  • Liz Truss has held a press conference hours after Kwasi Kwarteng announced his resignation.
The decision follows weeks of economic turbulence caused by the government’s mini-Budget, which sent the pound into freefall.
Ms Truss is expected to announce a major U-turn on her former chancellor’s plan in a press conference at 2pm on Friday (14 October).
Less than 24 hours before being sacked, Mr Kwarteng assured reporters that he was “100 per cent” going to be continuing in the job

Anything from labour would be far worse. Boris should never have quit. His problem was the remainers in the tory party who won't give up their dream of getting back on the EU gravy train for worthless politicians. Nobody would have been popular after the situation Boris got landed with. All the party stuff was just eyewash from the media with the same agenda. We voted leave. He got the blame.

First thing she does when taking the podium is reheat her tired 'I grew up in an area that faced hardship' routine, which she has used ad nauseam to justify Thatcherite policy and ideology on steroids. It bears repeating: the period of her youth she refers to was during Thatcher's heyday.

That's right but her background is irrelevant anyway, I'm not impressed by people in power who talk about their 'humble beginnings' because even if someone WAS really brought up in the same circumstances as most ordinary people are, it doesn't NECCASSARILY mean they will have any greater empathy for ordinary people now.
In fact, those rich and powerful people that started off relatively poor are the biggest oppressors of poor people, seeing as they think because they made it, there must be something wrong with those who didn't make it, like they are "lazy" or something, they won't ever admit to just being lucky. Look at Alan Sugar, or Lord Sugar as he is now, a former E End working class boy who made it big, he has no mercy for losers, he only likes winners like himself, so long as someone has money and is successful, that's all he cares about and if someone has no money he despises them, humble beginnings don't always make nicer, more sympathetic rich and powerful people, more like the opposite!
