Ian McKellen cried on the set of the first Hobbit movie, not Lord of the Rings, because the Hobbit was not filmed the same way with forced perspective and that's why he was talking to a tennis ball. Just FYI!
I had a feeling that was the thing because when I heard it, I almost levitated through my ceiling to a higher plane of existence. The pride and joy I felt when you and them were both on the same list is probably better than having an actual child accomplish something.
As soon as Russell said the guy with the pedophile realtor sketch had been an author it actually made sense. You can get way darker in writing for readers (as opposed to scripts) without it being an issue. There are so many books that are completely unfilmable for this reason.
I agree on a lot of the talking points about trigger warnings, except for that one joke that 'nobody would ever use them.' I have friends who for several different reasons, as much as they might have looked at these things anyway when they were teenagers, have grown enough to know that this particular thing upsets them deeply even in fiction for reasons relating to real experiences, traumas, etc. and simply know from experience now that being that emotionally exhausted for however long isn't worth whatever piece of media they're looking at. I know someone might look at this and think 'They're holding themselves back from experience/thought/etc" and I can assure you that they have their specific and founded reasons for very specific topics, and have no fear exposing themselves to things that might scare or challenge them otherwise.
Ooof, you just reenacted a core memory of mine being bullied in middle school 😅 We all had to give speeches in front of the class one day, and a group of kids decided to count the amount of "um"s that I said while trying to get thru my time. I was put into speech therapy after that for years.
me and my best friend saw uncle function back in september when we were visiting new york and the toyota bit was so unbelievably funny but so true that now when we see any sort of media that is similar to what they were describing we literally say “ TOYOTA”. it’s crazy how something as silly and fun as your guys show really puts things in perspective! lol
Interesting about that street performer…I wonder if he is unaware of how he comes across. I know that when I’m very deadpan and sarcastic I can come across as mean to people that don’t know me, and honest to god, if no one had told me that when I was younger I probably would’ve continued and continued to been confused by ppls reactions. (Got the ‘tism btw, maybe he does too?)
@jrojala Judging by your reply you're not very familiar with neurodiversity... My point is that the person might not ACTUALLY be aware, meaning it's miscommunication and not purposely cruel behavior. Your reasoning is part of why neurodiverse ppl get villafied by society for simply existing as themselves and it's very condescending imo.
So unless I'm missing someone, I think that's three current or former Seth Meyers writers to come on the pod, after Jeff Wright and Amber Ruffin! Hoping for Cool Matt Goldich next!! 🤞
OMG Gianmarco I have existential death anxiety too! There have been times when it was debilitating. 100% the only option is to not think about it. I remember trying to explain my panic to my stepmom when I was a kid, and the only way I knew how to describe it was "I'm afraid ill be alone when I die 😭". I got zero sympathy. My stepmom goes, "Jesus, kiddo. You should be afraid of being alone while you're alive." 😂
Planets are the only naked-eye visible thing that have no effect on people whatsoever. And this fries some people brains, they must find the meaning of inconsequential dots on the sky, hence astrology.
Tried to comment about the trigger warnings and automoderation deleted it immediately lmfaooo. But i’m 100% sure that “unalive” and the like are to evade automoderation and have nothing to do with politics. I was on tiktok when it started and people of different politics used it because it was either that or not talk about it at all
As a licensed psychologist with an MA in neuroscience who is now learning astrology, I wish Gianmarco knew how similar all these sciences actually are in practice (and also that academia and psychology are also industries run by scam artists)
if it makes you feel better russell i didn’t know who tim dillon was until you guys started talking about him lol. so if you ask me, HE looks like YOU 😌
Another friggin banger you guys 💖 I was wondering, at the beginning of the episode, why this womans voice sounded sooo cute and familiar! So cool to learn Holly Hock is a comedian! Also i am HERE for mad Russell 😂 he needs to say SHUT UP more often
As someone who goes to therapy and likes astrology.., thanks for defending us Russel 😂 astrology is more for fun and finding meaning in things especially as an atheist, therapy is what I know I need to be a functioning person lol also I BELIEVE IN SCIENCE
57:38 i’ve thought about this exact thing. there are plenty of clips i’d love to send my trump loving family but it’s hard when some of them are 30 mins into a lefty podcast.
Gianmarco!! I love your podcast and I'm a fan of your solo content, as well! As a friendly, well-intentioned observer, I'd like to offer some constructive feedback. Please give your co-host his due credits at the top of the show when introducing yourself as well as when introducing your special guest. It really seems like you sometimes gloss over the fact that you even have co-host at all. For example, take a look at the disparity of information in the video description for this epidode (Russell's last name is never mentioned, nor does he get a bio blurb. See also at 17:28). I get that he may not be the host or creator of the program, but it feels like a pretty gnarly faux pas to overlook contributor introductions.
top nudity is legal in canada for everyone so idk why the performer said that? unless the rule's different for a performance? also maybe it's just my province but i don't think so.
57:15 I stopped the job application I was filling out. It’s absolutely comical that anyone could get within any proximity of Dropout and think it’s anything other than progressive. Sam Reich, the head of Dropout, is the son of Robert Reich, former United States Secretary of Labor, a man known for “aggressively liberal” policies and advocacy. Multiple Dropout cast members, and arguably entire episodes of shows on the site, are openly leftist. Gianmarco’s sentiment could be applied more broadly, sure, but to think any Dropout fans are “put off” by trigger warnings is laughable considering the contents of its media

