This vlog was very good..too good to call it a vlog actually. Great storytelling, pacing and editing. You guys are slowly landing on your signature style.
I've never really paid attention to your subscriber count but checking now I'm shocked that you only have 76K. Your production quality is out this world and you deserve absolute millions! Keep it up guys ❤️
I can already tell, you guys will be the next best content creators out there, I guarantee it, and it would be awesome to meet you guys one day because I would literally travel all the from the UK just to learn a couple of things from you guys 🙌
Dear young creators. Stop selling your brand and ideas to buzzfeed. Be patient. Take time to develop. Own your content 100%. You’ll be so fucking happy you did.
Hey guys, definitely a valid concern -- we own the idea for this one which is great --- and can continue to release on UA-cam -- even if the episode does get distributed on Buzzfeed in March. 👊🏼👊🏾
So here is why I am not a fan of you guys doing the show with Buzzfeed: this show is very authentic to you two, and I think you might loose that when you do this show under influence of Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed creates content that in my opinion isn't all that good. I think this will lead to the breakdown becoming as clickbaity as the rest of Buzzfeeds content; afterall that is what got them to be such a big influence on the internet. I don't think they have lost that immage or even have been trying to change that immage. However I do support you guys following your dreams. Best of luck to you!
Thanks Tommy appreciate the thought -- Working with a company like Buzzfeed is about turning our passion of making the Breakdown into a reality. As it stands, the show is too difficult to make weekly while also working on our business. We definitely understand the "clickbaity" nature of BuzzFeeds past -- but were also very impressed by the team there this past week and where they are heading. Its hard to find success with clickbaiting nowadays no matter who you are....especially with most platforms prioritizing retention and watch time -- it's forcing everyone to level up and make better work which is great. If we were to partner up, it would be in the hope of making the show better and more regular. Thanks again for following along with our journey 👊🏼👊🏾
R Cody Wanner agreed! Also, side note, I really like what you’re bringing to UA-cam!...the new polymath series has great potential. Excited to see where it goes. 🙌🏼
I was expecting Colin to be wearing glasses at 4:52 haha! Is there an online course for "Vertical U" or for someone who doesn't live in California to gain a similar experience? This sound super helpful when it comes to understanding what encompasses online media
Does it feel weird thinking in the parameters of a company like buzzfeed? It seems like so much of their point of view is “how can we change what we’re making to be popular”, when a lot of what you two make seems to ask “what can we do that is different and unique” and then finding out if people enjoy the result of that.
Interesting, appreciate that perspective. It doesn't feel weird to think within their parameters -- If anything it's made us take a look at what we're doing here and apply some of the learnings from Buzzfeed. So...how can we take work that we feel is good/different --- and then put it in the best position to succeed and be seen. I think no matter who you are today -- clickbait doesn't work, especially with the way that platforms like UA-cam are prioritizing retention and watch time over just views. That's a good thing 👊🏼👊🏾
This looked so awesome! I hope your show gets distributed! But remember, as seen by their channel, BuzzFeed is focused more on getting a video viral than the actual creativity and story of the video. Make sure that you stick to who you are. Good luck, I can't wait to see the finished product!
Thanks, we do a mix of things -- primarily producing/directing for other brands + companies. We really believe in the power of storytelling to bring people together and love doing it. Our goal is to be able to tell the stories we want and still provide for ourselves as independent creators.
Are you concerned that your relationship with BuzzFeed may dilute your brand and your individuality and everything that makes you interesting to watch. Can you still be Colin & Samir when you have to tow the party line at BF. Organizations that get as big as BF are sausage factories. Sausage is all the same. Sausage is boring and predictable.
It's definitely a valid concern -- the reality is that working for brands/companies can be a compromise for both parties...but hopefully we're aligned in a way that allows us to do things we couldn't do on our own. That's when working with brands/companies gets really exciting for us. In this instance, we can't continue to put out episodes of The Breakdown weekly and still have a business...it takes too much of our time and resources. But we love the show and want to see it succeed. As we grow it's exciting to take risks and try new things in pursuit of building not only the show, but also the lifestyle we want. 👊🏼👊🏾
@@ColinandSamir Thank you, that's a fair answer. It's impressive to see anyone succeed on this platform because it's incredibly hard...I just hope you guys can continue to do it your way.
Plot twist: Colin is actually the CEO of Buzzfeed
gtkami only when he wears glasses
I can't wait to see the where the show goes!! It was awesome to meet you guys!!
Great running into you man hope to be back soon 👊🏼👊🏾
This vlog was very good..too good to call it a vlog actually. Great storytelling, pacing and editing. You guys are slowly landing on your signature style.
That's awesome thank you for the continued support man 👊🏼👊🏾
Colin and Samir are one of the few UA-camrs which make vlog simple yet entertaining.
👊🏼👊🏾
"Why we left BuzzFeed"
Because the workshop was over. LMAO
so... to sum up:
great experience...
clickbaity title...
:D
yeah lmao
Nah!! It like a reference to all those videos. If you knew about Colon And Samir you know they don’t work in BuzzFeed
wasn't hating or anything, love their work, just, the title feels a bit clickbaity and I tough it was funny :)
Good luck you guys! Been here since 7k hope to be here for 1M
Your name seems to be confused ... James and Kapoor ( both) 😊
Amazing thank you dude for being here from way back 👊🏼👊🏾
Will the Breakdown still be put up on YT?
I would like to know that too.
Yep -- even the episode that (may) get distributed on Buzzfeed in March will still come out on our UA-cam channel.
It's so much fun seeing you guys keep pushing and progressing. This is badass
Harshil Patel love your videos man keep uploading lol
Harshil my dude you gotta stop commenting on every damn video I watch
Thanks Harshil right back at you man 👊🏼👊🏾
what a cool opportunity! excited for you guys!
Thanks Josh

