Before anybody dared to play Rock n' Roll, Bo Diddley was doing his thing, and doing it well. You just have to give the man full credit for inventing one of the most unique styles of music.
55yo white guy and my ALL TIME fav is Diddley. JLHooker, BB, Muddy, Howlin',Lil' Richard,Chuck, CCR, ZZ, Stones, Thorogood, and ACDC can all take a seat. Bo Diddley is playin'.
For all the youngsters view this is R&B, Rhyme and Blues. Not the modern R&B which us old timers called Soul. Bo inspired bands like The Rolling Stones. Go Bo Go!
Before I play my guitar for the day I play this song and 'Who do you Love', then kickaround my own thing into it - now I'm ready for the day, because everything I play from Rolling Stones to Frank Marino owes this man some credit.
In the late 70's BO visited New Zealand, believe it or not 200 people turned up for his show at the Bowl of Brooklands.I lined up with my mate Keith at 6am to make sure we had good seats.Greatest F.... show of all time.. Look back now and say how lucky were we.
The great innovator,Bo was the true Daddy of Rock&Roll......Before Elvis,Before Chuck Berry, brfore the Platters, before Little Richard, there was Bo,with his square guitar and his own beat.A true legend.
Happy Birthday Bo !!! Meeting you at the airport & getting to talk to you & getting your autograph & some cool swag from you will always be one of my fondest memories ... you even let me hold your guitar while we talked until you had to catch your plane ... such a gentleman ... so very cool ... rock on in heaven big daddy :)
There is NO way music will ever get better if the young artists of today do not start to study the incredible pioneers of rock n roll and R&B of the 1950s and 1960s like Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Elvis Pressley, James Brown and Carl Perkins etc... the young kids who are making up the music day have no clue where to go, because they have no idea how the "modern crap" that they turn out came to being. They are lost and need to turn to the roots of the modern pop music (which is the pioneer era of Rock N Roll and R&B) to understand where to go !
hi , I'm a 16 year old and love the old guys. beginning with buddy holly and chuck berry up until the 80's pop guys like eric clapton , phil collins , dire straits , etc. so there's still some hope left ;)
Right On!!!! When I was "on the air" I used to intro Bo's songs with this (screaming into the mic) Then there was the Day I heard Bo Diddley Play. my webpage themojoman.com
40 years ago, I saw this great artist at The Egress Club in Vancouver.. Fond memories.. We CLAPPED so much, we delayed the 2nd show an hour or so.. Encore and long playing ..
I love Bo's music. It was guys and gals like Bo Diddley, Little Richard and Chuck Berry that gave us rock n' roll. These guys were on the scene before Elvis. Nobody had a style like Bo Diddley. They copied him but nobody was as good as Bo!
WOW! There's some great music out there, but I wonder if anything I listen to now will stand the test of time like these old-school cats (Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Elvis, etc.)...?
@@ZOOTSUITBEATNICK1 Thank you Charlie Newman. Means I am not alone. Alone, that is how I feel a lot of times as far as taste of music goes. BTW: You got FB?

Great innovator on the rhythm guitar. He said about his style "I play drum licks on a guitar". But his typical rhythm is much older. Unknown Bluesman Hambone Willie Newbern recorded in the late 20's a similar rhythm. I made a tribute to Bo & his 1st band. It is a cartoon. I made the animation & played all instruments. Just 1 minute duration but I hope some people enjoy it when they find the time to watch it. Thanks & bye
I was at this gig! Chuck Berry didn't go on because they wouldn't let him headline the show, and had BB King at the top of the bill. Most of the audience didn't understand a single word of what was being said, it was hilarious! Dave Edmunds led the "house band", except in the case of James Brown who used his own band. Ray Charles was on the bill as well. Jerry Lee Lewis was insane, and he stole the show! Thank you so much for posting this
Bo came to play in my town in the Tarentum PA. Roller Rink in the mid 50's. ! of all places. The music could be heard 3 blks away. We danced and had a ball. Several car loads of us followed him to gigs night after night in small towns around Pittsburgh PA. (Our "mixed" group of friends made up of both whites & blacks ran into a problem at one AMERICAN LEGION HALL where our black friends were denied entry to the dancehall. We complained but the show went on...we all went home !

Gets an intro from James Brown, plugs in his guitar and turns the amp up to 11, lets rip - what a boss he was.
Inspiration. Don't get no bettah !
His go to eleven
Don't you just love it how he saunters on stage, fiddles with his guitar and amp, and gets straight into the groove.....
The Bo Diddley kick has 90% more blues in it that any other kick.

Look at that man, setting his own amp, plugging straight in. What a boss. No roadie sitting backstage with a pedal box waiting for cues.
every guitarist owes something to this guy.
I feel this is where true guitar riffs came from, like the start of it all

Bo Diddley. He was simply the greatest.
The old man saw him play one night in the 50's. He fell in love with his music. That was back when you saw like 7 acts for 5$