The thing with trigger warnings is that it isnt always for people so they not to watch but to be prepared before they do.
exactly, if you know something’s coming it’s a lot less likely to trigger flashbacks for people with ptsd
English Teacher is great! Would love to see Brian Jordan Alverez as a guest!
bobbybroccoli downside + brian jordan alverez fan???? iconic
bja is allegedly a terrible person and a terror around la but omfg he's so talented he can be the worst person ever as a treat.
💯
@BobbyBroccoli gianmarco's posting about it is definitely what got me to start watching it and I loved it so much I finished it in like two weeks
aparna was one of the first comedians i really got into this is kinda crazy for me rn
I love her vibe so much ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I laughed so hard at Russell’s story about the crutches I feel guilty now

Deleting some comments bc I may have mentioned something that wasn’t supposed to be mentioned. Pls keep my secret 🤫🤐
I KNEW it! Don’t worry, we won’t tell Sam :)
@@zacharynovak2180doesn’t matter if you tell him; he’s been here the whole time
OH SHIT I’ll delete my comment!!!

I loved Aparna Nancherla in the unappreciated Comedy Central show Corporate. Corporate was so good and relevant.

1:30:45 - shout out to the folks who arent afraid to break the ice to get people leaving a party
1:11:17 anti better help ad
i love aparna
Am I the only one who wants Gianmarco's dad on the pod ?
Yes
Nah me as well 😂😂
Omg that would be amazing
Never meet your heroes
I think his mom or sibling would be better. Probably a lot less flirting with the camera and offering us a boob job 😂

Awww ❤
The photo of the guy was visible in the reflection in the pane of the framed picture behind you!
I'm going to start commenting on Tim Dillon's videos "I thought that was Russell Daniels!"
I LOVE her as Moon!! The Great North has really grown on me (especially as Bob's has gotten... different).
Her voice has such a nice texture. I really like her as a voice actor
The flashing lights thing is different from trigger warnings! They can cause seizures
we gotta give Gellato more credit for these seamless cold opens

Anyway it’s definitely a skill to make “mean” remarks or jokes but still come across friendly. So yeah maybe he just needs to work on that skill.

49:00 What episode had the psychologist on?
Russell is far sexier and funnier than tim dillon

What do I do if I find existential angst entertaining?
shoutout to the 🐋 who know how weird the street performer story is
Astrology has taken a full ten steps into the sphere of religion and hasn’t noticed yet.
Chat about comedians saying the audience isn't good during their act made me wonder if you guys ever watch(ed) Stewart Lee?
I have!
Another week, another this has gotta stop about fitness instructors
Astrology is BEYOND insulting to scientists.
1:22:41 Your 40 year life??
Gianmarco is SOOOOOOO right about astrology. That shit is poison.

ASTROLOGISTS. 🎵

Wow does Russell ever stop saying "like"
Almost like we should do a drinking game.
