The Enthusiasm Project first like and reply (BIG BRAIN 🧠)
Hi
What camera and lens are you using to record this video
Started with an m50 was really happy with it upgraded to eos r and I think it’s awesome it’s deff way more expensive but pretty massive difference in what you get.
The R delivers insanely good results, but I think a lot of what makes it great is tough to communicate without actually using it. It’s just a really enjoyable camera to work with.
The Enthusiasm Project I agree I think that’s a good way to put it.
With the M50 equipped with a Viltrox focal adapter and a fast prime EF like the Nifty Fifty you get seriously close to full frame performance. At the 1080P comparison these cameras are extremely close in performance.
Hey brotha, do you have links or specifics on those two things you mentioned?
@@DanCBearded Viltrox Speed Booster and EF 50mm 1.8
Another great honest and straightforward video! I am a fan!
Came across your UA-cam channel really like it man. Great work and wow the quality of your videos is spot on! Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much, I’m glad you’re here!
I film all of my videos currently with the m50 and absolutely love it! I upgraded from a nikon dslr. One day I will upgrade, but I just learned this camera. Loveee the auto focus
The M50 is really rad 😎
Nice video as usual! It was so fun watching this video because those are the exact cameras I own right now for my production! I use the M50 for everyday filming and the EOS R for bigger projects, I love them both! Thank you for the video! I like them even more now!
It’s awesome to hear from someone who really uses them side by side everyday. The small size of the M50 is a huge advantage!
The Enthusiasm Project Yeah, I love both cameras because the color of both cameras are so close to each other so I don't have to spend too much time color correcting and grading!! And yes, I carry the M50 everyday with a viltrox speed booster and a 16-35 lens, the best on the go combo! I learned a lot from your channel! Thank you for the hard work!
FYI: it was nice to see your thoughts on both the current line of Olympus Cameras as well as their upgrades and new hardware gives there new ownership...
Omg I forgot it was Thursday so I couldn't leave the first comment. This video makes me happy that I have an M50, even though I prefer my S110 haha. Also, I totally jumped on UA-cam to find one of my videos so I can email it to someone but then I got distracted because I SAW THIS NEW DROP FROM MY FAVORITE UA-camR 🔥🔥🔥 Have a great day at work darling! 😘
Also, OH SNAP TO THAT CAMEO AT 2:51! 😜
It’s kind of tough to beat the S110 😬🍪🔥
Great video, man!! Made me want to try it out the M50!
It’s a really fun camera, and the autofocus is spectacular. 😎
Oh nice! Great video and thanks for the comparison! Geez...I really, REALLY need to get better with my EOS R. Of course...actually USING it and MAKING videos would be helpful. 🤦♀️ I’m *SUPER* glad you released (compiled) the EOS R playlist...so I can watch, learn, and (hopefully) actually *practice*!
....ok...I’m gonna go practice now....🤪
Hey, at least it’s a really fun type of practice! 😬
The Enthusiasm Project 🤣 Yup...you’re *TOTALLY* right! It’s a good problem to have...right?! 🤪
A VERY good problem indeed 🧐
I own a Sony A6400 but this was still a fun video to watch. Probe lens shots were great!
I miss that lens 😢
If you're a portrait photographer, the EOS R is a great camera.
If you shoot sports like I do, the 8 fps burst rate is underwhelming.
I've used the 55-200 native EF-M lens and the 70-300 IS nano USM II (adapted of course) and its brilliant for fast moving subjects.
With the Sigma 56 f1.4 on the M50 most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference with the naked eye but the slower burst rate makes a difference
Very good comparison, as an owner of the M50 I completely agree with what you said. BTW, I was searching why the M50 crops shooting 4K: the sensor is capable of shooting 4K, but why does it use only a part of it? Could not find any answer on internet...
There are usually a few reasons, mostly to do with overheating. 4K footage doesn't need a super high megapixel sensor (that's why the new Sony a7SIII is only 12mp) and scaling down all of that information takes a lot of processing power, which creates a lot of heat.
