4 Times I've Been CHEATED By Food Challenge Restaurants!!

- Hey everyone!! Here is a "different" kind of video than we normally post, where I reveal 4 times I've been cheated by food challenge restaurants during the past few years of my 10-year career as a professional eater. It's totally mind-boggling to me that someone would fly or drive many hours to help positively promote a restaurant by doing their food challenge to post a video on his or her growing social media, and rather than show appreciation, lol the restaurant cheats the person and screws them over by taking malicious actions to make the challenge way harder than it normally is. This has happened other times, but I have no intention of going back to any of these 4 restaurants, so there is no need to "cover up" or hide their unethical practices. There's no doubt that Lulu's is the SA version of Amy's Baking Company. Pretends to sell more food than they make, but a large chunk of the money coming into that place is from drug deals or human trafficking. I hope that "higher-upper manager" ends up in prison.

As a native San Antonian, I am deeply ashamed of Lulu’s. I’m so sorry you were treated that way, Randy.
The whole point of a food challenge is creating advertisement, it's crazy for a restaurant to not only forbid filming but to act the way they did even after randy offered to sign a document agreeing to their terms. Now over 10.5 million people at this point know to never go there because of poor customer service.

People saying that the food is gross there lmao... Customer service is a big thing for me, the second I read a bunch of comments about poor customer service I will refuse to go to that restaurant. I can't believe they prevented him from recording, then treated him like the bad guy, just messed up.
I have a HUGE amount of respect for this video. Using your influence to stop unsuspecting diners spending their dime in restaurants run by greedy operators... that drives folks to other spots run by people who actually care. I not only love this, but I wish more of the big eaters would do this. 5 stars.

Wtf is wrong with lulu's? That's ridiculous. They literally turned away like 1 grand of business at a minimum and lost at least a hundred grand in revenues from bad publicity.

Hey Randy! I didn't know we had any restaurants doing food challenges in Greece and was surprised to see that one of them mistreated a professional so bad they wouldn't want to come back for it. Shame, by the looks of it they lost 10 million potential clients from around the globe.
Being a local from San Antonio, I apologize for that happening to you and the other families. That is completely horrible. That restaurant has been shut down for a while now. And in my opinion wasn't that great and hadn't been for years. The few times I went, it wasn't a good at all. Again I apologize for your experience there. If you're ever in San Antonio again we'll have a BBQ for you.

This happened to a someone I knew. He was thrown out of an all you can eat restaurant. His lawyer said it was the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since his suit against the film " The Never Ending Story".

You did a good challenge in Topeka a few years ago in Topeka Pizza where the prize was $500 bucks, 24 slices New York style slices, and I attempted it and was proud to say I was the second closest person to finish it with 19 slices down before the 30 minute allocated time given. You came in the next day and smashed it. Congrats on that win. You are a true professional eater and just a beast. #atlasthebeast!

Randy Santel 50% (1/2 - 1 Dozen) of restaurants who’s food challenge I completed, banned me from returning. 100% of them have been Asian/Indian restaurants. One time - a guy Pulled a Taser on me and told me to GTFO.

Lulu's went way down hill and is just nasty. Last time I went after a few years, we were swarmed by flies and the food was over a hour late and nasty. We were like only the second table there. No reason for it being way too long and that cold and dry. Blech. Save yourself and don't go. Go to Big Lou's instead.

Good for you. I wish some of the other food challengers would call out these cheating restaurants for their unethical practices. The way that extra food is added (especially fries) is awful. If they don’t want to honor the challenge then don’t advertise it. Each of them should publicly weigh each challenge to ensure that it’s legit. It's very interesting going onto the Lulu's link and seeing that multiple people did write reviews and reported it around the time it occurred. It's interesting hearing their stories too. I truly believe the pandemic combined with this was what made them close. I'm not around there, but have seen this restaurant and their buns on numerous shows. So I know at one point they were big. It's funny how they probably thought the worst from this was YOU'D expose them (I mean why so defensive you need to say no cameras and bring the cops?), however the reality is it was the customers who were kicked out. Also, it isn't just a one time story, it was reported multiple times, which gives it more substance.
This guy is a very humble and respectful. I wish him good luck on his future challenges

