The simple way to compare gear ratios is to divide the front teeth by the rear teeth and multiply by the wheel size. 33/17 x 29 = 56.3. An old school BMX was usually 44/16 x 20 = 55. The lower the number, the easier the gear is. My 27.5 PK Ripper is 39/17 x 27.5 = 63.1 which is incredibly hard to pull up. To compare properly you need to measure the real tyre diameters though as they are often an inch bigger or smaller than the wheel size suggests.
great video man, im 53 i got my first big ripper 2 months ago, i own 3 now and im trying to learn to wheelie. thanks for the info and keep making videos they are helpful for us older die hards. big rippers have changed my life and it has brought back my childhood first love.riding bikes.
I'm curious about your gear ratios. What were they when you were learning how to wheelie and did you change them at some point and what did you change them to if you did?
i haven’t ridden any sort of bmx for years now and i’ve recently found myself looking at and wanting a 29, only thing that’s been stopping me from taking the plunge is that fact i’m now 40 but after watching your video and you being a little older than myself you have made me think what the hell i’m going to go for it so thank you for giving me the confidence ❤️ happy riding mate 👌🏻
I'm 47. My 29" bike arrives tomorrow. Now I've been into the custom cruisers scene for a while and have built and rode lots of cool stretched out customs but haven't ridden a bmx bike in 29 years. I can't wait to hit the river and ride the same trails I did as a kid all them years back.

I will see about hoping dirt mounds and curbs and finally lean how to wheelie, as I tried many times on my Redline and got some progress, but did do a full turtle dive on my back once.......then I smoked a joint to help the pain. hahahah lets ride out vatos.........#stayupridelow
HolyMichigan, I just tried to wheelie with a SE Ripper with the 36T sprocket & 16T freewheel. It was difficult just to get front off 1 inch. Your video was the 1st about gear ratio. Thanks alot.
I'm 44 I just bought a Sunday High C 29er a couple weeks ago and I love it! I haven't been on a bike since I was 15 yrs old. This is great information bud. Learning to wheely👍🏽👍🏽 love these videos 💯🔥👍🏽
I have wondered the same things for a long time. This is a very nice video and I will review it more in the future I am sure. Thank you! 37 years old and I started learning on my SE 29” Black Ops Spec Ops Bike 1 month ago. So far: Can Pop up to standing on the ground. Very close to being able to riding forward in Wheelie position. I am 6’1 190 lbs.
Thanks for posting this! Just ordered my first Big Ripper and have also added a 17 tooth Box 2 Free wheel with a 33T SE Sprocket. Can't wait to get out there!
I’m 51 and been riding PK Rippers for 35 years… I LOVE watching these kids swerve while doing wheelies and combos. They are awesome and amazing. I love that they are having a great time out there riding with their friends. I do wish that they do it much more safely… as a parent. Anyway, this is progression. And it’s ok if you’re not into it, you do you and have fun while doing it. Stay Rad
I appreciate your time for making this video . I'm getting back in to bikes 47 just had a heart transplant 5 months ago and ready to put this new heart to use

Another old dude here, 51 going on 52 and looking at the Big Ripper. Back in the day I loved SE bikes....loved the quadrangle. I settled on a Diamondback to race. Loved finding this video!
Hey brother, I'm going to be uploading our family's bikelife content here. ua-cam.com/video/3B2JlpQ1QBk/v-deo.html New channel @OldBroBikelife on UA-cam. I loved DiamondBack back in the day.. 😁👍
Thanks for the video. I’m a 50 year old learning to ride a wheelie and needed this info. Looking forward to change the gearing on my Monster Quad. Ride on!
From So Cal, rode the hell out of my bike of choice back in the 80's 'Redline" I did it all on a bike. Now that I am 58 and have not been on a bike in years, watching these videos has been giving me the itch to get back on one. Not interested in wheelies ect ect ...although I did get on a friends 26' and rode a wheelie all the way down the street, I just want to cruise around and get that exercise.
I've had the same problems and thoughts! I'm fit and got a bike with 39x16 and I've been practicing for a week thinking what the hell is going on. I can wheelie it but its absurd. Adjusted seat, wheelbase, technique and its still hard af. So I've been searching trying to figure out what gearing to do with basically no results, thanks so much for the vid, gonna try some new gearing
Cool thanks, I'm 54 ex surfer skater . I was looking into these bikes to have something fun to do as I'm not content with hiking or walking here in utah with the retired guys.
Dude, ex surfer bmx guy here in Utah as well. I don't do the hiking thing. Just got the confirmation that Santa will be hooking the wife and I up with SE bikes. Where do you ride?

