Jeff I podiumed my first ever race, your tips are so helpful- I especially appreciated tips on making up wheels when people are freewheeling and why it’s sometimes better to be up near the front to stay out of the washing machine.
Long time listener possibly first time caller. It amazes me that Will can move up so efficiently. I use these same tactics in my cat 4 crits. In my head I'm thinking I watch these videos and the other racers don't. I'm moving up because I'm a little wiser and they might be new to racing. (I've only been racing for about a 1.5 years). I would assume the pro field has the same mentality and experience as Will to use the same tactics to move up. How is Will able move up so easily if everyone is at the same level and doing the same thing?
fitness levels are one thing, wills up there which is obvious by his FINISHING versus 100 guys dnfing lol also mentally being in there, a lot of guys are just mentally "here to hang on as best they can" because they dont think they can salvage anything. you need to have that switch flipped that says im gonna work a little bit harder because its what i need to do despite it being really hard
Very likely they are insured as well, so if they crash and something breaks, it's no bigge. I have my 3k road bike insured, just in case. You never know when you might skid that corner or hit a loose rock on the ground.
My big worry is being able to slot back in without dive bombing a corner. I'm probably overly cautious but I'd hate to be the one that crashes out the field in a corner I tried to move too far up in... any tips?

Great video man, but please delete the bot comments.
If you do more come back
The number of riders on this course gives me severe anxiety.
Are all crit racers rich? If not, how are they willing to throw around $8,000 bikes in crashy situations without crippling anxiety?
You just can't focus on it because you won't crash, mostly
@@wertyboy8704 "mostly" doing some heavy lifting haha
This is what those bikes are designed to do, it’s more a shame when people don’t use cool race bikes to their potential imo lol
