      People having fun with this game is not the problem. The problem people have with EA WRC is that the hype around it gave the impression that this was going to be a match made in heaven between WRC and dirt rally 2.0. Instead we get a game that is in many was, arguably inferior to those 2 games and to top the cherry on the cake we get a classic EA launch hack job, where we have to wait for months for this game to be patched to life. People are done being mislead and accepting garbage for the sake of being positive.

      Exactly, I compare this a lot to EA Dice Ralli Sport Challenge. It have that same Ralli Sport Challenge magic. Maybe even some devs from dice have helped here because damn I have a great tlme and it bring back so many memories from RSC. So 2 decades maybe or so since I felt this amount of joy playing a rally game and I feel like I met an old friend again.
      It's a 8,5 out of 10 for me and the only things holding it back from a 10 is that graphics could be better and less demanding for what they are. And bushes being borderline boring to touch/drive over, barely any audio on them and they act like an on/off switch spinning your car 180 degrees.
      So you could say it's a 9 game if you have a good PC. I leave 1 point for future small improvements. But it is good, it is a very good game.

    My opinion the graphics are a big down grade from dirt rally 2.0 and that’s surprising considering dirt rally 2.0 released nearly 5 years ago. I know the graphics aren’t that important and it’s more physics based but it’s still a let down and should be at a higher level considering it’s a next gen game

      I can only agree with you about the graphics downgrade and even have to go one step further. Graphically it's a disaster! It can't be the case that out of so many testers these days, none of them recognize how bad today's games often look and then rate them positively. Don't they realize how blurry, out of focus and lack of detail games often are these days and how WRC is too? In the last 5 years we have received so much hardware power and so many technologies like DLSS or other things that are presented and sold to us as the best and the more we pay for it, the worse the result becomes. Yesterday I watched WRC on 1440p Ultra Settings on PC via EA Play and uninstalled it in under an hour. I didn't get a top PC to get last-gen graphics!

      I’m playing on a PS5 and the graphics are way better than WRC generations! I understand why folks are comparing to DR2 but Codemasters had freedom to do anything they needed to optimize that game because it was a fictional title. With EA WRC they have real life course length and a lot more content. It’s funny, on PS5 I actually found DR2 to be beautiful but a little to dark on some stages running HDR. But with this game I can actually see in the dark. I am hoping they can patch out the frame drops and screen tears tho..

      Apparently Codemasters switched to Unreal Engine. It looks... fine, but there's some pretty tacky effects in-play. Just find some footage of the rain particles on the hood cam. Super rushed and tacky. If they were going off Dirt Rally 2.0's code/art, it would look tonnes better, as the extra development time now would be spent with more asset variety and polish, instead of needing to re-create everything

      Huge disagree on DR2 feeling better. I love that game, but WRC has much more detail in the FFB. It feels nicer to drive.
      Not to excuse the performance issues that other people are having, but my 5700XT runs it just fine. It's just the occasional stutters that need to be addressed.
      That said, they really should tweak the visuals. It's too washed out even after turning down the brightness. I prefer the more natural lighting over the heavy colors of DR2, but there's no denying that it looks worse in other areas.