I'm old too. I appreciate the advice on the 33/20 combination. Both of my Sunday High C bikes have 27/13 combination. I could be twenty years younger, and never get close to doing a wheelie.
I have a Sunday also. I'm changing the gear ratio this week from 27/13 to 27/15. This lower ratio will make your Sunday as easy to wheelie as the old Schwinn Sting Rays. Mine feels like lead up front now like yours.
just like you getting tired of watching wheelie footage i got tired of you complaining about the new generation but i get what you mean and also good content
Just found this and so glad. I'm 58 with Parkinsons for the last 5 yrs. Last year had the deep brain stimulation surgery. Have ridden since bmx in 77 on a raleigh rampar with tuffs. Just before and 3 yrs into pd I still raced xc on mtb's. The 1 thing all of my neurologist agree on is to keep pedaling. It slows the progression. So I currently ride a turbo levo. But I've also always wanted to ride wheelies. So I've been researching. So which would you recommend? I have 2 8s on my mtb. In the video your saying the monster ripper would be the easiest to learn on? correct? Thanks for input, and great video!
Came to say that I’ve learned how to wheelie finally after workin on it for quite a while….and I watched this along the way and took your advice, you’re 💯 on the money with the 36/20 gearing. This vid really helped so thanks 🙏🏻
Interesting video.. started playing after a coupled vids of letting UA-cam run..algorithm... anyway.. now wheelies are on my bucket list.. ill try them on my mountain bike.. I dont dont have a big wheel bmx.. Im into klunkers and strandies.. which is what probably got me to your channel..
@@ProdigalSuns now I’m on my 2nd se bike picked up a fast ripper one week after I got the big ripper. Now I’m looking at a monster ripper the bike shop that had the fast ripper has. Love your content sir !! With my big ripper I changed the gearing day one at the bike shop to 33-17 and it pedals so much better for my hilly areas around my house. I’m wondering if the 39-20 on the monster ripper seems to feel same as 33-17 on the big ripper. What’s your thoughts ? Thank you 🙏
@@ProdigalSuns what size tires are on your monster ripper ? I didn’t know if you kept the same 2.80 width tire ? Also Which brand chainwheel did you use for the 36 tooth ? Thank you so much for your answers !!
33t in the front and 20t freewheel is money. Great for old folks to pop wheelies and not bad for cruising around on flat land. Upgraded to 20t from a 16t freewheel and it is way better. Thank you for this great video.
I always called the chainring style a 2 piece crank, separate sprocket, 3 piece crank. looks like nowadays you can actually turn a 3 piece into a 2 piece style which is cool because it makes changing ratios a little easier.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing I needed this currently riding a big ripper stock 36/16 and my knees are killing me after 30 minutes of practicing. I’m 35 5’11 250 plus and I’m able to get my bike up and a few pedal strokes in but I can’t maintain the wheelie thinking my legs are just weak or I need to adjust my balance point further back I don’t know still a rookie in this whole bikelife. I’m about 1 month and a half in with as yourself a skater background but I can’t take slams anymore. I can wheelie about 6/8 pedal strokes and I’ve been at the stage for about a month now and started thinking about the gear ratio and which could help me keep the wheelie and it could be a smoother ride in maintaining the wheelie. What do you recommend? A friend recommended 33/16 should be fine and compared it to his 37/17.
You good dude? I just became a part of the " victims of a hitnrun club" on monday 5 broken ribs and 2 scalp lacerations. Had no idea it sucked this hard. Good thing were skaters homies, our bodies are like van dammes shins&knuckles in Kickboxer. Hope you and yours are well. Be careful when driving around big city downtowns. That have a adapter you can use to size down. If you're a big guy I wouldn't use aluminum especially a lay back. I order from ebay no big brand names they cost me about $25 bucks. Hope that helps
I am 61 years old. As a kid in the late 70"s rode skate boards and BMX. In the 80's rode MotoX and Cross Country. Around 2004 got my first mountain bike. Now i am preparing for retirement and looking to move to the North Carolina coast and chill. I have a killer fat tire bike for the sand but think it would be cool to have a wheelie bike for the short trips around on the street. What would you recommend for me? I am 6 feet 4 inches tall. Thanks for the input and great videos.
I just scored my 15 year old his first SE bike and OMG 😳 I I got it out the car and sat on it 😬😱🥴 how in the world do y’all (boys and men) sit on those seats 😫😭😖
Great video man. I just got the 2021 Monster Quad and love it at 50. Couldn’t pull up until 45 minutes of trying. I got to 5 or 6 pedals and pulled my back, sciatica pain for four days. I’m better now and I’m going to go for the 36! I love everything about this Bike life movement, except for the maniacal swerving also. Thanks for the info and keep up the great videos! 🤙🏼
Just curious how you’re liking the monster ripper still? I’ve been considering one but saw some reviews about the cranks falling off so it’s been hindering my decision to get one. I have a couple GT 29ers but always wanted to try a big ripper or monster ripper.
@swphanth I love mine, I've got a new video coming out this weekend. My monster quad was missing a part on the cranks. I'll say something about that in the video. I highly recommend the monster ripper. Definitely hydrolic brakes.

