I have a somewhat similar problem but my preference is to replace the valve entirely with something else because there is some exterior damage to the handle. In your case, did you have to find the exact replacement valve or could you have picked out something else? In other words is the part that’s attached to the plumbing any kind of standard part that could accommodate other brands or did it originally mate with that valve when they soldered the back part in?