By cropping in to roughly a 12mp portion of the sensor, it helps keep things cooler. Canon stopped using a 4K crop in their newer cameras, but as you might have seen, it did result in some overheating problems.
I think the new m200 with either the kit lens, or the EF-M 22mm is super under rated. With the 22mm you could fit it in a large pocket.
I can fit the m50+22mm with a foldable lens hood in a side pocket on my waterproof.
I noticed that you filmed this video in 4K and I think your main lens (from the description) is the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens, I'm about to press the buy button on the EOS R to get my channel underway, the main concern I'm having is that my room is probably 25% smaller than what yours appears to be, and I really do want to be recording in 4K... Would the lens you are using be suitable (as probably one of the smallest available) if I can't move the camera further back to account for the crop 1.7 seems to be massive 18mm becomes almost 31mm which is concerning... If not and I do need to change cameras, where should I be looking A7iii, 6600 etc? Thanks again for your help
Great question! So first off, the EOS R is my favorite camera, even with the 4K crop. For most of my videos, I just film at 1080 and then upscale it to 3840 x 1920 in Final Cut. The R has such a high bitrate, that the footage looks great, even when upscaled.
If you want to always use the true 4K setting, a wide lens like the 15--35 (or less expensive Sigma 14-24) works great. But really, the Sigma 24 pretty much lives on my camera and I couldn't be happier with the results!
@@tombuck Thank you! Ended up buying the EOS R today. So excited to get going.
Woo hoo! Congrats! That’s super exciting, you’ll love using it.
Thank you sir.....I knew you would help me out!!!
I’m always up for camera talk 👍
I really like my m50 I’ve done most of my UA-cam videos on it. The others were either with my iPhone or my GoPro 7 black. My two biggest issues are the lenses and it does not perform well in low light. Otherwise it’s a great entry level camera and second camera!
It’s a great camera! I’ve seen that Sigma is releasing some M series lenses that I think will really help a lot 😎
At the crossroads, so this is really helpful ! A question that pops up in the head - what if photography/still pictures is the need rather than video, would the EOS R still breast the tape ?
The R is a great stills camera. If you watch some of my recent videos, you’ll see that I’ve moved over to Sony, but if you don’t need a full frame 4K workflow I think the R is still the best value.
And the 30mp sensor is awesome for photos.
@@tombuck Thanks much for your quick response! I will surely check out your recent clips and learn more about your move to Sony. Thanks again!
Thanks for the comparison. Just buying M50 for my first video marketing.
Fantastic! It’s such a great, versatile camera. Love the compact size.
have you compared the EOS R to the RP? I was curious since it is still a full frame but less expensive.
Not yet, but I’m thinking of renting the RP to compare the two. It seems like a really powerful camera, especially for the price.
@@tombuck I'll be on the lookout for it!!
If you wanted to start an unboxing channel that included a front shot, top down shot angle, close up shot to show detail. With a budget of $800-1,000, what 3 cameras would you pick???
I’d probably use a phone, Canon M50 or SL2, and maybe a GoPro?
I'm not trying to discourage you, but I saw the word "unboxing" and cringed. Although maybe your channel will be different and will focus on quality content. Also, do you really need that many angles all at once? You can always do a zoom-in sweep of a product in b-roll, while giving your review. I think it'll make the product review look more professional, but also bc your budget would limit the quality of what you're trying to show if you're forced to rely on a phone as one of your camera angles.
I have made about 8 videos on my channel with the m50 and really the only thing that makes me want to go to the eos r is the horrible level of grain/noise on the m50! Other than that m50 is awesome!
The M50 is absolutely awesome. If you haven't yet done so, you might want to check out the adapter that lets you use regular EF lenses on it.
@@tombuck appreciate the tip, actually i have been using the adapter with the sigma 18-35 and at the moment i am contemplating whether i should get the speed booster or just skip it and get the eos r.
I legit was about to comment on todays video "Can you compare it to the M50?".... and boom. hahaha
I love it when that happens!