I was thinking of these similar things about gearing and the way that other kids/teens + try to ride. I'm actually In my late 20's 5.9ft, and I just cruise around on my SE Monster Quad just to do some errands lol. Even If I have no idea how to wheelie or do tricks, It's always good to just take your time, enjoy nature and have some fun lol. Stay safe.
thanks from France, search for long time this kind of video. I'm a 43 years old guy starting to practice, and just get a Mafia Bike 29" coming with 12 teeth on the rear and 25 teeth on the front and it's really hard to get up. I can but it's hard to maintain due to a lack of resistance when pushing for rotation. So I will try your recipe.
Please help 🙏 I have a kick ass 29inch world tour and i dont really wanna wheelie as much as i wanna hall ass 😎 its stock 36 16 but getting new set up and wanna make some changes and very confused as wich freewheel tooth arrangement is best 🤔 thanks for your time good sir aswell as the channel 🙏
Love seeing oldheads still doing it. I’m 44 and have a PK 27.5. Been riding bmx since the 80s. I ride daily and my wheelies are stinky af. You’re exactly right 1 tooth in the rear is equal to 3 on the front. I went up one tooth on the rear and I love it but I think it slowed the bike too much loss of inertia and speed so my wheelies are not as far and as fast as stock. Imo one tooth down on the front would have been better. Stock on the Pk is 39x17
Thank you for the comment. Also great info for the guys on 27.5s. We just filmed a wheelie update video 5mins ago. Thanks again bro👍 Ps, I tried jumping off a 3 to 4 ft ledge... 😉
Fam respectfully NOBODY has the right to put dirt on ANY kid who is doing tricks that YOU HAVE NEVER attempted. Like I’ve been in this culture since 2014 rode 16” bikes to 32” and all tire thicknesses these kids have a crazy ass talent. I’m 20 years old and I stopped doing the complex combos the younger generation currently does back in 2016 aka the golden year for Bikelife with all so respect theirs HELLA things to learn about this culture but the way you approached that in the beginning is so wrong. Style? Steezy is just like me we don’t do crazy ass combos, bs ballout is probably the person who INVENTED having style while doing tricks the way he moves is just different, Dblocks for one I don’t like him for what he did to my youngboul Rozaati a few years back he doesn’t do combos the man is just an icon of Bikelife I will give credit where it’s do but dblocks don’t do what we do and that’s fine because he got his own swag nobody I know from philly would be able to stand it with dblocks in New York traffic but dblocks wouldn’t be able to battle nobody cause he don’t do tricks. Everybody’s different man embrace it that’s what Bikelife is for. And the swerving is something mutual that we all agree swerving anything moving or alive is not cool period point blank. The swerving isn’t as bad today as it was in 2015-2018. Just embrace the culture is all I’m saying bro these kids gonna be stars one day and this will be a globally recognized sport 💯 doing a combo fast or slow DOES NOT matter it’s about the complexity of the footwork NOT the cleanliness of the string of tricks plenty of people have gone viral I’ve been on work Worldstar multiple times and my swerve compilation from 2016 went viral because people was swerving buses and all types of stuff
if they’re becoming stars that also means they’re becoming role models and if it does become a sport or showcase cleanliness of moves would become a factor…no one’s above criticism
@@TwntyUp You're above the criticism when you've never attempted to do the tricks or even can pull a string of combos yourself! This mf clearly never tried a single string of tricks that these kids have done and that's a fact! what you're saying basically means I could be a tattoo artist judge or a bmx judge in a comp or a MMA judge in a tourny or an olympics judge when I know I have never attempted any of those things I may have gotten tattoos that doesn't give me right to judge a competition when I have no clue what to look for he cant judge combos or style when he has none of his own and isn't even close to it dude will fuck around and break his hip trynna lean back and touch the ground. Can't judge something you cant do. I Could understand if he was a wheelie dude who was out and about doing combos but he's not thats like one person out of the millions with tattoos saying that artist work sucks. Can't even take your "criticism" seriously and it was far from criticism it was blatant bashing
