Totally agree! I think what struck me most and made me feel icky about her “trauma art” was that she was selling it. And I mean- to an extent I think this could be okay with some trauma, for example art that was made from negative feelings like depression. But the problem is her art is literally of children, it’s essentially porn whether it was made from trauma or not. I have an eating disorder, I make cope art, a lot of time this art depicts very skinny or even skeleton looking girls. I would never sell this art though because I wouldn’t want it to become fetishized or normal in someone else’s hands. I feel that people don’t understand the impact that art has, just because it’s fictional doesn’t mean it can’t affect the real world and I don’t think people take responsibility for that a lot of the time.

I personally don’t ever show my trauma art. That is, unless, my therapist asks me to do so. I drew some fucked up shit, but I acknowledge what happened to me was bad, and DON’T show it. This is YOUR art, you don’t have to share it. I do agree, in some instances trauma art is sellable, like anxiety and depression. I find it so icky that she’s selling her trauma away, that’s basically blocking it out.

(Please be sure to read the full thing. I have realized someone may mistake I am defending aggy, which is absolutely something I would never do.)
Hello. I am a child sexual abuse survivor among many other things, and I too use trauma art to cope. While it is not encouraged to share trauma art out in the open surrounding that category, it is just as safe and healthy as any other trauma art. Yes, it indeed will often depict taboo and gruesome situations. Yes, it indeed will often depict disgusting and awful things.
Trauma art is obviously not for everyone, but for many it does work. In terms of sharing said trauma art, while one can, it is discouraged to advertise it so out in the open. Especially regarding the current subject we are discussing. Hell, many that make trauma art don't want to share their trauma art so publicly because of how personal it is in the first place.
While looking at aggys art, I have noticed a distinct fetishization and sexualization that differs from what trauma art usually displays. For me personally, when I create trauma art relating to being a survivor, it has a surreal, abstract, disgusting and distressing tone to it. Hell, sometimes, it might even have a hint of sexuality in it, but it's always shown in a distressed and slimy manner. It is never shown in a positive light.
This is just how It is personally for me. Trauma art varies from person to person. However, for me, I just find aggys art to be more of fetish art than it to be an artistic depiction of trauma.
It is very much possible to be her mind coping by fetishizing these situations, but I feel that just crosses the realm of healthy coping to unhealthy coping.
(EDIT: I just want to make it clear that I am not trying to defend aggy. My intention is quite the opposite. I am wanting to speak on the subject as someone with experience who has done art therapy, which trauma art fits under, to help my therapist and I understand how I feel while relieving stress. What I am saying is that what aggy is creating feels much more distinct from trauma art, and calling it trauma art actually harms the legitimacy of actual trauma art in the process. That is not even mentioning that sharing trauma art so out in the open as she does is very discouraged. Many are uncomfortable with doing so in the first place, them being very personal. It is very much possible her mind is clinging to these fetishizations to cope, but that crosses into the realm of unhealthy coping and should not be encouraged.)

I've actually heard of this artist before. she went by a different name before that one though. I don't remember it and she claimed that she was a child in that one but I was told by a friend who stays in the loop with those things the artist came out as stating she's an adult but she prefers to think of herself as a child because it makes her feel better about what happened to her. Which honestly, as someone with PTSD and Depression I can kinda get that but I don't think that they should because of fact that I do work with children that have mental disorders and it just seems disrespectful for someone to claim they feel safe as being a child than an adult when there are people out there that will age up physically, but never mentally. It just... That feels icky to me.
Now my PTSD is related to my childhood abuse (Mental, physical and sexual) and I do find that as normalizing the whole child sexual abuse in eyes of the public which honestly, no that shouldn't be normalized. That is something that if a child said that "So and so did this" then adults should jump on the case at that moment and get the sexual offender arrested but with people normalizing the art they are also in a way normalizing the act too. I know this from experience (jumping back to my work)
I have seen someone who I can't say much about the situation besides they were raped a lot and they were a child. When it was brought up to adults the phrase I heard and made me PHYSICALLY SICK was "What can we do about it?" Like honestly, who in their right mind is okay with that? When I argue they tell me that most of the children get that stuff from the internet from watching or reading stuff that they thought was about their favorite cartoon character but it is like Rule whatever number it is. (I totally forgot, yikes) And so they claim that happened to them because it happened to their favorite character that is close to their age. Or they WANT it to happen to them because it happened to one of the characters they looked up to. So, yes this is a problem. It is a MAJOR problem. It is also very heartbreaking and sad too.
Children should be allowed to be children but in the world, they are growing up in it is normalizing things that shouldn't be normal. This shouldn't be a common topic of everyday life but it is.

