Dad was a youth pastor in the early 2000s so naturally Relient K was my favorite band as a kid. 20+ years later and im still spinning Relient K from time to time in addition to Alex Melton covers so this one hits home. Awesome job my guy.

I dunno if you'll read this. But thank you. The acoustic version of be my escape was my favorite song for a long time. It was on the first album I ever bought for myself. Apathetic ep. It was my gift to myself for my 13th birthday. I chose by my escape (acoustic) to play as my senior song in high school. It played for the whole church during my slide show at a ceremony. It was like my first step into leaving behind the BS of church politics and policy. I knew I wanted more to my faith then what they had to offer. And so the lyrics played through the sanctuary. "I've given up I'm doing this alone now....I gotta get out of here...and I'm begging you to be my escape". I knew I wanted God. But not what they had. It was my first step towards leaving behind what I knew and deciding for myself how I wanted faith in my life. I went to Liberty. Was the only school I got into. I have fought and pushed through to become who I am today, despite the institutions that surrounded me. I learned from the inside of them that I wanted to be nothing like them. I wanted more. I finally got to see Reliant K while at Liberty. In the rain I stood outside at that stage. Yelling the lyrics to be my escape. Letting the rain wash over me as I reminded myself of how badly I wanted to leave the toxicity of what I had known. To hear this song again is such a good reminder of how far I have come. And to hear it in this genre is very poignant. I escaped.
this ones an unexpected treat. this was an emotional song for me around high school in my religious phase. its funny, just the other day i found a decent karaoke for this song on youtube and i had fun singing it after not hearing it in ages

Yeah, the intro/hook is almost identical to the acoustic version, and the rest is similar throughout. Nice cover nonetheless.

They haven't released an album since 2016, but that album (Air For Free) is incredible. Highly recommend you check it out.