    Give it a bit more time, if you're coming from Generations EA WRC will feel a bit slippery and more crazy but that is why this game is the most fun rally game I ever played. If you go back after 10 hours of EA WRC to Generations you will feel Generation is off and not only off but boring. It's like driving a boat on calm waters, no camera shake, no car shake and rattle all over the place. It just add tremendous immersion with all these small details. If your car door is about to fall off it change sound when it flap in and out between muffled cockpit to exterior louder and more vibrant sound. When it finally fall off you get full exterior sound leaking in. It's just brilliant and all these things make this game amazing.
    The sound, the feel, the rumble in your controller, the shakes of your character and his arm movements, the look and the wonderful tracks they have done. They poured their heart and soul into this and it shows. This game takes me back to the golden days of gaming when developers did games with passion and had more free hands to do things the way they wanted.
    I am no dirt 2.0 fanboy at all but this time I will hand it to EA and Codemasters for making such a brilliant and immersive game. I am actually a bit scared that reviews like yours and many others might make them change things to the worse with physics when in fact nothing needs to change besides bushes not spinning you 180. That is my biggest issue, how touching a tiny bush spin your car 180 and they barely have any audio these bushes so it just feel "meh" when you hit them. Other than that and graphics not being true next gen I am totally in love with this game.
    Another thing I want to mention is the fact that they give you time to correct and drive back onto the track is so nice. I absolutely hated how WRC 9, 10, generation etc instantly resets your car because it's sooo boring and remove immersion constantly. I think they did it perfect here, I can go wide save the car come back in and just experience this whole chaotic feel of rally without being reset instantly.
    A big thank you to codemasters for that it make the game better than generations with that feature alone in my opinion. Sometimes you are just off a tiny bit and about to save the car and it reset in WRC Generations, I can't express how much that piss me off. It feels like you are a kid in a harness and every time you want to explore something your parents pull you back, it's such bad implementation of track limits. EA give you 20 seconds and quite a long stretch before reset so it's perfect. Let me go wide, let me have fun and try to save my car on my own, thank you.
    Thanks for your review, always interesting to see what others think.

    This is just from someone who's new to rally games. It's difficult. You get 5h trial, of which I spent 99% of the time in the lessons section. It is very easy to make mistakes and some of the lessons I had to do over and over again. And speaking of, this gets frustrating also because of losing the momentum when restarting a lesson as you don't just hit "restart" and go back to the count down (which btw is unnecessary long, an option of 3 would be nice..) , no they take you back to the guy talking at you, so you have to click past that. Only takes a few seconds, but it's enough to interrupt flow. To all in my boat, new to this, I can't really say if it is too difficult to enjoy. I did get to play a little of the actual game. The roads are narrow, it's easy to go outside, even when being ever so careful not moving the stick too much. I might buy, it's 10% off with EA Pass. But a couple of people said don't buy, they will include it in the pass soon. If so, then I would obviously wait..

    My PC didn't have many stuttering issues and its only a 3080 with a 5800x3d.

I've seen reviewers of games talk about the UI like it's something important for so long... if it's functional and it doesn't completely ruin the game then it's just a fucking UI and nobody should even talk about it...
      Also, 90% of the time people complain about the UI is because the UI is fine but they don't bother to read or see what's right in front of them... I opened the career mode of EA WRC and I understood everything in 5 seconds... it's extremely straightforward but people complain that it's "too hard to understand" and "it's not clear"... The rally school is for people who are new to rally and basically everyone is new to the hybrid WRC1 cars so i cant really see the argument that they just waffle because you might not like it but someone else will actually learn something about wrc from that dialogue, and once again it is the rally SCHOOL after all.

    Problem with this game and the last game is that its impossible to get any throttle oversteer past 2nd gear in the 4WD rally cars on loose surfaces, so its impossible to power-slide or hold a drift on longer/faster bends. Its like zero torque in 3rd gear. This is why the RX cars were more fun to drive and seemed more natural and realistic compared to the actual rally cars in DR2.0, because you could actually get a bit of throttle over-steer going on longer faster bends. Rally cars should be able to do that too, not just the RX cars. You sometimes see the drivers in real life doing massive power-slides in 4WD rally cars. This is one of the reasons physics wise why RBR is still better than the Dirt Rally games.

