    This is random but I really like the fact that Tor Johnsson took time and made sure to state that he wants to make sure the rope gets tied properly and that he takes his role in keeping someone safe seriously. I think most people would have just laughed about it and paid very little attention to it, not mentioning it. Respect the guy a lot.

    • @chillierdavro
      @chillierdavro 5 років тому +1

      @@willthr336 I have a fairly wide foot I'm normally a size UK 11 these news ones are UK 9 1/2
      Many climbers (myself included) dramatically downsize their aggressive climbing shoes. But with the Furia S, I think you have to be extra careful not to downsize too much. your feet and experience may differ, so I’d first and foremost recommend that you try on the Furia S to see how it works with your feet.
      I find the Furia S to be very comfortable considering how tight they are, especially for such a downturned shoe, they really hold the front part so you can climb quite well with the heel unslipped. But once completely on the rubber seems very sticky and malleable, one of the softest shoes I’ve ever worn.
      Think they are going to take 10/20 climbing sessions to break in.
      But now my old red chilli climbing shoes feel like slippery carpet slippers now in comparison.

      You will eventually run into a plateau. The important part then is to just keep going, doing a lot of routes at that level. Mine was 6c. That was really something else initially, but by now it is either endurance or just one move that keeps me from sending on the first go. 6c+ is another beast altogether. Depends on the route a lot and generally requires a lot of finger strength. Have a couple of 7as in the book, but am yet to flash a 6c+. So just keep going and things will start to feel easier as time progresses.
      And most importantly: Don't get injured.

    • @SirRabbit
      @SirRabbit 5 років тому +20

      Sometimes not knowing the grade is a good thing. when I started leading I wasn't comfortable on anything higher than a 5.8, but I projected 5.9s, not a lack of ability, so much as just a fear of whipping, but one day my gym did a reset and they love to wait a few weeks before grading, so I hope don what I thought for sure was a 5.9 one day trying to push myself and flashed it, later they graded it as a 5.10. But it gave me the confidence I needed to really start pushing my leading harder than I was.

    • @TheRandomSpectator
      @TheRandomSpectator 5 років тому +6

      @@SirRabbit thanks for the morale boost. I should start doing that, especially since my climbing partner always gives me shit for not going after the harder stuff/whippers (to get over the fear if nothing else).

    • @sylvernale
      @sylvernale 4 роки тому +2

      @@TheRandomSpectator imo, of you're doing fall training always do it in a way that doesn't leave you terrified, so you don't reinforce the fear. I like to train extremely small increments of falls so that it's anticlimactic (i.e falling at the bolt for every bolt, or slightly above for every bolt). Opposed to forcing myself into mega victory whippers which might cement my fear of it

    • @Woodroffski

      @babsds0 5 років тому +7

      @@thinkpad20 Emil is definitely an amazing climber, but I think you seriously underestimate the level of competition present at ifsc climbing events. Emil would need to do some serious competition style training if he wanted to be even slightly competitive on an international level, since being talented alone is simply not enough.
      At an estimate I'd say 80% of the people who climb in senior ifsc boulder events have bouldered v13 or harder outdoors, and almost everyone who has made finals boulders at least v14.
      Fredrik is slightly better than Emil ,and even he was only placing in the mid to lower end of the rankings out of all the competitions he participated in, and even Ondra (arguably the best climber of all time) missed finals in the boulderng world championships this year.

    Really great Video - love seeing Erics Crew on a rope, quite refreshing.
    Though you mentioned climbing the purple route a lot of times Magnus, it would be great if you didn't skip the first 3 clips - for once it would get you discqualified in any competition but even more importantly in my opinion, you are some kind of role model and from a safety perspective it's a bad habbit I don't really want to see being picked up more by people watching you ;)
    None the less I really do enjoy your videos a lot and I'm always looking foreward to see any new uploads made by you - keep it up!!

    Perfect videoooo, what knot variation is Eric using by the way?

      Bowline Knot. There are just 2 knots used to tie in the rope. The figure of eight and the bowline knot.
      Last one, because it is much more easy to untie, even if you fell in the rope. That's the reason for the figure of 8, because o normal overhand knot gets so tight when weighted, that you can't untie anymore.
      Bowline disadvantage: it is not as easy to check while partner check, while everybody knows a figure of eight knot and can see if it is right from far away.

    What knot is that they are using to tie in to? Never seen it before. Not my trusty old figure of 8! :P