@@TwntyUp regardless if you believe that to be constructive criticism your insane look at my channel and better yet my IG i've seen first hand these tricks being made and performed and I work with bike companies looking to get kid's talents showcased or get their bikes tested. I don't even need to argue with somebody that has no clue what we do. Furthermore the entire west coast oldheads only care about regular plain ass wheelies and who has the coolest looking bike everythings a competition to the west coast. Come to Philly or NY and see how we get down that blocks shit been dead since 2016
You said the 33/17 and the 39/20 were good. Not surprising. Both are almost identical (56.29 + 56.59). Anyway, great video. Thanks for letting us know the gearing. I'm switching my factory gear setting on my Sunday High C from 60.23 to 52.20 gear inches later this week. By the way, the early Schwinn Sting Rays were 52 gear inches. Thinking back...now I know why they were so easy to wheelie.
I noticed you have laid back seat posts on both bikes which I believe arent stock, Im trying to learn wheelies and feel like it would be easier if my seat were back further which would put my body weight back further, is that something you found helped you get the front wheel up easier?
Beginner here want to just pop wheelies as easy as possible with minimal learning curve. I'm 6 foot 205 what setup should I run big dog. Thanks I liked the vid
Definitely monster quad or monster ripper. 29inch 2.8 inch wide tires and disk brakes. Trust me don't get anything else.. disk brakes can save you. Don't get a big ripper. . Learn the wheelie first
Go to Ebay and search 27.2 lay back seatpost. Don't get the one with a support brace it's too far back. I've bought several.. one tome I think it was called Alta. You'll find them on ebay. My new bikelife content is on @oldbrobikelife if you are interested. 👍
I just picked up a stock fast ripper, I’m 47 years old and want to relearn how to do wheelies , should I be concerned about changing the gears on my bike? Be easy I’m a noob
u could talk about bike life now all u want but at the end of the day like u said watching videos of us youngins doing combos and swerves is what got u into wheelies
regardless still a great video i do partially see where ur coming from when it come to swerves but not combos, any way still a great video which helped me out a lot
That's actually not true.. slow the combos down and make it look good. You'll go more viral if you do. If you do them fast just try not to be sloppy. One foot on the seat doing a manual down hill.. that I'd like to do👍
Swerving is f,ed up to do people. I have no respect for anyone who does that. Be a role model and go farther in the mainstream. 👍 Post your link so I can see your stunts. I'll follow you
Bro, 41 here trying to learn but it's making my lower back sore even if I focus on using my pedals and using right gear ratio.any tips to save back while learning?
Thanks! Also you stay seated when poppin up? Ive been leaning forward over the handle bars then swinging straight back while pedal then sitting down, maybe why my back hurts.ps I agree with you 100 about steeezy, his vids get me the most amped to go out and learn
This was very helpful. I'm 54 and I think I'm going to order the Mike Buff Fast Ripper. I don't have health insurance... I can't be out wheelieing when I'm jacked on the sauce!
Hi Sir, i have a stock monster ripper like yours and was wondering if i change the chainring to a one that makes it easier for me to actually get front wheel up ( im really struggling) do i have to remove links from chain ? Thanks in advance and great video thanks.
@@Mtzbros0609 the swerving people and cars is pretty disrespectful.. doing wheelies and combos is risky and you guys choose the risk. The people you're swerving aren't choosing to possibly get hurt or even just scared on the streets. Tell me you at least understand what I'm saying.
Do you use those seat posts to get your weight further over the rear axle to give yourself more leg room to stretch or for both reasons? I just bought a Sunday High C and ordered that same seat post for the reasons I mentioned above. I'm 6'2/ 167lbs.