    • @geoundici
      @geoundici 7 місяців тому +1

      I've noticed that using VERY WRONG setups (some) AWD cars behave better. For example, I tried (in desperation for some realism) to set all differential paramenters to 0 (ZERO), apart rear diff lock on rally2 cars. Of course nobody would use such setup in real life, but it gives me that realism of "overseering control" which reflects real life rallying and that is so easy and fun to find in RBR ( with mods ). I also exhagerate front softness and rear hardness for car balance. I know it's so OFF the real counterpart, but it's the only solution to find some driving realism and joy on this game. Sadly, I haven't found a workaround for some of my favourite cars like Cordoba, which behaves bad no matter what I try. This game is SOOOOOOOO INCONSISTNET, I almost hate it. If only they gave us the possibility to an EASY MOD for OFFLINE driving at least...... MEH

      @@geoundici
      Codies know that in Rally driving on gravel the idea is to brake into the bends then soon as you need to get back on the power to help carry the car the rest of the way through the bend. I think they intentionally limit the torque in gears above 2nd so the cars are easier to handle for the casual gamer.
      I dont understand that thinking though because that actually gives you less control over the car and you end up struggling on longer/faster bends because you end up having to throw the car through long bends and hope that the weight of the car carries you all the way through the entire bend, and it usually doesn't. You obviously need enough power in the throttle to help the car continue the slides. There are certain corners/bends in these games where you know you should have enough power in the throttle to help you through the bend, but you don't have any. Its pretty aggravating. Ive seen people trying to power-slide through 3rd gear bends by knocking the gear back down to 2nd, trying to get the car to power-slide. Doesnt work. Just hits the rev limiter.
      Exactly the same story in the last game. Brake to get the car sliding into the bend, then get on the power, but the throttle is dead so you get kind of stuck mid-corner, hitting the brake again then opening the throttle to power slide/drift through, but nothing happens, because the power isn't there. The dev's should go watch some onboard rally vids of drivers at Finland and watch how the drivers drift through bends on throttle in basically any gear.

  • @nike23osu
    @nike23osu 7 місяців тому +5

    FWD Front Engine cars are a bit weird, they are the only cars i have a hard time sliding because of to much grip, but that is a IRL problem as well, it comes hand in hand with the massive understear on FWD IRL. On a 4090 with i7 13700k the game runs smooth at 4k maxed settings holding 90fps average with no DLSS and can stay pegged at 115 with dlss quality enabled. Ive not seen the stuttering issues tho maybe its because i have gsync running and have 10gb cache set in the driver for shaders...Also GPU running at 100% is not a bad thing while gaming that means its running at peak performance...ideal performance is 20-30% cpu usage and 100% gpu.

  • @coastallab5526
    @coastallab5526 7 місяців тому +4

    Maxing out the GPU is absolutely the expected scenario for a GPU (ideally it should stay at 95+% all the time while playing), lowering the settings increases the bottleneck, which in return might cause more stuttering, not saying the game doesn't stutter, cause it does, but suggesting that lowering the settings is a "fix" is not the way to go.
    Those are shaders compilation stutters, meaning that the game is trying to compile the shaders as you go, torturing the CPU, lowering settings might potentially make it worse, since you increase the load on the CPU

    • @JaredPaul01
      @JaredPaul01 7 місяців тому

      Lowering the graphics from ultra to high on triples, it significantly improved my stutters, I have never herd that 95%+ gpu helps bottlekneck I find capping my framrate to 70fps and run fsr upscale. my gpu runs at 60-80% load, it runs much cooler and frame rate is nice a smooth.

    • @coastallab5526
      @coastallab5526 7 місяців тому +2

      @@JaredPaul01 95+% GPU means that you don't have a bottleneck, capping the framerate is a completely different thing, it reduces the load for the CPU AND the GPU, while making the GPU go faster strains the CPU more, leaving the GPU hanging and waiting for frames, when you top out the CPU, you stutter.
      Also this game runs single threaded like Arkham Knight did, so it's pretty easy to cause a severe bottleneck, especially on a 4090, just dropping from Ultra to High, made his GPU usage go down from 99% to the 50s which means the CPU is pushing as hard as it possibly can, with no room for additional latency in the pipeline, add to that the shader compilation, you got a fair reason on why its not a good idea to just lower the settings on a 4090

With all the critical talk around it, price should be much lower for me to pull the trigger, since DR 2.0 simply works today and is fun to play, so why take the risk? I personally don't care too much about the longer stages, but they are a welcome addition.

