  • Ekkkkk!!! This is the fun in beekeeping though! A good beekeeper learns from their mistakes. As ‪@bobbinnie9872‬ says... it is best to grow with your bees. So that's exactly what we are doing!!
Also.. I have started a new membership on the channel called the Hive Mind! I started this membership to give you a behind the scenes look at what it is truly like learning and growing with beekeeping as we expand our apiary. All proceeds go towards helping support our growth and buying more equipment. I am beyond thankful for how far we have come and it is all thanks to YOU for supporting my journey these last few years!

Queens initiate swarm procedures one month before they swarm. It takes a month for queens to slim, and workers to fill up with nectar. Unless you move the the queen to a new 10 frame, with 2 frames of brood, and the rest open frames and bees, you wont stop the swarming impulse. In hives that congested, you cant leave the queen in the original hive. They will swarm with or without building more cells. if she wants to swarm, she will and we cant stop it. this is why we hang 2 swarm traps at all yards.

The cappings begin very light in color but as they get older they get darker from the bees walking across them. So the lighter cappings are younger brood. The darker cappings are getting ready to emerge.

Even though this was a very long video, it was nice seeing someone just doing their thing in the beeyard uncut. This reminds me of how my inspections go. I go there with a very clear plan, then 5 different things pop up and the plan goes to pot. Before you know it I am doing something completely different, confused and wondering what I should do. I am really surprised that they don't pop him more when he puts the cell phone up to the frame for light.... they hate my cell phone.

Just noticing pretty lady that you never check the top cover for the queen when you pop the top. Is there a reason for that?

From my understanding the queen measures the cell with her forelegs and then can choose whether or not to pass the egg through her spermatheca . If she fertilizes the egg its female, and if she doesn’t it’s male.

I read somewhere that the size of the cell isn’t measured, but is only so big so that when she lays an egg, it engages her spermatheca & therefore fertilizes the egg. The bigger drone cells don’t have the same effect. I could be wrong though, bc I can’t find that info anymore. 🤷🏻‍♀️