personally, I’m not somebody who participates in age regression, but it is often done as a nonsexual coping mechanism (like, for people who feel like they were never able to have a childhood, and want to experience a childhood later in life). I don’t exactly fully get it, but I suppose it’s similar to how I use comfortcore and sometimes just really want to be taken care of, and I’m not somebody who judges people on how they cope. of course, the second that age regression is used to be predatory, it is no longer a harmless coping mechanism and should be called out. even if that person has trauma, abuse and predatory behavior is still harmful.
oh, and I don’t actually know this person or how they actually feel, but kinks can often form from trauma and mental illness. it’s a way of turning your pain into pleasure and taking away it’s power over you. if somebody talks down to themself, they may enjoy being degraded, if they feel trapped, they might enjoy being tied up. some folks even turned the pain of labor into something pleasurable (not something I know much about, so look it up if you want more accurate information). for more extreme trauma-borne kinks, it can feel like a way of taking back control. rape kinks, when performed in a consensual and safe way (or through art and writing), can help people who have gone through that, because now they have control over a situation that they previously had no control over, they know that they can stop if they want to.
but, like I said before, these kinks must be practiced safely and consensually, if people are being hurt, all that reasoning goes out the window, it is no longer harmless.
I don’t really know what the point of all this stuff was, but I hope this information helped someone

plus, youre not responsible for creeps using your content to groom kids. thats like saying candy stores are responsible for kids getting kidnapped for "free candy". please be careful with your wording bcs it almost sounds like youre making an excuse for the pedophile in a "well if this art didnt exist then little timmy wouldnt have gotten groomed"

@Navinci art isnt reality. art therapy is supported by therapists. if i can draw violent imagery like jason vorhees killing teens then i dont rly see why sexual art is any different. wouldnt both be seen as depictions of "child abuse". i used to be naive like you until i spoke to my therapist and they helped me realize that the desire to creat trauma art that fetishizes my trauma is natural bcs creating art like that is a way survivors can recreate our trauma and feel empowered by the power we wield to write the stories within our boundaries and comfortability.

    • @SimpleChaos
      @SimpleChaos 4 роки тому +80

Yenrisan I’m sure that if you told your therapist that your trauma Art/coping mechanisms involved imagery of children being sexual or sexually abused then they’d disagree. Being vague about it or not showing your therapist what is really going on isn’t healthy and you’d learn quickly that this content isn’t healthy to consume. Drawing gore or murder content is different, as the purpose of that imagery is to shock or disgust, but cp is used to excite sexually. It’s not the same. And if kids being abused is within your comfort zone, maybe you should talk to your therapist a bit more

I think it’s a lot less worse though if the characters are older (like older teens who can pass as young adults) but when they do it to literal children I get the ick. For ex. Miles Morales and Wendy from gravity falls VS. The rug rats babies… In my opinion, the latter is so much more disturbing.

However, I support those who decide to, because, idk it’s not my art therefore it’s not my choice what someone else draws? But with that in mind I feel like if you post vent/trauma art online you should at the least add trigger warnings or tags or some kind of filter so that if it’s something that bothers others they can avoid it, I think it’s obvious that if it’s something that bothers you to the point of venting you should kind of expect it might be triggering to others and that’s kind of something you should avoid.

That's my biggest thing about these situations, is trauma art is a coping mechanism and therapy tool, it doesn't need to be brandished in your digital portfolio. Draw whatever you want but maybe don't post it, especially when you know you'll more than likely get backlash for it. Because then it ceases to have any coping power, anyway, if it brings you more harassment on the internet (which I'm not saying calling out potential pedophilia is harassment, but let's face it, there are some people just calling her names and telling her to commit not alive).

I can understand this kind of art. But just many other things people like and prefer in their lives, there must be limits to what you like and how you want to show it to others. I mean, there's a big difference between a furry is in thier natural space or home and a furry in a crowd full a stranger's. Not only are they're going to feel uncomfortable around you, you're also attracting negative attention. This is only an example though.

