  • Part 1: Are you considering buying any of these knives? We will compare four bushcraft knives in the 50-150 euro range. We will look at food prepping and rope etc.., sheets, fire steel use and batoning in this video. We score the knives to get a comparison. In part 2 we will look at edge retention, the handle ergonomics, feather sticking and more.
    The knives are:
1 Casström no.10 bushcraft knife. (Sleipner)
    2 Real Steel bushcraft no 2. (D2)
3 Nordic Knife Design Forester. (80CrV2)
    4 Joker Ember Forester. (14C28N)
I did a short unboxing and review about each knife separately.
    Greetings Wim and Boaz

NEVER leave blades like that side by side! ( 7:14 ) It's 100% sure, you'll chip the edges and I'm again 100% sure, that you won't be able, to put the same edge back again. It will also take a lot of hours to an experienced professional, to fix big chips on an edge of a knife.
That's one of the reasons, they teach to always sheath a knife, after using it, no matter what. It's to secure both you and the knife, from damage.
Ask me how I know all that....I sharpen knives for living since the 90's and I've ruined a lot of edges as a young man, back in the 80's. The first couple of times, I didn't know where those chips on the edges came from.. Then I caught myself, doing the same mistake, you do on this video!
Thanks for the demonstration, on how al these knives compare to common tasks!

If you watch closely, the knive's edges, hit on the spines of the knives next to them all the time in this video. It will be a miracle, if the very delicate scandi edges, with their low edge stability nature, didn't got at least a couple of chips if not more, after all those hits.

some of knives had dirt on the wood what you were batoning, so others dull more than others

Slow down a bit , ya got the sheaths mixed up when placing them into each one. Also the Real Steel leather is actually stitched better , the leather just needs treated to soften it a bit. I think it's very comparable cause it's just an issue that will go away with use and waxing .
These are all excellent blades but I think the Casstrom handle on the #10 forester is a better design.
Hand and forearm pain when carving long sessions is reduced greatly with the casstrom handle.

Exactly. These may be slightly better but the price difference is ridiculous. I could buy four BPS for the cost of one of these.

mixed the Casstrom sfk10 knife and wrong sheath, prepping food with a bushcraft knife is just silly, like using hammer to screw

    • @traveler5898
      @traveler5898  9 місяців тому

yep, I know. But sinds the knives are very similar it usually doesn't matter much. For the video it was a little bit of a blunder.
I agree that bushcraft knives are not for food prepping. However, if I'm testing the knife anyway I might aswel give it a shot. Incase you forgot your Opinel....

yeh, I get your point, to be clear, i treat knifes with respect but they are tools to be used. I guess that those video's were they destroy knives are not fun to watch either. Anyway, as i say in my video's, if it helps than fine if it don't watch some other video or do it better yourself.
