Get your Tuya Device Local Key

- Short, current video, on how to get Tuya local key, so you can use Home Assistant Tuya Local. Also a little bit of information on how to work out what your device's datapoints are using the developer platform. I made this specifically to go with an installation video of the Brilliant WIFI ceiling fan controller, as the method to get the key may change in the future. The Brilliant WIFI ceiling fan controller is great for AC ceiling fans and for use with Home Assistant. But the information may be useful if you're simply looking for any device's local key.

Very impressive, I thought it was not possible anymore to get the localkey sooo easy. The last minute was also very very helpfull to get some information about the datapoints - don't know this before! Thanks!
I have unfortunately discovered that not all devices with expose what the datapoints are, but plenty do though
Dobry poradnik i działa. Potrzebowałem lokalny klucz a tu dowiedziałem się jeszcze jak odczytać parametry i jakie dane oczekiwać.
This was the most straight forward and easiest video to get this info, thank you!
Amen to all the people thanking you. Was ready to throw myself out the window lol. Thank you very very much!
Thanks, I couldn't get localtuya working, but you helped with the reference to data centres, somehow my devices have moved to central Europe, but it is working now.
YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER. I'm far from expert in all of this, but man, I've swapping betwen 12321342234235 tabs from git hub, misleading information, installing things, doing pcaps, to NOTHING. Your video sorted in 2 minutes! THANK YOU!
Thank you so much!! The local key had eluded me for quite some time until this glorious tutorial
No worries, glad it was help for you
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been trying to get my localKeys for about a year now without luck and you made it straight-forward and easy! Nice one Jim!
Glad I could help👍
this really helped, i dint know my VPN was the reason why i was not getting the right information...thank you so much
Saved me a ton of hassle, thank you
I was in the same boat as Jason G , your vid helped me to sort it brilliant work
Thanks Ian , it’s good a few have found it helpful
This method worked today Feb 17 2022
local key obtained!
thanks - i do this just infrequently enough to forget - so thanks!
You save my Time and Life! How Kind of You! Great Thanks!
thank you thank you! this got me going in the right direction!
he's back! been wondering if you were going to make new videos. I've been meaning to try Tuya local, so thanks for this.
I am back, I have filmed a stack of footage on lots of different things, but sort of went down a rabbit hole checking out batteries and solar systems, so some of that will be coming soon too.
@@SparkyJames sounds good, look forward to watching it.
No permissions. Your subscription to cloud development plan has expired..............it seems that the iot core connection server need paid now, is anyone have a better connect way to get local key?
same here 😢 tried to extend my trial period.. still waiting
Does anyone knows the answer to this question? I have the same problem.
Thanks So Much !!
This is a most Excellent Tutorial. It's helped me out a lot, but I'm still not fully operational.
Honestly I am still lost as to why the LocalTuya Integration is so Overly Complicated.
I've spent hours fiddling with it, and it still doesn't work right.
I've got only Basic On/Off with over 17 Tuya devices Color Lights, Smart Plugs, Thermometers, and Strip Plugs with 4 devices on each strip. They work perfectly on my phone app, but just On/Off at best with Home Assistant.. UGhh
I'm lost as to the complicated DP-ID's needed to make it work. Most I haven't a clue as the names don't match up with the Integration. I'm still learning, but sure would be a nice feature if LocalTuya just worked like the older Tuya Integration Did..
I don't have any of these problems with my 20ea devices flashed with Tasmota. They just work perfectly but I want to one day be running everything locally.
Thanks for this! I was getting super stuck trying to add my plug to HA!
How did you ever figure this out? Tuya did an amazing job of hiding this.
that is a detailed video. Thanks . It fixed it for me even after watching countless videos on the subject. region is the key
It’s is I forget to set the region almost every time 🙃
@@SparkyJames does key change if we try to change anything in localtuya integration?
The key remains the same, once you have it you can disconnect it from your Tuya account and it will still work local, in fact you will need to do that if you have lots of devices as there is a limit to how many Devices can be linked to the cloud project 8 I think.
@@SparkyJames I just change the time interval and now device is unavailable.
Scan interval? What type of device is it, and what interval did you set?
I have this "Data centers inconsistency, App account cannot be linked." :(
Is this still working? Just tried with a new device and it loads everything but there is no Local Key listed
Great tutorial tyvm
Good hear, thanks for watching!
thank you !
Thanks a lot
it's possible obtain local_key if the account is expired after one moths? i btaine this message ""No permissions. Your subscription to cloud development plan has expired." there are some mode to have local_key?
I’ve tried both local tuya and the other cloud based tuya and I can say with certainty that the local is better for me. That’s because the smart outlet with current measurement only works with local tuya. The cloud tuya doesn’t show me the watts volts amps.
