Very interesting video. What I appreciate most is that you used the adequate measurement equipment and you calibrated it. This assures a very neutral and objective comparison, with the subjective impressions (which are also relevant) as a backup. This is a result I can trust.
Thanks for doing this. This realy shws the actual noise level not the subjective, Bose is so much better. Its clearer voice but its not protecting your hearing any better than a good passive set it seems. Wonder if Zulu 3 is any better. Something like Clarity Aloft I would think would be difficult to rate in the way you are measuring it
Thank you for your comment. Yes, what the Bose is adding mostly is greater comfort than the passive over-ear set, although, subjectively, the Bose was better at filtering out the lower frequencies. Sadly, we did not have a pair of Zulu Mk3 to try, only a dilapidated Zulu Mk1 and it didn't seem fair to include an obsolescent model. I'd be very happy to test the current Zulu if the distributor would like to loan me a pair! Doing any comparative test between over-ear (or on-ear) and in-ear sets would, as you say, be very difficult indeed. Clarity do publish a full and impressive set of figures for noise reduction across a wide frequency range, however, at www.clarityaloft.com/pages/hearing-protection and I am looking forward to trying a pair at Aero Friedrichshafen 2022 (assuming the event goes ahead).
Thank you very much for your note. I'm happy that the video was helpful. Thanks, also, for your comment on the sound; I shall pay more attention to that. Yes, it would have been good to have included other headsets, but all test items have to be justifiable purchases for the business. We had to recycle our two pairs of first generation Zulus because of repeated electronic failures (three events) and because the 'soft touch' finish became sticky to the touch after a few years making them unpleasant to handle and not very nice to give to passengers. Also, I was never happy with the warbling sound from the ANR when turning my head; something I have never experienced with Bose. Our experience with those first generation Zulus rather put us off the make, but perhaps the latest ones are improved.
Hi, Nick. Yes, I agree it would be interesting. There was an add-on for a model of Sony headsets on show at Aero Friedrichshafen a few years ago so it would be good to compare those lower cost options with the established brands. All I need is to be sent some samples for review and I should love to do it!-Steve
@@pretavol (A second time without the links in case UA-cam doesn't like that) I know about four: - avee - nflightmic - uflymike - thecrystalmic Maybe one of them would send you a sample. *Alternatively* comparing just the ANR (as a passenger, then) would be interesting already
@@NicksStuff Thanks; I shall look them up and try to make contact.. Building up a catalogue of objective tests is something that I should like to do so thank you for your encouragement.
Thank you and if you'd like to send me a set then I should be delighted to compare it with the other over ear sets! The reason for including the PRO-X2 was to have a variety of designs in the comparison, and the PRO-X has a seductive combination of comfort, low weight and on-paper specification.

Very helpful and very much appreciated. Thanks. Including the LightSpeed Zulu3 would be good.
You could use a bit more audio volume on the video.

@@pretavol I just bought the Bose. Looks like I made the right decision. Thanks again for your help.
I'd be interesting in a comparison with consumer-grade ANR headsets (with the addition of an external boom mic)

Great review…we just need to get you a DC ONE-X to try….much more “apples to apples” with the Bose…

David Clark over ear 1x?
I'd be happy to test it if I was sent a unit for review.
