World Domination and Just Bring It are closest to my historical musical tastes, Unseen World is a masterpiece, but as I’ve gotten older Conquerer has captured my heart.
I think Conquerer is Band-Maid's realization of everything they worked so hard to develop - clever and intelligent composition, arrangement, melodies and harmonies, instrumentation (which mixes between voices and instruments), and rhythm. I think it blasts opens the door to the Band-Maid sound that is unique to them. From here, they progress as themselves.
My favorite album. This is when they started experimenting with vocal harmonies. The special edition CD had the instrumental DVD for "Domination," "Dice," and "Onset."
@@MichaelNolen "Conqueror" is underrated because it has so many great songs. They couldn't do MV's for that many of them so people don't know about them.
Can you imagine Band Maid time traveling to Woodstock and playing The Dragon Cries? It would simultaneously “fit”, yet also blow people away. Hendrix would fanboy out! Also, Catharsis always sounds (instrumentally) like it comes straight off of Yes’ 1974 album “Relayer”. Amazing how versatile Band Maid are.
Thanks! As I was watched your review I realized that Conqueror has gradually become my most frequently played and favorite Band Maid album. While many of my favorite songs are on other albums I think this complete album is their most heartfelt and was the first to display the creative freedom and confidence that we have seen on full display since then. The name of the album was exactly what it was!
Dilemma was the song added to the album after they finished the recording of the album. Maids were celebrating the completion of the Conqueror album recording at a cafe. Saiki suddenly said "Don't we need one more fast-tempo song for this album?". All other members except Kaname nodded. So they decided to add one more song for the album. Kanami turned pale😱 because she had to compose a new song in 3-4 days. Btw, Miku had only a day or so to write the lyrics of Dilemma.😂
Actually this is about the only song that always makes me feel like skipping immediately, it's my biggest dilemma. I don't know why, why, why.....it still have great groove and intricacy that grab my attention but never won me over.
Fantastic to recover an analysis of this excellent album. This is the Band Maid LP that I usually listen to from beginning to end, it is perfectly constructed, a thing of beauty. A little trick, it has a different impact if you listen to it ordered backwards starting with Rinne and ending with Page.
Loving your breakdown so far guys, great album (well they all are). Midnight here in Scotland and only on Endless Story (fantastic song and often their closure to a concert - hope it means Band-Maid are an ever ending story) so will come back to this tomorrow night
I agreee with Alan, Dragon Cries is a good song. Quite a lot of fans did not seem to like it, complaining the video was too depressing and graphic. It's not like the maids preach very often, and its not political, they are not preaching any political bias, they are just singing about what is happening to the planet, and it is a good rock track
I think the song is okay, but it’s just entirely wrong for Band-Maid. Like, if Band-Maid did the song on the topic without outside intervention, I imagine it would be pumping you up to work as hard as you can to fix things, right fing now, instead of being all mopey and defeatist. That’s not world domination energy.
I never really thought about it in that way before, but you've got a great point. It's not just an unexpected vibe from Band- Maid; it's a NOT Band-Maid vibe; Miku lyrics would have had a positive counterpoint along with the downer acknowledgment of reality. One of the great things about Band-Maid songs is that they tend to be uplifting but not Pollyanna-ish; they're still gritty. Miku usually keeps it vague and relatable for most people, but positive: she just wants us all to get along and be our best selves together while overcoming all our challenges. The Cluppo project leans more into a "not just you, but all of us" angle. PS "Wonderland" is a damn masterpiece.
I see no reason to try to limit what B-M does, judging what’s right or wrong for them. It’s a great song and a very powerful video. The problem is with fans’ preconceptions, not the song.
This album is my favorite BAND-MAID album, but it's not perfect. They should have added "smile" and "screaming". In fact, my podcast "Conqueror" includes these two songs.
Page is one of Saiki's favorite lyrically written songs by Miku. she even designed a lyric shirt for it. ;) Saiki being a baseball fan, threw out Page like it was a change up when fans of WD were expecting a fast ball. So funny seeing myself in chat from way back when LOL
have u guys heard decided by myself? great track. i love this album i do think, in the end, as fun as it is and entertaining, there is no way we can really judge an ablum on first listne, this album is very experimental and poppy while maintaing that band maid sound, i perseonally resonate with it alot, BUT... please find the lives of each asong as they really pop more than the album guys loved all your reactions for years, love to hear you react to more dir en grey,
I agree with Alan about originality, that's why I absolutely love Wonderland, Mirage, Bubble, Glory and probably Cathersis with the weird ass Kanami solo that you are not sure of. BTW the guitar solo in wonderland takes me on merry-go-round ride for some reason in Wonderland...it really takes me to wonderland.😀
I've always loved the spicy variety of Conqueror, it really shows the Maids trying out just about everything. Hard for me to rank Band-Maid albums, but CQ is S-tier.
Conqueror is one of my three favorite full length albums along with WD and UW. Just Bring It would be fourth if Unfair Game and Matchless Gum were added. Because the 9 that they composed are great but the 4 of the other authors rather belong on Brand New Maid or New Beginning. But that's just my opinion. Good job guys.
I love Conqueror but I feel like they pulled a Smashing Pumpkins move and went too softcore after getting burned out on hardcore. But it's hard to top two of the best albums ever which preceded. Another thing is that they toned down their look for some reason. They looked really badass on the world domination tour, sexy rock style. Then for Conqueror they came out with all these long flowy dresses? I thought Saiki and Kanami might vome out with fishnets again... but we got long dresses. Very matronly, not rock.
The better Miku gets the more complex the songs are going to get. And they're already complex. Unseen World is my proof. Let's just see if Epic Narratives drives home my point.
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! this album is sooooooooo eclectic it has my least favourite song "Glory" and 3 of my favourites "Flying High" "Liberal" and "Renne"

mine also. full range of options showing their skills.

Page and Mirage. The lyrics we so beautifully written. Mirage is my favourite. It's so evocative and picturesque.
Good reaction‼️👍

I hope the next album it's my personal favorite "Just bring it" 😉I really enjoyed it thanks 👍
My favourite BM album by a hair
👍👍👍👍👍
First time hearing Page on headphones . Do you understand the ending to Rinne now .

If Eric says Blooming is his No. 1, then IT IS his No. 1, damn it! 😬
Eric loves Saiki's rapping vocal, so I guess it's gotta be part of the reason why it's his no.1 😂
One of my least fav BM albums, but has definitely grown on me over time.
