"This restaurant doesn't seem to have anywhere to sit down and eat" - In the UK, we have a special name for ''restaurants' that don't have anywhere to sit down and eat - We call them "SHOPS"!

Excellent Pies are Just around the corner nearer the High st. 50 yards away. Just where the Cobble Stones End for the Junction / Bend, Roundabout. These are The Pies i Prefer.
The shop is Just out of sight a 04:55 mins, just to the front of the white Van in the shot. Next to the Cafe with the Brown Wooden sign boards above.

English civil war 1640s, incidentally the Americans used a lot of legal stuff which came from the civil war and instrument of impeachment is very English. The English court used it to impeach Charles the First. This impeachment instrument is also used to impeach american presidents .American presidents have king like powers but on for four years. So you could say an American president is a king all but in name.

At 6:55 I think you had a bit of an epiphany. Although we welcome tourists (especially if they're like you guys), England wasn't built with tourists in mind. Whether it's Skipton Castle, the Tower of London, or the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, it's all real!

  • @moodswinggaming2972

Hi, im glad you enjoyed your visit. The reason that you find elaborate buildings in every town is because every town is potentially thousands of years old. :) and as time goes by, stuff just keeps getting older.

Welcome to da fam! Lol. Yeah, they're really great. They've become my favorite travel vloggers due to how they travel off the beaten path a lot, and do a lot of things most don't. After you've gone through the Japan videos, if your looking to do some long binging, 8 years ago or so they did a backpacking trip around the world. That was the start of them vlogging their travels. It was an 16 month or so trip, so not only is it a good amount of content, but it's a really interesting, neat watch. They put it in a nice, convenient playlist. Look for the one that says RTW (Round The World ) Trip :))

I emigrated from Skipton 16 years ago, so it was nice to catch up on the old place through this really enjoyable video.
I always think the "Celebrated Pork Pie Shop" is a prime example of good branding, because when I was a kid it was just a very ordinary butcher that happened to sell pork pies, as most butchers did. A lot of the small butchers in the town are long closed, but Stanforth's found its niche in pies.
Also, when I was a lad you couldn't really go into that chapel on the castle grounds, Well, you could, but it was basically where the gardeners and builders kept their tools and materials, so it looked more like a glorified barn/workshop. The castle as a whole has been spruced up quite a lot just in the last 40 years or so.

Apple sauce is a traditional condiment/accompaniment for roast pork, so it figures. Beef gets horse radish relish, lamb gets mint sauce, and pork gets apple sauce (plus gravy and roast potatoes and green beans and whatnot). I always think about how much work it must have been keeping castles running. That kitchen would have been running all day every day, because of how many people to feed and how long to bake and slow roast and everything else, and that in turn meant endless bringing in more firewood, and cleaning and polishing. And then there's the beds and the clothes and people getting sick however often and on and on, with everything having to be done by hand.

The apple and pork pie is exactly what I would want. Growing up with English and Welsh born grandparents I was raised that the alternating roast dinner for Sundays when it wasn't beef was always pork roast with apple sauce. So that pie would of definitely been one of my picks for sure.

I would recommend Manorbier Castle in Wales. You can book rooms and cottages. It's right on the beach its stunning. Also, Tamworth Castle in Staffordshire, small castle in the Heart of England, they don't do rooms to stay in but it's got so much history dating back to the origins of Mercia.

Pork is a fatty meat so we serve it with apple so the acidic sharpness cuts through the fatty flavour to provide balance. Pork and apple is very common in the UK.

I'm from Skipton I enjoyed this video thanks! I like a bit of history Thomas Cresap an pathfinder and pioneer in maryland, was from Skipton, the Cresap society donated a bronze plaque to the town. Cresap had involvement with Washington they were at war over territory, the Washington family funded a stained glass window in Selby a by with their coat of arms, you could also visit Washington old Hall in county Durham. And the dungeon isn't the original the original is too dangerous to let tourists view as it is drop style with no railings round, but the one you saw was used at some point to house prisoners.

Great video. Fun fact, in the middle ages there were over 4000 castles in England alone. That's 1 castle for every 1000 people. Most weren't this impressive though. I think to qualify as a castle, all it had to be was basically a tower with a fortified wall. Some were tiny.

Pork and apple is literally such a normal flavour in this part of Yorkshire, were you staying more towards Lancashire, or south craven? The bus routes don't tend to be too bad XD I have to use them daily so I know the ins and outs but for a tourist it might not be. It's kinda funny seeing someone explore my everyday setting and finding it so weird and unusual. Those cockrels you found aren't anger they're just frizzle cockrels and always look like that but malt so bad! BTW I love how you called Skipton a 'city', the only city around here is leeds or bradford. You missed out not going to bolton abbey, too good to miss out on would recommend.

Hannah Adams Roast pork & apple sauce is normal, I agree. Pork pie with apple stuffed inside is a Sacrilege!

I remember telling my American buddy about a local church built in “ 680” he thought I was talking about that ‘weird European 24 hour clock thing’ 🤯😂😂. These old places are real not built for tourism. I’d love you to research the history of canals in UK. Great vid again.

Pork is fatty, and the acidity of Apple's cuts through the fat of the pork ,that s why the two is eaten together, and pork pies are usually pinkish in colour ,these are dark ,coz they mince everything up including the snout and add it the mix

You guys did the right thing, pork pies are eaten cooled or cold (which enriches the flavour)

Pork pies are generally eaten cold. That's a shop, not a restaurant.

Gargrave! We have a video about Gargrave coming in a week or two.

Ah, righto! Thank you for letting me know. It's a nice place, Gargrave, though not quite the beauty that some of the other villages in the area are (as I'm sure you'll know after spending so long here). I went through there on the train earlier. =P

If I remember correctly from when I visited, the markings in the wall were to show who built it so they could get paid for their work.

Really enjoying your videos. It’s so great to see Skipton Castle getting featured; I live about 30mins from Skipton. Did you guys go to Malham? Definitely worth it, regardless of the weather just to see Malham Cove.

Kyde and Eric lol thank you; all the coolest people wear red hats. Ah what shame you didn’t get to Malham....or Grassington for that matter; have to save those two for another trip. You should certainly check out North Yorkshire; Helmsley (there’s good pie shop there), Pickering, Whitby (the Abbey was an inspiration for Carfax Abbey in Dracula) & Robin Hoods Bay.

Apples and Pork is a classic food pairing as others have said. There are a multitude of recipes and even gourmet sausages that feature it. I think the hot pies juicy effect must be similar to the Chinese soup dumplings, where cubes of cold jelled stock are mixed into the raw ground/minced meat and it melts during cooking into a flavorful juice/broth that is best eaten while hot. I got the weirdest optical illusion when you showed the inside of that "striking" church. At first it appeared to be an outiside view of a tower at night from below from a courtyard, but was really just an ornately carved wooden lantern (?) inside the chapel. Maybe it was just on my monitor. Anyway, thanks for sharing another cool adventure!

Another great video. ALL of those pies sounded So Good (except for one that had whichever meat it was and the mint). I would want to try almost every single one XD. And WOW, what a NEAT castle. And that church in Skipton and the chapel, what a cool little town =D