Exsactly. With their logic if it is actually "Tramua art" then who's to say that art might not trigger PTSD or a panic attack?

@@maximumforce8275 and also why post it? Wouldn't it trigger people who have PTSD about this? I can understand that it could be vent art, and vent art is usually pretty graphic in nature and content, but some things should be kept for yourself, because you can hurt someone.

On a personal level, I find that kind of art disgusting, to put it _mildly._
However, I'd also have to stand on principle and defend someone's right to create that kind of content.
It's free expression, it's still a drawing, and at the end of the day, the art in and of itself isn't directly causing physical harm to anyone. Especially if there's a possibility that it really is the artist's way of expressing negative impulses that may be the result of mental illness or trauma.
After all, contemplation and expression are not necessarily condonation.
Not to mention, there are several artists whose main goal is primarily to subvert or push societal taboos. R. Crumb and the Underground Comix movement of the 70s and 80s comes to mind.
_That said though,_ this mindset doesn't shield these artists from criticism or scrutiny. Personally, I'd wonder why you would want to post such obscene and questionable content on a platform as public as twitter (though given their lax attitude in monitoring MAPs and real CP rings, who knows).
I'd also say that it's a good idea to keep a close eye on anyone who draws this type of content, regardless. As I said before, to express is not always to condone, but it still raises an eyebrow, and a few red flags.

Fargoth Ur Most people who do, have this 🔞 in their bios to let you know that it’s an adult account for adults only. Some of them even have their account set to private.
I wouldn’t speak for Japanese creators however.

I like to call this the "you can post whatever you want but dont be surprised when people are disgusted by you" rule
Like.....nobody can physically stop you from drawing little girls being peed on, but you also cant stop them from calling you out for that either. Either grow a thicker skin if you wanna be into weird nasty shit or post it where other people like you reside, some of whom go farther than just drawings.

This is basically what I would have it boiled down to as a point more or less. But I do think the targeting of her specifically is out of hand. It's some months since creepshows video and we know creepshow was wrong in her legality argument as well as how she distributed something she believed to be illegal. It goes to show a bit how quick people who hate this stuff are to seek out, pursue, and distribute content they find disturbing. There is no question in my mind more minors found and looked at Strawberry's art than would have if people left well enough alone and discourse/criticism stayed in smaller circles amoung adults prepared for the conversation.
That said, puppymilk 100% read as a purely trauma comic. I have friends who use art to cope who I could imagine making similar content. Everything else on her twitter was definitely more questionable to me and I did side eye it in a major way. However I don't think you really have to look far at all for equally questionable art, especially strange depictions of children, that are more celebrated than lambasted to the same degree people are going after this very small artist. I mean: Big Mouth is an entire show ran by mainstream and celebrated comedians. I think who gets taken down for this kind of content or any allusion to anything unpleasant is not a matter of how upsetting the content is, but how easy the content creator is to attack. If "its disturbing and I don't like it" was a reason for me to try and get art completely wiped from existing: it's not possible or feasible, and I don't think productive at actually curbing genuinely harmful depictions, and specifically keeping children from viewing them. Critique should be equally protected but calling someone a pedo on Twitter for their art is very easy, defending freedom of expression you (or I) frankly don't like or are uninterested in viewing is hard. It's very taxing and unrewarding to protect the rights of things that appeal to nothing you enjoy and your sense of distaste.
This reminds me very much of the whole Drakinator situation which I heard of in passing and am now more familiar with. Basically, this person was a popular artist and in their zeal to prove "this art is immoral and bad" of another artist, they sent NSFW to a minor. And unfortunately for them after being a very hardline moral arbiter of "good" or "bad" art, they had no sympathy after doing this. They threw stones only to find themself in a glass house. I do want to say I don't think the harrassment they recieved after was okay and it seems to me they have taken a step back to improve, but the hate the "morally bad" artist in these situations recieve isn't good or healthy either. Frankly I expect lots of people who make it their buisiness to seek out this content and clutch their pearls to end up in similar circumstances because being a moral crusader is not a sheild from the same criticisms. Once people have a reason to take you down people will find a reason. The only way to have bulletproof content against accusations of it being problematic in some way is to create completely saccharine content that says nothing at all.

“Whose main goals are to subvert societal expectation”
If that’s the case for these drawings then that makes it even worse.
