able to see the ceiling and walls of the warehouse red iron building they built this inside of. This really takes away from the ride in my opinion. They need to cover that up, darken it out, do something to make that not so visible. And that partition curtain like wall on the left of the track up there is kind of lacking too. Just seems odd they would do this on otherwise a pretty cool remake of the original ride .
Just as a preference, the voice actor playing the fire marshal isn't working for me. His lines are missing enthusiasm and actual excitement the original did effortlessly. Any other ride, and I wouldn't care. But Fire in the Hole is special

I knew it was just going to be an updated version of the old ride, but for 30 million I still expected a little more Also, if I'm not mistaken, the drops are even slower now than they used to be and with a newer smoother track, I'm pretty sure that means the thrill level is going to suffer even more
If the original Fire in Hole was 80s Michael Jackson this new one is the holographic image that went on tour after his death But I could be wrong. I mean I'll have to ride it for myself before passing any real judgment
Window dressing without any of the old charm Especially the voice overs. I was hoping for present day tech meets classic but alas it appears we only get the first part And while I know the ride has always been a "family" coaster I still think the thrill level could have been turned up a notch but instead they actually turned it down (slower top speed plus new smooth track)
The exact same ride!?!?!? Soooo lame. They should have just ripped up the old track and laid a new one... what a waste of money. They should have spent that money on a stand up coaster or a hanging coaster or something cool instead.
Okay if you want to complain about sdc trying to preserve there parks history instead of just becoming a thrill park just go to six flags or worlds of fun. Silver Dollar City’s a historical park and has continued to build up on preserving that history and the fact that they kept the ride instead of replacing it with something else truly shows that they are sticking with that.
It's good rmc I broadening their portfolio. Now maybe other parks will hire them to build other dark rides as well. A themed wild moose would be pretty cool. Or even a full on thrill coaster that's themed.
Also the reason they didn’t just replace the tracks is because the entire ride was falling apart. The technology was incredibly old and a lot of the audio wasn’t working. So it was much better to do a remake that would also allow them to expand the park for years to come.
Also fire in the hole was the very first fully enclosed roller coaster ever made. They did it before Disney started doing it. It's a historical ride that they wanted to save, but could only do so by rebuilding it due to the structural issues of the old building.

Didn’t like that you could see the service stairs at the last drop. The best part of the original is not knowing when and how deep the drops were.

The reason is, because Blazing Fury was closer to the way the original Fire in the Hole was. Fire in the Hole was before Blazing Fury

I don’t think the ride was ever intended to be creepy that’s just how people interpreted it.
As for the cheesy dialogue it doesn’t bother me too much because it just puts it on par with Blazing Fury at Dollywood.

I think the problem with that is that a lot of the old voice actors probably aren’t alive anymore considering the ride was built 50 years ago.
They still have the audio files that could be used. The Red Flanders audio is on the park’s channel.

I was so surprised to be able to see the ceiling and walls of the warehouse red iron building they built this inside of. This really takes away from the ride in my opinion. They need to cover that up, darken it out, do something to make that not so visible. And that partition curtain like wall on the left of the track up there is kind of lacking too. Just seems odd they would do this on otherwise a pretty cool remake of the original ride .
I think they are still tweaking it but I agree.

They haven’t had that scene like that for years. I heard people were upset so they changed it early 2000’s(I think. I was way younger.)

Just as a preference, the voice actor playing the fire marshal isn't working for me. His lines are missing enthusiasm and actual excitement the original did effortlessly. Any other ride, and I wouldn't care. But Fire in the Hole is special
As someone who does theater I completely agree. His delivery is flat. I'm not optimistic they'll change it though.

I'm an entertainer as well, key moments of any attraction/theatrical production live or die by the voice acting. Considering SDC announced there would be an on board narration and music throughout, I assume the audio will change by opening.
I like that it's based on an actual fire in the Ozark mountains but it's missing something.

I knew it was just going to be an updated version of the old ride, but for 30 million I still expected a little more
Also, if I'm not mistaken, the drops are even slower now than they used to be and with a newer smoother track, I'm pretty sure that means the thrill level is going to suffer even more

The exact same ride!?!?!? Soooo lame. They should have just ripped up the old track and laid a new one... what a waste of money. They should have spent that money on a stand up coaster or a hanging coaster or something cool instead.
Okay if you want to complain about sdc trying to preserve there parks history instead of just becoming a thrill park just go to six flags or worlds of fun. Silver Dollar City’s a historical park and has continued to build up on preserving that history and the fact that they kept the ride instead of replacing it with something else truly shows that they are sticking with that.
It's good rmc I broadening their portfolio. Now maybe other parks will hire them to build other dark rides as well. A themed wild moose would be pretty cool. Or even a full on thrill coaster that's themed.
Also the reason they didn’t just replace the tracks is because the entire ride was falling apart. The technology was incredibly old and a lot of the audio wasn’t working. So it was much better to do a remake that would also allow them to expand the park for years to come.
Also fire in the hole was the very first fully enclosed roller coaster ever made. They did it before Disney started doing it. It's a historical ride that they wanted to save, but could only do so by rebuilding it due to the structural issues of the old building.