I found a similar thing
I have this weird anomaly on iPad where the “Submit Request” button doesn’t appear. I know I figured it out last time I did this but right now I am drawing a blank.
everything is good, only one problem, I have something like that, no matter which option I choose, I have "your api is not subscribed" everywhere. I have tried literally all options from the internet in no way I can get the key. I omit the fact that I do not have such an option as "Smart Home Management System". The project itself is set the same as in your movie, including selected APIs. Maybe you can help me somehow, because my hands are dropping.
dommage qu'après 1 mois tout les accès son bloqué et impossible d'avoir le key d'un nouvel appareil...
when i write down the device_id to the explorer this messege shows.
"msg": "No permissions. Your subscription to cloud development plan has expired.",
can i get the key without paying the subscription? ? is there another way? 😵😵
Any solution for this error that occurs when entering the local key... "Connection to device succeeded but no datapoints found". Yours is the first video I've found that mentions data points, is there a way to edit or correct them if this is the cause of the error?
Solution for "No permissions. Your subscription to cloud development plan has expired":
-Click on cloud
- open your Project
- Service API
- IoT Core --> View Details
then extend trail period --> fill in the information
DONE!
:)
What happen if you loose internet access but still able to browse the internal WIFI? Would it still work? Your response is highly appreciated
It will work without the internet, with Tuya local. But it must be connected to the internet and a Tuya server to get the local key initially, but once you have the key you don’t need internet
As other, trial is expired so I get a permission denied...😓
When I follow all your steps, and go to 'Get Device Details', paste device id, and click 'Submit Request' , I do not get the local key as depicted in the video. Instead, I get 'Request URL' and 'Response'. What am I missing here?
Hi Mike, I checked if it was working, and it didn't work the first time but did work after a few minutes, it could be internet traffic issues being the data centre may be in central europe somewhere?? In addition to that, check you are at the right data centre there are 6 to try, check the device is online at the device list in the project, and try a different browser some have said that it won't work on an ipad. Hope that helps.
@@SparkyJames thanks Jimmy. I got it to work. A restart and it was good to go. Great tutorial
No permissions. Your subscription to cloud development plan has expired.
What do I do with this error?
you renew it, i think the licence is only valid for 6 months, very silly
Tuya iot platform options have changed the way we used to scan and connect to the tuya mobile app! Now it shows to connect with a Smart industry app and devices are not available in that app. Anyone has figured out the new app?
I have tried it recently with the tuya smart app and have had no problem.
Cool. I only have one device detected - the gateway. In iot tuya, only the gateway has the key. For other devices "local_key": "",. What could it be?
The Tuya gateway is for Zigbee devices? Probably? The local key is only used for Tuya wifi devices. The individual zigbee devices can be connected directly using a gateway compatible with home assistant like but not limited to the skyconnect.
I am getting the error message "Your IP don't have access to this API
No local key here for me :(
Can't seem to link it JJ, is this to do with the new bans they have placed on the site?
I just went and checked it, it's still working where I'm in Perth. Did you try link each of the 6 data centres? If the first one didn't work?
@@SparkyJames Yes apparently a new thing came in November last year. I read they updated the policy of the account so hackers could not malice change things on your devices. I will do some more research. Maybe anyone whose account started before that date is secure. New Accounts the new policy is applied to.
@@SparkyJames Finally got it, unsure why it caused so much issues. I unlinked alot of stuff then it seemed to work properly. Unsure what I did wrong. But now have it all connected. thanks again for the informative video.
Yes that is a good point, there is a limit on how many devices you can have linked to a project I think it’s 8, once you have the key you don’t need the devices linked though
is this local key static, or it changes?
I thought it would be static, but it’s not they seem to change sometimes
can local tuya work for zigbee devices?
No it’s just wifi devices, I haven’t used zigbee much, but I heard the con bee USB zigbee gateway is very good and will get almost any zigbee device working with home assistant in no time at all.
why my local key and ip is " "?
I cant get this to work, it says “permission deny” after I submit the ID
Above the get device details section where you enter device id, change the data centre, there are 6 to try, it says permission deny if that is not right, also there is a limit to the number of device that can be linked for to the project once you have the local key you can unlink devices, to make room for new ones.
@@SparkyJames I only have one device but i'll try changing that server thing today. Thanks for the quick reply!
This doesnt work anymore, tuya is not letting you access the API calls anymore from within the dev plattform
Video starts at @5:00
What if my Tuya cloud free trial is expired? I don't seem to be able to do this. "INVALID_TOKEN"
I find that Zigbee devices connected to the same gateway share the same "local_key". Each unit WIFI connection has a unique "local_key".
Thanks, for the info itsthemetho, I haven’t really got into zigbee. Just wifi and z wave. I do have a few, Zigbee sensors I was going to play with, just need to get a gateway.
i get "code": 2009,
"msg": "not support this device",
