Joe what a beautiful story. It made me so happy that you found your fish. I could see that same passion that I have and it's nice to see others like that. Thank you very much for sharing your journey. What a beautiful fish as well. I have put it further up my list, for that time I make it to the UK. Cheers from Oz.
great fish mate, got my first gilthead last week in shallow water near Cape Cornwall, he was just idling in a gully, couldnt believe it. my favorite spearo moment ever and it tasted divine. like you Im stoic but had to woop woop when I bagged him. keep up the great content
Fantastic gilthead bream Joe i have caught a few back in the 1970s where i live in west Cornwall. This is one of my favourite videos this year thanks as always Joe.👍👍
Nicely done :) I got about 3 foot away from one of those the other day.... and it would have been a really easy shot too! But I didn't have my speargun with me!! Mainly because they tend to frown upon people carrying them around the fish market :)
Your genuine respect for ‘Mother Nature and its children’ is noticeably inspiring. That reminds me of my first big size ... Gilthead fish caught (fishing) after yeaaaars spent just dreaming of it. Such a wonderful fish
It's an incredible feeling to shoot a fish you have craved for a long time isn't it! Fantastic videos joe, I have really enjoyed all three back to back. Keep up the good work
@@JoePkSpearfishing Thanks bud. I'm anchoring down with my new born son this winter! So ill be relying on the likes of you and max to keep me entertained 😜
Congratulations Joe, those we're two beautifull, amazing fish! Takes a lot of time, effort and love to get to the level you're at, thank you so much for sharing!
She guessed trigger fish, her assessment was excellent . To me looking at the shape, the mouth and teeth, and head that’s probably the North Atlantic version of a trigger fish. I’m old now, but I grew around fishing, and I can distinctly remember the different fish since I was around her age. (Always bombarding the fishermen with questions at the wharf).
Amazing show of tenacity and persistence! Congratulations Joe!, very well deserved - good things come to those that are prepared to wait and learn! 👏👌🏼🎉🎉
Great stuff, as always, you find so many fish. Nice to see John, would love to see you all get together....Family, Forage, Fish, Dive, catch and obviously cook(drools). Thankyou for taking us away in these crazy days, you don't realise how much it means to us landlocked lubbers who can only dream of the sea All the very best to you and yours Simon
Here in malta its our local fish its really common, but when i was hearing the story of how rare it is in the uk i was thinking about dentex, how rare it is in malta! Amazing stuff mate
Hi joe ill be heading to the west coast of Scotland come spring with my sons to snorkel for clams. I really enjoy your films especially your appreciation of your catch regardless of what it is hope our paths cross bud cheers .
Not watched yet... Will be saving it for tonight when the good lady returns and we watch in amazement around the big screen with ice cream and cups of tea in hand. Im sure the videos a beaut MATEY... X
Hey Joe, this year i catch two in Galicia Spain for the first time , i make spearfishing for the second year in my life , i m 56 and this drug is very hard hahaha !!!!
Hi Joe, great Fish, Gilthead Bream in the Med is considered one of the best fish to spear, a bit like Dentex. Especially in shallow waters is very hard to get close to adult specimen and in my opinion here in UK a catch like this is AWESOME! Again my best compliments! If you can, have a look to my latest Gilthead Bream speared in Sicily and let me know what you think!
Just WOW! Great video Joe, full of interesting info, and excellent editing. Beautiful Gilt head, and it looked delicious when you had cooked it. Hungry now - good job it is lunchtime! Regards to you & yours - stay safe & well during these difficullt times. 👍👍
Great achievement Joe. As you say a beautiful looking fish, well adapted and very tasty too. I caught my first on rod and line this year not too far from an area you know well. To spear one a much more difficult task. Thanks for sharing
I'd love to enjoy doing the stuff u do but we ate limited to a lot of things by law here in Maine. At least I have your videos to watch, thank you for the enjoyment, always excited for the next vid! Best wishes to you and yours
Just love giltheads, one of those fish with a bit of a mystical status. I was watching thinking please please cook that fish whole...the wings, cheek etc. You cooked that very much like in the med....maybe next time with some sliced tomatoes and lemons on the potatoes! great video, thanks
Well done Joe, great video Nice to see your reference to the Fish Locker, another great channel. Perhaps we'll see a fish-off video between you guys in the future, rod vs spear. Sustainably of course :)

So you don't see a Gilthead bream in 7 years and then the first one you see weights about 3kg. That's a trophy to remember for the rest of your life for any spearo, even for us in the Mediterranean who see Giltheads quite regularly. I can only imagine how you felt the moment you knew the job was done.
I won’t find one of those in Oz, but I did manage some nice fish the last 2 trips out and some yummy abalones. I think every place has its prized fish, here it’d be King George Whiting.
New sub and commenter here - can't believe I haven't subbed before. My apologies!;) Just love the restraint I see you practicing. And your perseverence. Such a good example to set for newcomers to the sport - well, for all, actually. Huge congrats on the gilthead and then stoning it with a shot as it was leaving is just even better!
Great video , love it....Did it taste ok? I be eaten most fish, my least favourite was Black Bream interestingly, Just no flavour, I wondered if because it’s an omnivore, and it was grazing on seaweed...
Noice video Joe, congrats. They can get real big here in Spain, I've seen quite a few 5 kilo'ers and one I estimate was at least 8 kilos, it looked positively prehistoric! The biggest I've speared though was only 1.6kg. They are the most scaredy cat fish here, one sniff of you and they are gone! I've had more luck with dentex.
I fish rod and line. Usually you would target these in an estuary, but occasionally people have great catches from the open coast (often as bycatch when bass fishing from an open beach). Ive never heard a good explanation of why some seem to move out of the estuaries into the open sea.
That's interesting. I know there are lots here in the salcombe estuary but of course we cannot spear them in the estuary. I have to find them in the clear waters of the open coast. I think as the fish locker said they will turn up where there is an abundance of food. Very interesting subject.
In love with you channel buddy. For me also some fish represent all the years of learning and improving my technique more than the.. fish. Hopefully we can dive together some day ! Congratulations amazing gold bream
Great video! I love the passion and respect you have toward the fish you catch. I live on Long Island in NY, but have always wanted to visit UK for spearfishing. Let me know if you have any interest in meeting up. I would show you around if you ever want to come on this side of the ocean.

Great video! I don't suppose you've tried any spots around the south-east coast? I'd like to get into spearfishing but I don't want to invest in the equipment only to find I need to drive 4 hours to get to a decent spot.
Wow, i just love your videos, i do spearfishing too and im 16 yo, and here there is a lot more of gillhead bream, i ectualy cought one with bear hands in a hole 😂