I have 3 big rippers, a red one , white, one and of course a blue one.....so you said 36/20.....is that a 1/4" or 1/8" on the freewheel , also where did you find the lean back seat post's at....
Can you please include a link, I had the exact same question. I am about to order my high polish blue fast ripper. I am 6.4" tall, do you think I'd benefit from a seat post like that? @@ProdigalSuns
when you do fast combos, you do it for the way it Feels, its like breakdance freestyle, Sure it might be better looking to do it slow but that adrenaline you get when you do it fast is a reward for you you dont do that for others to see
@@ProdigalSuns look you are right, its not good when its not done correctly. Like swerveing is good when you do it on a cone or a non moving obstacle. This trick can save your life in some situations that you are in a wheelie and you have to dodge. Also that goes for combos or even normal wheelies if you are in the midle of the road and you dont match other vehicles speed you gata go on the side but if you do it at a place that you don't bother anyone or at a road that is either empty or has 30kmh limit thane yeah everything is cool as long as you enjoy it
Where i live is pretty flat. I love not having gears my wide feels the same. She said she would never ride a bike without gears but she likes this more. Are you wanting to learn wheelies? Thank you for the video.. gave your channels a follow. I am looking to purchase my first SE bike.. torn between the Big Ripper or Monster Ripper. I heard what you said about the wider tires. I am torn between the 2 bikes. I am 6'2 220 pounds, very athletic.. any advice?
@@ProdigalSuns Thanks for the reply :) Didn't know about that difference between the two. I was about to pull the trigger on the Big Woody since its on sale for $599
If you don't really care about wheelie to much and wanting every advantage. Then get the ripper. I like mine and if it was about wheelies I day get the monsters. Easier and safer
Excellent Content. I am looking at getting my first SE Bike for wheelies. Question: Would it make sense to get a FAST RIPPER - 10 speed so I can optimize through the wheelie learning curve? I have heard that the FAST RIPPER is the easiest to wheelie. Everyone who has one says the front end comes up easily. What do you think?
It would help as far as the right gear.. yes Tire size and width is a huge cheat code to though. I can barely wheelie a 29 ×2" wide tire.. If I get on a beastmode with a 27.5 x 3" tire... or a 29" x 2.8" monster quad, monster ripper I can wheelie 100 yards with ease. If you want to talk send me a message with your number. Thanks for the comment
I agree with you, which combo are the easiest for me to learn first? Is like to wheelie with one hand. Is that consider a combo maybe take my feet off the pedals?
Where did you find your chainring I’ve been going crazy trying to find a good one I have the dub ripper with the 39 tooth and I wanna bring it down some too thank you I appreciate it
Very similar age to you. I use a 36 front 20 rear and the classic old school lay back seat post. For me that's perfection on a 29 inch Big Ripper. With the standard gearing I could barely get the front wheel off the ground. I can now pull wheelies almost for ever. Only thing that stops me is holes in the ground, speed bumps, big hills or tight corners. Just got a Haro 26" and trying to dial in the gearing on that. 36/20 works ok for wheelies but is way to low for anything else. My legs are spinning like a washing machine on rinse cycle.
Thanks for the video, I was leaning toward a Monster Quad or Monster Ripper, I think I will try a Monster Ripper. Mastering Wheelies is on my 53 yo agenda
I just put on a layback with a support.. it sat me way to far back but it was very easy to pull up..farther back than I would want to sit though. Yes I think it does factor in.
hey man, great video. Quick question. Do you find that your caliper comes out of alignment a lot on your disk break bike? I find that after a ride almost every time I've got to re adjust my shit again. Kinda sucks and its making me miss my V-break bike
Good video man, looking to get a Big Ripper or Monster Ripper which one do you like better etc.? Still the Monster? I’m a 45yr old 6’ 4” 210lb Have you checked out a Fast Ripper? Not sure if I want gears?
The simple way to compare gear ratios is to divide the front teeth by the rear teeth and multiply by the wheel size. 33/17 x 29 = 56.3. An old school BMX was usually 44/16 x 20 = 55. The lower the number, the easier the gear is. My 27.5 PK Ripper is 39/17 x 27.5 = 63.1 which is incredibly hard to pull up. To compare properly you need to measure the real tyre diameters though as they are often an inch bigger or smaller than the wheel size suggests.
Awesome tip thank you

