AYA No 4 is. a boxlock. The sidelock you are using looks like the AYA Countryman.
Full and full for steel. Good to see that you understand the steel shot regulations. Most people don't.
Side by side shotguns always take me back to a more simple time, and represent the most poetic and romantic side of shooting and hunting in general. And I love tight choked guns. When it comes to using lead free ammunition in a full choke, I would use bismuth or BioAmmo Blue cartridges, which in comparison to bismuth are a bit cheaper and they (most likely) to the same job. I don't feel comfortable using steel in an old gun. Maybe it's ignorance on my part. Actually, I have a suggestion for David... have a shoot with and old French side by side shotgun... either Manufrance or Darne. I can almost guarantee you'll fall in love with them after the first pulling of the trigger

I absolutely love Side by Sides. I have ten of them but only two Over/Unders. I've never seen a nice AYA here in America, but I would love to own one. I've shot them and owned SxS's since I was ten years of age. They have never done me wrong!
The problem with AYA No4s are the the majority are choked 1/2 and full you’ll need the chokes opening up for standard performance steel it’s hard to find a nice condition one now for under £500 unless you go to somewhere like holts i’ve a soft spot for them and on the look out for a No4 best quality bollock which fetch a premium
David, I think you say these things to provoke comments..."officially you need full and full for shooting steel but you can still shoot lead??????"

Nice gun love side by sides and i like AyA only that gun would sell for at least $2000 or more here in the United States. Cheers Ron
I didn't know that the Aguirre Y Aranzábal (AYA) was so apreciated in the UK... They are really nice sxs guns, well made by the Spanish manufature.
It is clearly a sidelock. You can clearly see the pins of the sidelock. Moreover, as far as I know, AYA did not make any side-plated boxlock.
I have a Fabarm Classis 20 in a sxs and love it, its multi choke and steel shot proof, so future proof
Excellent David , could see you hit and miss the clays! I have a Laurona 3 inch magnum which I love to shoot with, it’s slightly tight choked though, but I need to get better😄
Nothing tighter than 1/4 I believe if not HP steel proofed?

Can’t say I’ve ever seen an AYA side plated gun before so better look harder if they are so easy to buy sub £500
It is a side lock, not a side plate and to say it is the equivalent of a No.4 well, just beggars belief!
So now I’m confused….what actually is it? Side plate or sidelock? Model number?