I use a blackmagic 6k Pro and I'm realy happy with my m50 as a second camera. With the ef/efm adapter I just need my ef lenses :) 440€ with the kit lens, bag and SD card is a no brainer. The most important ist the small formfactor and the weight so I can easily make "fake drone" shots.
Nice! I love the 6K Pro and being able to use the same lenses with both cameras is a huge bonus.
I love my M50. I have the white one and it's it hard to find now.
The white one is very nice. I wish cameras offered more color choices. Seems silly at first, but hey, I'd like to have a colorful camera.
The M50 is a great pocket camera. I carry it everywhere I go it is non obtrusive . Family pictures amusement park traveling in shady tourist areas
It’s a really powerful camera and the small size doesn’t bring the often unwanted attention of a bigger camera.
Need some help here. EOS R is out of my budget. Canon M50 or Canon 200d mark ii? Which one will be best for my COOKING channel?
It’s a tough choice between those two. I lean towards the 200D because it’s compatible with EF lenses right out of the box, but if you want any kind of 4K, then the M50 is your choice (I would just get an EF adapter for it).
Really though, you can’t go wrong. They’re both great cameras.
@@tombuck Thank you for the reply. Advance congrats for 100k subscribers. UA-cam algorithm is just around the corner. Keep rocking.
I have a rebel t6 and I want to get the m50. Is it worth upgrading?
Honestly? I don't think so. If you can jump to the EOS RP, 90D, or even R, you'll notice a HUGE improvement.
@@tombuck yeah I was thinking about saving up and getting the r or rp.
@@tombuck I forgot to mention but I will be using it for photography not for video. Does it change the fact that it’s not worth upgrading?
Glad i got the canon m50.
It's a GREAT camera.
So, no low light test at all? Quite a missed opportunity when comparing full frame to crop sensors, for the ones wanting to upgrade from the m50, it's very important to know that the extra money does give you more capabilities in low light.
I recorded my sinters and her choir singing inside of a church, i took the iso to 1280 i believe, and the footage looks grainy as hell. Besides of that, the M50 is a marvel for the casual shooter and the perfect tool for Vlogs and stuff.
You’re right- I missed that! The R is better, but it’s nowhere near where the Sony cameras are.
@@tombuck Of course, Sony is king above 25600, o watched another video comparison between the M50 and the RP, the iso performance looks decent at 12800 on the RP, but anything above 1600 on the M50 looks worse (in low light), or somewhere around that, which is a significant difference, and a possible strong point for the RP or the R's, against the M50.
I like to take some milkyway shots everytime i can so, it's tempting me.
I am immediately surprised what little difference there is watching on my iPhone which is where most of my UA-cam audience watch the stuff I make.
Definitely important to be aware of how your specific audience is viewing your work!
then why eosR ???????
The R does deliver better image quality overall, and as I mention in the video, it’s more robust and verbally just more fun to use. But a lot of that I just personal preference, too. 🤷🏻♂️
Hahah I have a similar conclusion 😝
@@tombuck It's significantly better in every single way, you wouldn't stick a 70-200mm 2.8 L lens onto a dinky little toy camera like the M50.
@@frostybe3r - An L Lens wouldn't fit, the Sigma Art lenses are perfectly adequate & shoot beautifully. The best camera isn't the one that strokes your gear-addiction, but the one that you constantly reach for & provides quality shots. I used to be full-time working with Nikon over 15 yrs ago, but now have the m50 for it's ergonomics. All that heavy gear and load is overkill, unless you're a full-time professional photographer. I'm a travel photographer and shoot landscapes part-time, which means I need to travel light. Photography minimalism is incredibly liberating. Let's be clear, between the 2 of us, I'm not the one here obsessed with "toys".
First again woot!
I think that makes it a tradition now 👍
Nice job with the video dude....As a Sony Fanboy I can still appreciate the Canons lol
@@tombuck I try.....I do work at a computer so getting that notification makes it easier.
M50 was my worst nightmare...
Really? How come?
