This song became real for James again recently. He is divorced after so many years. It's such a great song

So James loves to write songs that can have multiple meanings. He writes songs usually about something specific in his life, but instead of being literal, he usually writes a story that’s a metaphor for what his specific issue or whatever it may be is, that can also be interpreted literally by the story, or take in another way. In this case, he wrote this about touring. They were touring so much, the “road” became their home. They left all their family and friends behind and were constantly roaming around the world playing in city after city. So James’ specific thing was about life on the road on a long huge tour, but he wrote the song metaphorically as a nomad just moving from place to place with no real goal and sleeping somewhere knew every night, having barely any material possessions because he’s never in one place long enough. That kinda thing. So one could interpret it literally by his story, or they could interpret it how James did on what it was actually about, or you could interpret it differently and maybe make it more about a mental journey rather than a physical one
This song actually became real for the band. The Black Album (Metallica was the actual title) was & I believe still is the biggest selling metal album of all time. And the band actually toured for over 3 straight years in support of the album. So for over 3 years they were constantly on the road
I feel like the dust in throat is a hint for those who dwell in the meanings arena ! I feel like the first verse is about his life and the second verse is about someone else’s life , whom he compares his too ! I’m not gonna get into specifics ! The funny thing is those who listen to this song wouldn’t understand it but those who wouldn’t listen can easily understand it !