  • @FlannelNZ
    @FlannelNZ 7 місяців тому

    DR2.0 actually had MORE sound detail on more cars. Some of that has been lost in the transition to WRC23. Audi Sport Quattro for example. That 5 cylinder and all the glorious chirps and bangs it creates, Way better in DR2.0. In WRC the WRX and the Evo almost sound the same. And those are two vary distinctly different sounding cars. Graphics wise I don't feel like WRC is bad, but DR2.0 was better with weather and surface textures and the grime/dirt puddles/rain of the actual stage. Agree that the handling has some weird grip levels going on. It's got potential, but lots of work to be done and we're not sure the dev team will be given time/budget to fix it all before starting work on WRC24 or paid DLC/season pass content etc etc.

    Nice review, on most aspects I felt like you to WRC 23👍. For me the gravel physics of the for excample old Group B RWD cars, that I drove for 90% in the game, is amazing. Couldn’t get enough from driving them! But never mind which car you want to drive, you have to get deep into the gravel physic’s. They are brilliant, I am sure most people who said that the gravel physic’s are wheird, ugly, Arcady and so on aren’t going deep enough to them or aren’t able to get so deep as needed, not deep enough to feel the fine details, especially at the limits. For me these (gravel physics) are the greatest physics I have ever experienced in my over 20years of doing Ralley sims, and I play every title, at least for a few ours, others over 500ours, that comes out to pc.
    The gravel stages, for excample Kenia, Pacifico, Ociano, Greece, Finnland, Mexico, Sardegna, Estonia and Chile are soooo different in every kind and aspect, all of these have an absolute different feel, different Grip level, different lay out and are all a very big challenge to drive at least if you will bev fast there to come to the limits of stage/car combination. And for me they are also the most realistic ones I drove so far.
    Also the FFB on gravel is the best one I could experience in an Ralley title so far if you go deep with all their settings to set it as you need and like it, which takes me over 2 ours, but then the FFB is pure perfect with a lot of fine information and all information you need to be fast👍👌…
    On the other side Tarmac: The tarmac physics are not the best ones, way to grippy with rail feeling and so on… The stage design of a few tarmac stages for excample Croatia are soo boring, the stages there are so wide with thousands of same curves everywhere the same grip level and the same tarmac structure, absolute smooth tarmac as black ice, no bumps or things like that. Sooo boring…
    KI is also very broken, but carrier isn’t the most important thing for me. To be honest never testet carrier after over 30ours in the game…
    The actual performance is also a big problem cause of the stutters, but only one per stage for me, when I drove it second time I mostly don’t have any one. On the other side it runs fine with an very old PC with an vintage I 7700k (which is two generations under the minimum specs!) in combination with an new great RTX 4080 I have round 80FPS most settings on ultra on 3440*1440. If there are performance problems for you, set off mirrors (you don’t need them in Ralley) and set the reflections to the lowest(you wouldn’t see an difference while driving) and for sure, you will have at least round 20fps more with only by changing these two settings.
    Overall: For me it is the best (GRAVEL!!!) Ralley game ever released on PC. I am really in love with it and I am shure I will play it over 1000ours👍👌😍- on gravel !!! Please try it yourself! It is amazing!! All reviews are going from hate to glory…. You have to test it on your own…

    I like your review/thoughts. I also like your clever way of letting us know what you think of the title. When you finish with the good, then people normally have an overall good experience. When the negative is at the end, well then... One conclusion although is absolutely wrong: you say "if you are a real rally fan you gonna like this game ", but it's the opposite of it. Real rally fans going to hate it because they know how it should be, ay?

