It's the end of the fight if you don't deal enough damage to kill him. Alexander traps each player, one by one in a temporal prison, slowly witling down the party until none are left. Fade to black is followed by respawning at the first boss in the gauntlet, ready to start all over again.
Perfect Alexander, the upgraded god of time, gets so sick of your shit he choses to permanently lock you in time with cages, which explode if there was no one inside of them, is anticlimactic. If you had ever reached that point in the fight you would understand why this is the best enrage in the game, cause its not anticlimactic, that shit is easily one of the best parts of the fight and even when going for reclears still fills you with excitement.
the only thing more haunting than the clock ticking and fade to black… is the immediate follow up of locus as you fade back in to living liquid…

You got to love the detail in this fight. You're in stasis, so your song timer stops, but the dots on Alexander still affects you
