Well this was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the new format too! What a perfect day to stroll along Parisian streets. Blue skies look good on you and Lina and were the perfect backdrop to discuss sunny Provence. Well done, Oliver!
Beautifully done! Perfect day, you couldn’t have chosen a more elegant walk. Chat when you two are together is warmer than the usual Paris loner banter. The stroller was a lovely touch.
What was equally great about this episode was that on my last visit to Paris in September, I went to Place Bastille to see its relatively recent transformation from an urban desert and traffic-heavy roundabout into a popular and people-friendly plaza that’s re-energized the area and brought in fresh investments in clubs, restaurants, and eateries, so it brought back some great memories. If you’re a history buff, the location of the original Bastille is even outlined in steel nailheads at the foot of Rue St. Antoine where it enters the place. From there I found myself exploring the Port de l’Arsenal, along with the areas on either side of it, with the home of the equestrian Republican Guard to the west - you won’t be able to miss it - and the Promenade Plantee to the east, one of my favorite places in the city, (and perhaps the location of the next walking episode?). Thanks again, Ollie and Lina.
This is really fantastic. I feel like, with the walk show, you've invented a new form. The camera work (wide, dynamic but stable) and the audio (clear as a bell but with great ambience) make it feel as if we're there with you, walking backward. These can't be easy to pull off, but please do more when you can!
We had short visit to Provence, which convinced us we need to return for 2 weeks. Preferably in May or September. Thanks for sharing this discussion with the video!
Hey Oliver and Lina (and Astrid!). I love your walk and talks and find them much more interesting than just listening to a podcast. I feel it’s more personal and enjoyable. Maybe I don’t have a good attention span if I’m just listening. I would like to visit Provence and the end of September sounds like the perfect time to visit. Thank you for recording this for us and it was very well done!!! Thanks, Julia
Beautiful walk and great information. I agree that winter in Provence is dead except for Christmas as there are many Christmas markets. To be sure you see the lavender fields, the best time is beginning to mid June. July is a great month to go to Avignon especially if you are a theatre fan and Orange and Aix if you are an Opera/Classical music fan. Take your time in Provence, there is much to see and you will definitely need a car. Once you visit Provence, you will always return.
that was wonderful, merci beaucoup. As per talking about Paris (not!) elsewhere; I went regularly to France while living in England. We didn‘t care for Paris, but went to Provence, la Côte et Intérieur, Normandie, Bretagne, visiting the ‚100 most beautiful villages of France‘. THEN, later on, we lived nr Paris (Ile de France) for 12+ years, where we very regularly were in Paris. We liked the cultural and culinary offerings, the boats, the walks and parks, but we far more appreciated continuing our knowledge of the rest of France. Now that we are back in our home country, we give the advice to ‚Yes, visit Paris, by all means‘, but know that Paris is NOT France. And yes, never ever say you‘re from Paris when in Provence (ou ailleurs) - they really don‘t need Paris or want to be there. It‘s a cultural thing - and I approve. Should we ever return to Paris, I‘d make sure to give you a shout out; you are by FAR the best Paris guide, you do it all so well, in a beautiful way, not lecturing but explaining in comprehensible words, you‘d be my first choice for tours! And David L. for anything food, markets!
Thanks Oliver your walk shows are the best - I'm convinced you had a prop baby in the stroller because it did not cry at all, but if it did during your episode it would have been equally real and interesting.
Haha! She certainly isn't a prop baby, and it's rare to get 30 mins of pure silence :) But I'm amazed by the timing, she fell asleep as soon as we got started :)
I got a real kick out of watching this episode. I just returned after a week in Paris to Toulouse where I've lived since 2012. Your Rule # 5 about slowing down in Paris and not expecting things to happen so quickly is hilarious because people in Toulouse (and everywhere else in France where I've spent time) are quite critical of Paris because they think everyone and everything in Paris is too speedy!
The noise cancellation & audio was absolutely excellent on this video 👍. A really enjoyable format with great tips & info throughout. Thank you 👏
Awesome, thank you! Happy that you're happy!
Lovely stroll!👌 Superb podcast!👏💪🥰

Haha thanks! The stroller was an unavoidable touch, but glad it was appreciated!

Hello from Asheville!
Hello! There's a chat section to the side of the video that's a bit more interactive than here :) Try that too