That title is absolute brilliance. I don't know whether I want to slap you or give you a high five.
Haha we'll take the high five
the title is entirely accurate, I love it! glad to be already be a subscriber here and see you grow
Came here after watching the episode with Michelle Khare. So great to see your evolution over the years 😊
wow what a workshop ahead of the time!! after 2 years this vertical video segment has taken the market by storm 🤘
So cool! Congrats, can’t wait to watch it on IGTV! Does buzzfeed offer those vertical u classes to outside creators or online?
Thanks! I don't think they do...but they should...it was EYE OPENING truly. We were very pleasantly surprised by how much we learned 👊🏼👊🏾
Colin DOES look like the CEO
And this is what being a fellow creative is all about. It's the ability 2 creatively share and grow as fellow artists.
👊🏼👊🏾
Yes Colin you look like him!
Congrats guys - this is a great step! Very excited for you. (I’m also 90% sure that the Buzzfeed CEO is firmly in the Colin family tree.)
You guys’ energy is so contagious I will bet money they’ll pick up your show
Will how's the trip man?? Saw you're in Rome today and are very jealous 👊🏼👊🏾
So excited the next program
I have been following since 10k subscribers... don’t forget me when u hit 1 million lol
Mad respect to Samir for repping the Cruz t-shirt. Soon to be UCSC alum here!
I agree Colin. 100%. - Good luck Guys.
great meeting you dudes! Keep up the awesome work

Love the flow and style of your videos!
Thanks Thom 👊🏼👊🏾
Great video, good luck for the future of the series. Please stay present on UA-cam with your own channel, I know you guys will it’s just a reminder
Always 👊🏼👊🏾
Please don't succumb to clickbait... you guys are above that.
Valid concern -- we were trying to be clever alluding to the wave of "Why I Left Buzzfeed" videos that took over UA-cam last year 👊🏼👊🏾
Hope to see your show on buzzfeed guys!!
Dear young creators. Stop selling your brand and ideas to buzzfeed. Be patient. Take time to develop. Own your content 100%. You’ll be so fucking happy you did.

Colin is moonlighting as the CEO of Buzzfeed! :)

Thanks Ria
What are the channels or IG handles for the other creators in this video?
Colin do look like Buzzfeed CEO
Nice way of getting engagement one guy agrees other disagrees and rest is left for audience to decide in comment section
that guy from the next step is on this video? what! Didnt know he is in buzzfeed too

Haha thanks Alfredo..nope not yet...still going for it and trying to build the life we want 👊🏼👊🏾
I think you guys are already great! There's no need to get in to buzzfeed
WOO -- hopefully y'all get the shot at some funding and development with The Breakdown!
Is Vertical U a thing that creators can go to still? I would love to go to this!
What a cool experience! And Colin could be the CEO’s brother
Wish you actually left, but I'm excited for your next steps!
Yes you do
YES COLIN DOES LOOK LIKE CEO OF BUZZFEED.

Just one to start..and then we'll see where it goes from there.
Good luck bois 🙏🏽
When Colin leaves and says " Thanks for having us." That my friends is a "Classic Colin Combo." Can we trade make that?
Nick!
ceo of buzzfeed is never seen in public wearing a pack back .
That is funny how identical Colin and the ceo are
Colin would make a good COO of his own company but he looks like a brother of the CEO of BuzzFeed!
Very smart title ;) !!! great work as always!!!
Colin: i really look like BuzzFeed's CEO
Me : *aren't you BuzzFeed's CEO?*
Y’all update your logo?? Looks like a little longer hair.