    I returned after 30 min of gameplay. I just dont feel like going through everything that turned me off. The major one was handling and UI. It just felt unnatural. The entire experience was bad. I would suggest sticking to all of the other rally titles we have. This game just isnt it.

    So you're playing on PC and you haven't noticed a single bug? Not even shader compilation stuttering which this game has and which the developers have put out a tweet for on X / Twitter stating that they are aware of it and will be releasing a post-release patch for shortly?
    The stuttering pretty much kills this game for me at the moment (playing at 1440p on an i5-13600KF, 32 GB DDR4 3600, RTX 4080, Windows 11 Pro 23H2) and, yes, the stutters do evenually get cached the longer you play but every single track in the career mode for the 6+ hours I've played have had varying degrees of stutter. And, sadly, for me I've upgraded my graphics drivers from 546.01 to 546.08 hotfix for Alan Wake 2 and in doing so it resets the shader cache so I getting to enjoy all those stutters all over again.
    A good game but it is in a very rough state on PC at the moment in my experience. I would advise anyone thinking of buying it on PC to wait until after the first patch to have the best stutter-free experience.

    Not sure about this, but your comment about an assist being on in the background rang a bell, not sure why I did it, I took off braking assist for the stage end, and this appeared to change the handling through the stage! Handling was less dead, not sure if I am making this up, but it did feel different.

    WRC is truely next gen only? It looks worse than a previous incarnation on lesser hardware on a previous generation!
    Dirt Rally 2.0 to Dirt Rally was even a large graphical step forward in the same generation. This is a five year development cycle and new, much improved hardware and it looks inferior in many ways.
    What bothers me even more is that I find the track layouts uninspiring, barren, boring and generic.
    For instance Monte Carlo is almost a.i. generated like it is done with the trackbuilder in Dirt5. The uphill righthand corners keep repeating themselves in exactly the same way. It is like driving the same road for 17 km’s. Trackside details, elevation (like the Turkey track in Kileton’s efforts) etc. Are all substantially lesser implemented than in Generations and even Codemasters’ own Dirt Rally 2.0.

  • @krlaturn
    @krlaturn 7 місяців тому +1

    I found this game a huge improvement over Generations! Realistically this is an evolution of WRC games so I’m not comparing to Dirt Rally myself. Dirt Rally looks and plays great, but it’s a fictional game (not licensed by WRC). Dirt Rally is fun when I want to take a Camaro down a fictional course! It’s polished and fun. But EA WRC has real world cars, real world livery’s, and full length courses. As far as handling goes, they changed it from Dirt Rally because of the complaints on asphalt. But I’ve found myself tuning out the quirks in the car settings. Speaking of that, if everyone has issues with this game, how in the heck did WRC 10 or Generations get solid scores. I spent hours tweaking the controls on the KT rally games just to be able to play them🤷🏻‍♂️. In my opinion EA WRC is miles better than Bigben or KT’s WRC titles. So in a nutshell, we are heading in the right direction with codemasters!

    This game is so so buggy on PS5. Constant freezing when driving, lag spikes, menu glitches.
    Also the physics. Why do all 4WD cars feel FWD? As in FWD cars can drag you out of tight corners like you quoted 'the more you turn, the more grip'.

    What a terrible game, EA must be ashamed to release such a poorly optimized game on the next gen console, stuttering almost like the map is loading in or a saving issue, the graphics are mediocre at best, very lack luster in the sound department, literally engine, tires and voice and thats it, poor feedback on wheel support, mirrors are almost ground and sky with no objects, about the only good thing is your windscreen gets dirty and you have to use the wipers, other than that its a very dull game.
    The original Dirt looks better than this and that was built for the last gen,
    Current games seem to be going backwards not forwards.

    There's no way he just said WRC Generations a better handling model. That is so not true. I've played both Gen and DR2.0 and it's easy to conclude that Codies makes better handling models in general. I may not have EA WRC, but the physics there are built from DR2.0. Floaty physics is not the way with rally games man. Just saying.