You didn't miss out on anything at Lulu's. Took a small group trip there one morning from Houston mostly to check out that huge cinnamon roll. It looked amazing, and was enormous. But it had 0 flavor. It was like eating a huge loaf of tough bread. It was so bad we didn't even take leftovers.
Thanks Randy, you've always seemed like a stand-up guy and thats why I love your content. It's dishonest for restaurants to screw anyone over, proffessional eaters or not. If they'll cheat people on camera, how do we know they're not cheaping out on ingreedients and charging premium for dog meat. All you're doing is looking out for your fans by making sure they don't get cheated at one of these restaurants.
It is to the restaurants’ advantage that you succeed in beating the challenge.
It encourages others to take the challenge.
And it give the restaurants more publicity than the cost of the meal.
Exactly, I cant imagine why any restaurant would be so obsessed they feel the need to put their thumb on the scale to ensure you cant win. Just... why? I mean, i GUESS bragging rights about "beating" the professionals, but if you have to cheat to win, thats pretty sad. I wonder if Man Versus Food dealt with this? or if them being a legit tv show backed by a company meant they didnt get messed around with as much. I know in one of his first episodes he nearly died from a hot wing challenge because they just dumped the ghost pepper extract on it, but I dont know if it was a running problem or not.

Eh... it may not make sense but it's still the owner's choice what he/she wants to do to the restaurant. Sometimes advertisements might not be a good thing if a restaurant doesn't want too many tourists coming to eat there that may annoy long term local customers that are already giving them good business.

when it's his fault, yeah. which usually if he loses it really is his fault, of course to me anytime they "accidentally" add a couple pounds of potato/food to a challenge, that's far from being his fault, it's Sabotage as described in the food encyclopedia.

Lulu’s in San Antonio is so gross. Everything is sticky. It smells of a sewer leak and the staff was rude.

I went once, had the same experience. and the cinnamon roll was not good. just massive bread covered in powdered sugar glaze. nothing special at all.
Haven’t been In two years, can’t believe the sewer smell is still lingering .

It's also in a part of town that had become increasingly dangerous over the past few years. Would not go there.
Lulu's ex-husband is in jail because he tried to hire someone to kill his wife. They used to run a place called jailhouse cafe. It closed after he went to jail. Turned into Lulu's bakery and cafe upon rebranding.
It closed during covid and instead they now have 3 different vegetarian restaurants. The 3.5lb cinnamon rolls are on the way back this year I think.

LuLu's is officially closed, noticed on their page they had a bunch of people that didn't tolerate them because of what happened to you, their fb is littered with unsatisfied people saying they should apologize and linking this video, good stuff.

Any restaurant suddenly denying the recording of a food challenge is most likely hiding health code violoations. If it ever happens again call the local health department! The situation you ran into is VERY suspect!

This seg was very interesting because how often do we get to hear about what I would call “ the rarely divulged underbellies of untrustworthy restaurants. “ It must be disappointing Randy when you know your getting screwed but still try for the love of your art and to give it a go, your in the entertainment field, but when this happens I’m sure it’s super hard to keep upper lip because in all reality these “ ready for the free P.R. restaurants, smile and then stack their own decks ,”really let you down and we all feel for you man because it such a waste of valuable time & money for yourself and for your crew. I’ve been a manager at restaurants for about 10 years, that last restaurant is absolutely insane. Not being able use cameras incites that they know they are not up to par with either health code or common decency.

They're not up to health code and their food has been almost consistently been a source of food sickness.

I can't believe how dumb these places are. They should be serving you a _smaller_ version of the challenge because they want you to win it so that the world sees your videos and thinks that the challenge is winnable. Texan native here. I’ve been to Lulu’s a couple of times. I’ve had the giant cinnamon roll and their (smaller) chicken fried steak. It’s nothing special and the cinnamon rolls are over-hyped. Everyone now boycotting Lulu’s is not missing anything. At. All.

You can still call their phone #. The manager or someone is there during weekdays, or at least today. I asked her why they wont let my boy promote their restaurant? Then I told the lady, well you got the attention that filming gives, either way.
Instead of positive promotional footage, youre getting canceled.
