    The reason they are "playing" with the siren is so it catches peoples attention easier. also it may be the sequence they were using at the time

    • @gta4ishardcore
      @gta4ishardcore 9 років тому +3

      +Police Officer Sam You're supposed to change the tones to get peoples attention, not just keep spamming the air horn

    • @policeofficersam9426
      @policeofficersam9426 8 років тому +2

      ***** Different services do it differently. Our station does this here. SO its just a matter of the driver. If the driver feels it'd be better to spam the airhorn then they can do so. We have no driving protocols saying we aren't allowed to and that we are supposed to change tones to get attention. Changing the tone doesn't do nearly as much as spamming the airhorn. I do agree they did do a bit of overkill but like i said its at the drivers discretion

    I don't understand. As far as I could tell, all the cars were making way for the ambulance. Every car pulled over as far as that was possible and incoming traffic on crossings were standing to let the ambulance pass by. I was linked to this video with a comment on how badly the drivers react to an emergency situation.

    That may be the case where you're from, but in New York state the paramedics can write down the license plate and the registered owner will be ticketed; the owner is responsible for certain things that other drivers do in their car (i.e. don't lend your car to a bad driver!).
    And even if it isn't the law, you don't know what's going on in that ambulance, so why not just get the hell out of the way?

    Incidentally, I had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance today. I was stung by a bee and am highly allergic. I had my EpiPen but that only buys a person 15 to 20 minutes (i.e. enough time for an ambulance to get to you). They took me to the hospital lights and sirens and everyone pulled over quickly and efficiently, nobody sitting in front of the ambulance acting like a five year-old going "I'm not moving because I don't have to."

    Near the end of this video the ambulance passed a police car not responding to the emergency the ambulance was going to, and just before getting there it had to force two cabs to break the law and cause one of them to go through a red light while the other cab turned. Now what would be totally ironic is if the police car pulled over the cab for going through the red light, even if it was to let the ambulance pass by. Good video BTW.

    I know New York is a big city, but you'd think the citizens would have a better understanding of an ambulance and get out of its way. Especially the people crossing the street, it's like their trying to get hit, and than there's that stupid cab that almost side swiped the ambulance, even the cabbies in my city aren't that stupid. (Sorry to grip by the way).

    This isn't a legal question, it's an ETHICAL one. Is it ETHICAL to potentially put someone's life at risk just because you don't feel like making room for an ambulance?

  • @schaea
    @schaea 11 років тому

    Sorry, I should have been a bit more specific; by "notable" I didn't necessarily mean anything "big", but anything ever reported in a law journal (or where written reasons were issued)? What is your main area of expertise/practice within civil law? "Civil law" is so broad...pretty much if it isn't criminal, it's civil. I've been assuming you practice in the U.S., so please correct me if I'm wrong. I live in Canada and I'm currently doing my articles at a criminal law firm.