HolyMichigan, I just tried to wheelie with a SE Ripper with the 36T sprocket & 16T freewheel. It was difficult just to get front off 1 inch. Your video was the 1st about gear ratio. Thanks alot.
That is awesome! Thank you

I have wondered the same things for a long time. This is a very nice video and I will review it more in the future I am sure. Thank you!

Stay Rad
Right on!
I appreciate your time for making this video . I'm getting back in to bikes 47 just had a heart transplant 5 months ago and ready to put this new heart to use

Haha I ran across your channel by chance. I came across this episode, as soon as I started watching it, I was like holy crap, I known that dude! 😂
Haha, no way. So cool👍
Are you looking at a Big BMX bike?
Another old dude here, 51 going on 52 and looking at the Big Ripper. Back in the day I loved SE bikes....loved the quadrangle. I settled on a Diamondback to race. Loved finding this video!
Hey brother, I'm going to be uploading our family's bikelife content here. ua-cam.com/video/3B2JlpQ1QBk/v-deo.html

Thanks for the video. I’m a 50 year old learning to ride a wheelie and needed this info. Looking forward to change the gearing on my Monster Quad. Ride on!
Good luck buddy.. 👍
Awesome Brother. Agreeing and had that same experience. Thanks for sharing. I have the Redline SQB-26 and still learning wheelies
My whole family ride 8 Mike everyday after work. All BMX bikes.. so much fun
So much fun bro..

@@mikecrook8434 Thank you for this information. Hope all goes well with your gearing swap. I will look to do the same with mine.
just like you getting tired of watching wheelie footage i got tired of you complaining about the new generation but i get what you mean and also good content

Thanks so much, congrats on the wheelies 👏
Interesting video.. started playing after a coupled vids of letting UA-cam run..algorithm... anyway.. now wheelies are on my bucket list.. ill try them on my mountain bike.. I dont dont have a big wheel bmx.. Im into klunkers and strandies.. which is what probably got me to your channel..
Awesome, thanks for the comment👍
I’m 51 yrs old as well. great info sir. On my way tomorrow to pick up my big ripper classic black and gold.
Congrats 👏
@@ProdigalSuns now I’m on my 2nd se bike picked up a fast ripper one week after I got the big ripper. Now I’m looking at a monster ripper the bike shop that had the fast ripper has. Love your content sir !! With my big ripper I changed the gearing day one at the bike shop to 33-17 and it pedals so much better for my hilly areas around my house. I’m wondering if the 39-20 on the monster ripper seems to feel same as 33-17 on the big ripper. What’s your thoughts ? Thank you 🙏
@@johnnydavis8489 awesome I got stoked reading this.. I would go to a 36t ring on that monster.. You'll like that for wheelies and hills better👍
@@ProdigalSuns what size tires are on your monster ripper ? I didn’t know if you kept the same 2.80 width tire ? Also Which brand chainwheel did you use for the 36 tooth ? Thank you so much for your answers !!
@@johnnydavis8489 chainring is a Decas 36t and I went with the all black 2.8 vee tire.. I love those tires.

