  • A collection of James Brown's appearances on The Arsenio Hall Show (I don't know the exact dates, but it's all early 90s).
Converted from an old VHS tape. Please excuse the less than stellar quality.

It's good to hear James Brown say that when things were dark, the Hall show was that little light that helps get you through the night. It's true. If you had a rough day at work and come home after you watch the late-night show with Hall, you felt a little before going to bed. Since Hall was canceled, there has never been a successful duplication.

Bless James Brown's heart! I recently heard his daughter say that he was a strict father, very much the disciplinarian making sure his children got a good education because he didn't have one. He was just a fabulous man: father, son and even husband. RIP James Brown.

In 1974, I was eleven years old. My Daddy took me to see James Brown because he and I were both fans. The municipal auditorium, New Orleans La. Man I've never seen another concert as far as showmanship. He was young and in his prime then. Bootsy, Catfish, Fred, and Maceo were in the band. Clyde on drums, because I'm a drummer myself 🥁🎵. I love those guys. Great musicians.

My encounter with james brown was brief. I was doing the answering service thing. This call was from georgia and i knew the name and the voice. I was excited and i acknowledged. He was part of our jr.high school backdrop sound. Given the timing he was on a low. I didnt know about the arrest and prison time. He didnt talk but i managed to get his order in for delivery for butane. Never got to watch arsenio so now it was a blessing to see james brown get back up for his 2nd act.

First appearance probably late 91. Same band(x/"Pinck" replacing Joe Poff on sax) & 8 Dancing Stars as at Wiltern, 6/10/91. Second at 21:00 probably same show, different backdrop, Joe Collier still at trumpet with St.Clair & Hollie. Third appearance at 25:10 late 92/early '93, with Leroy Harper now on alto sax and Todd Owens beside Hollie as 2nd trumpet. Fourth at 36:10 likewise '93, with Ian Williams dance routine. Fifth at 42:00 definitely '94, with Waldo Weathers at baritone sax, St.Clair Pinckney on alto, and Kelly Jarrell having joined the Bittersweets. Sixth at 47:30 also roughly '94. "Mousey" Thompson has replaced Tony Cook to back longstanding lead drummer Arthur Dickson. St.Clair here on alto sax. Seventh at 56:30 is probably just before the program went off air, mid-94. Tyrone Jefferson on trombone beside Waldo. JB dances off the stage with Amy Christian. Quite a montage of appearances.

3 cheers for children who go to school and obey and honor their mothers and fathers 3 cheers for the parents who sacrifice so much of themselves everyday for their children oftentimes alone. I'm not mad at James Brown he lived his blessed life may he rest in peace. This country has failed so many people, its sad that so many have ended up incarcerated unfairly. It sad that so many are people of color. Some say BLACK LIVES MATTER. I say, ALL LIVES MATTER. Those who would take life indiscriminately belong in PRISON. Such a person is an animal.

I loved James Brown's music. I grew up, listening to his music. And, my favorite song is, " Please, Please, don't Go". He is truily missed.