Haha, if I could I wouldn't do it unless I could do it with style.. lol
33t in the front and 20t freewheel is money. Great for old folks to pop wheelies and not bad for cruising around on flat land. Upgraded to 20t from a 16t freewheel and it is way better. Thank you for this great video.
Thank you
What yall recommend to switching the front sprocket to on a 26" pulling up on the stock gearing is stupid hard...
Bro, thank you for this video. I’m in my mid-40s finally setting my bike up to practice my wheelies. Then transition that into my super Moto
Yeah, I love super moto bike🤙 Thank you
I am 61 years old.
Definitely the monster ripper or monster quad. Hey a steel laid back post. Order 2- $20 in ebay.
I'm almost 47 5'11"about 200 lbs, I opted for the big flyer can't wheelie the damn thing yet but you have inspired me. Now just trying to figure out what mods to make not really feeling the big honkers but I'm glad I found your videos👍👍
Big honkers, you mean the handle bars.?
@@ProdigalSuns yeah the big honkin bars the bike came with, gonna feel out some taller bars👍
Lay back seat post, 7 in bars and maybe adjust the seat post higher, and lower your tire pressure in the 20's?

I was thinking of these similar things about gearing and the way that other kids/teens + try to ride. I'm actually In my late 20's 5.9ft, and I just cruise around on my SE Monster Quad just to do some errands lol. Even If I have no idea how to wheelie or do tricks, It's always good to just take your time, enjoy nature and have some fun lol. Stay safe.
Have you started doing wheelies yet?
thanks from France, search for long time this kind of video.

Thanks again bro👍
Ps, I tried jumping off a 3 to 4 ft ledge... 😉
You think 10/30 would work good for my 27.5?
@@rmjuarez87 I have no idea. After getting use to it adding one tooth to the rear sprocket is perfect
Fantastic comment thanks for some of the back story
if they’re becoming stars that also means they’re becoming role models and if it does become a sport or showcase cleanliness of moves would become a factor…no one’s above criticism
Come to Philly or NY and see how we get down that blocks shit been dead since 2016
@@ProdigalSuns happy to see your video quality improved by the way the difference is noticeable

Definitely monster quad or monster ripper. 29inch 2.8 inch wide tires and disk brakes. Trust me don't get anything else.. disk brakes can save you. Don't get a big ripper. . Learn the wheelie first
I feel you on this, the swerving and combos is embarrassing

Do you use those seat posts to get your weight further over the rear axle to give yourself more leg room to stretch or for both reasons? I just bought a Sunday High C and ordered that same seat post for the reasons I mentioned above. I'm 6'2/ 167lbs.

What seat posts are you running on your bikes?
I get then from ebay, just search 27.2 lay back seat post.. I don't think it's ever been a recognizable brand name.
Do you think it would be easier to wheelie on a fast Ripper since it has gears?
Yes, probably.. fat tires aired down though.. can you fit the 2.8 vee tires on this bike. That would be the easiest IMO
I have 3 big rippers, a red one , white, one and of course a blue one.....so you said 36/20.....is that a 1/4" or 1/8" on the freewheel , also where did you find the lean back seat post's at....
1/8 or 3/32 will work. You can find the post on Google.

I am about to order my high polish blue fast ripper. I am 6.4" tall, do you think I'd benefit from a seat post like that?
@@ProdigalSuns
when you do fast combos, you do it for the way it Feels, its like breakdance freestyle, Sure it might be better looking to do it slow but that adrenaline you get when you do it fast is a reward for you you dont do that for others to see
Well as the true stars rise we'll see it get slowed down with STYLE👍
I don't flow the scene much at all.. typical old head you know 😁👍
@@ProdigalSuns look you are right, its not good when its not done correctly.

@@ProdigalSuns already know how to wheelie and all just don’t know the specs to search OR what website to buy a bigger cassette or smaller chainring
@@ProdigalSuns can you give me link on the chainring to make it a 36 ? 🙏
Needed this thanks brotha
Thank you, I'm glad it helped you 👍
Thank you for the video.. gave your channels a follow.
I am looking to purchase my first SE bike.. torn between the Big Ripper or Monster Ripper.
I heard what you said about the wider tires. I am torn between the 2 bikes. I am 6'2 220 pounds, very athletic.. any advice?
Monster ripper or monster quad for sure. Disk brakes is a game change. The levee adjustment is worth so much
@@ProdigalSuns Thanks for the reply :) Didn't know about that difference between the two. I was about to pull the trigger on the Big Woody since its on sale for $599
If you don't really care about wheelie to much and wanting every advantage. Then get the ripper. I like mine and if it was about wheelies I day get the monsters. Easier and safer
That is a great price
@@ProdigalSuns I do want wheelies so I am guessing the hydraulic break is worth it?
Excellent Content. I am looking at getting my first SE Bike for wheelies. Question: Would it make sense to get a FAST RIPPER - 10 speed so I can optimize through the wheelie learning curve? I have heard that the FAST RIPPER is the easiest to wheelie. Everyone who has one says the front end comes up easily. What do you think?
Hey great question, email me your number if you serious and ready to make a choice.. there are several things to consider prodigalsuns@outlook.com
It would help as far as the right gear.. yes
Tire size and width is a huge cheat code to though.
Combos are better than just riding around and jumping 🤷♂️💀
I agree with you, which combo are the easiest for me to learn first? Is like to wheelie with one hand. Is that consider a combo maybe take my feet off the pedals?
@@ProdigalSuns one hands don't count as a combo but the first combo you should learn is knee knock
Cool it may be a while.. I'll look up knee knock and see what I'm dealing with. Lol
My wheelies are still far from anything like that. 👍
Where did you find your chainring I’ve been going crazy trying to find a good one I have the dub ripper with the 39 tooth and I wanna bring it down some too thank you I appreciate it
Never seen a follow video of how a 33t 18 went? Just got my first big ripper. N feels heavy to get up. Also ain’t been on a bike in 15 years lol
Did you have to cut the chain or swap out for a longer chains with freewheel swaps?
Not everytime, but I'd keep a extra chain just in case👍
SIKK wheelie at the end dude! 🤙🏼
Thank you, if you want to follow our new bike like channel he's a link. I hope you'll check it out.

Just followed. I’m a 53 year old dude looking to buy an SE.
So how did you end up liking the 33/18 ? I am currently running 33/16 but stuck weather to go to 17 or 18
I think it's better if you're still learning..
My son needed my 18t so I've been using 17.. I want to order a new 18.
I ride a laid back post too. I think that makes it easier also. 🤔 if you're not you might definitely want 18.
How did you like the 18t just bought a big ripper want to get new freewheel and sprocket great video.
They refunded my money as they were out of stock. Probably would be good though if you're learning
Do you prefer 33/18 or 36/18 on a big ripper?
33x 18 or 33x17... 18 if your learning
Can you send me the link for 36t chainring I would appreciate it thank you

This is the one I have..
Wait what bike do you have?
@@ProdigalSuns dub ripper edition it has the chainring like your monster ripper
What seat post is that and why?
It's way easier on my knees.
@@ProdigalSuns where did you purchase ? I just got a big ripper
Nice, I'm uploading more bike content on a new channel

Thanks for the video, I was leaning toward a Monster Quad or Monster Ripper, I think I will try a Monster Ripper. Mastering Wheelies is on my 53 yo agenda
@arizonalifestylechannel2186 yes sir, you can do it.
Stock 36 for sale? Do you think the seat post has anything to do with it? Thank you
I just put on a layback with a support.. it sat me way to far back but it was very easy to pull up..farther back than I would want to sit though. Yes I think it does factor in.
Should I stick with 29 or go with 27.5 I’m 5.9 155lbs
My daughter is 5'2" and 14 she'll only ride a 29er.. anything else doesn't make sense to me.
hey man, great video. Quick question. Do you find that your caliper comes out of alignment a lot on your disk break bike? I find that after a ride almost every time I've got to re adjust my shit again. Kinda sucks and its making me miss my V-break bike
No I don't, I would assume something isn't installed right. Mine are prefect all the time. I only need to adjust the lever every so often.
Good video man, looking to get a Big Ripper or Monster Ripper which one do you like better etc.? Still the Monster? I’m a 45yr old 6’ 4” 210lb Have you checked out a Fast Ripper? Not sure if I want gears?
I like both but if I was only going to own one it would be a monster ripper. Bigger tires, disk brakes front and back. I prefer no gears👍😁
