Hi, This is the very time listening to your channel. As a naturalized US citizen soon to be retiring , this topic is very informative and timely for me to explore. Thank you for the clear and concise presentation. One 'minor' thing as an after-thought is the logistics involved when travelling , for example to the Phil. What does having 2 passports in my possession mean when I present myself to customs and immigration? Do I expect both passports to be inspected and stamped for example?
Hi, Dual citizen here who travel in and out of the Ph quite often. I was advised TWICE by Ph immigration po to ALWAYS show both passports when leaving and entering the Ph. I was advised NOT to go through e-gates. Both of our passports will be stamped po kasi.
A couple of years ago, I was in Philippine Consulate in Houston, Texas. Kuya Bong that works there was asking me questions about my parents. He respectfully said “rather if you like it or not, you’re automatically a Pilipino citizen by birth” kasi my Tatay is Pilipino and wasn’t an American citizen when I was born in the U.S., my mother is an American white woman. It took some time to gather all the necessary documents from my parents and after going back in forth with the Philippine Consulate in Chicago (due to jurisdiction, I was born in Kansas City, Missouri) I finally got my dual citizenship approved about a month ago. There’s 3 major benefits for having it; Isa, being able to own land/ property Dalawa, being able to do business Tatlo, traveling to Vietnam without having to apply for a visa. Good video and information. Ingat 🙏🏼❤️🇵🇭

Hi Jennifer, I'm a Fil-Am from Los Angeles, born in Cebu Philippines and I'm very interested in dual citizenship. Thanks for the information. Take care
When I claimed my Filipino citizenship by birth, the local Philippine Consulate required me to obtain a Certificate of No Record from the PSA. This meant requesting a birth certificate from the PSA to affirm the obvious and why I had to fill out the paperwork in the first place-that my parents had never reported my U.S. birth in all my 30+ years of life. The resulting negative document had to be submitted along with my other documents. I couldn’t find this requirement on any government website, but I complied and spent the extra time and money. Thankfully, after 30+ years, I was able to officially claim my Filipino citizenship. Just a heads up for anyone already requesting documents from PSA to also request for this to save time and money.
@ I couldn’t find this extra step listed anywhere but had to comply since that’s what my local Consulate requested. Since I was no longer in the Philippines, I had to pay about $75 USD for the document and courier fees. The documents took another few weeks to arrive. If I had known ahead of time when I was in the Philippines about this requirement it only would have cost P300 or so and I probably would have been able to pick it up on the spot. Even if it’s not requested by other Consulates, P300 vs $75 is a big difference.
@ agreed! Just sharing a time and cost-saving tip based on my own experience. If you’re already requesting your parents’ documents from PSA, also request a copy of your birth certificate to save time and money. As a foreign-born Filipino whose parents never reported your birth, you’ll receive a negative result. This step may or may not be requested by your local Consulate but I had to pay up for this oversight. Yun lang ang advice ko.

I am an American, living in the Philippines with SRRV expanded Courtesy visa. My daughter is 4 yr old and born here in Philippines she has both passports US/Filipinas. We have to register her through Department of Justice for her to become dual citizen without limits through Intramuros Immigration.
Since I applied and acquired my dual citizenship, I have not experienced anything negative about it as of yet (5 years now.) Unrestricted traveling, coming and going as I please from the US and Philippines at any given time or duration have been flawless. I do not pay exit tax at the airports (due to US passport holding,) do not need travel or extended stay visas, I even own my own home and lot outright. I do not rely in a marriage to be here in this country to do legal things. I do not have to deal with Immigration in either country. So why do you live in Canada if you are that proud to be Filipino? I was born in the Philippines but have lived in the US most of my life. I have dual citizenship. So much better to have both.
Born in Manila over 60 yrs ago to a mother and father who were both Chinese as recorded on my PH birth Certificate. Father died and mother became a Naturalised PH citizen as did I at 14 yrs of age and have official I.D. documents to prove this. With my full PH passport I moved to UK and married a UK citizen and became a UK citizen and passport holder. My husband died after our divorce several years later. I have been refused Dual citizenship with PH /UK by the BOI in Manila as both my parents were chinese at my birth. Im agrieved.! I was a PH citizen but not anymore.?( and have never been to China)
Short answer is you are really Chinese. You were naturalized Filipino at 14 but you’ve lost that status when you chose to become UK citizen. You can’t be a dual citizen with the Philippines because you’re a Chinese citizen at birth. There’s nothing there for you to re-acquire as Filipino as you’re not a Filipino in the first place. You’ve lost that naturalized status long time ago.
@@One_Cebuagree my mom is the same exact situation… born in the philippines to 2 “Chinese” parents, got a naturalization certificate but became an american citizen and again she was denied a dual citizenship despite both parents being born in the philippines as well. she was born and raised in the PI but now cant even stay in the PI longer than 30 days
And here I thought having a birth cert in the Philippines makes you a naturalized citizen regardless of heritage, like a golden ticket to dually. I guess the laws can be squirrely. I'm hoping you consulted a Filipino immigration lawyer for clarity.
A dual U.S.-Filipino citizen with a Philippine Certificate of Dual Citizenship can stay in the Philippines indefinitely. The certificate proves their Filipino citizenship, even if they do not have a Philippine passport. My advice to other Filipino Dual Citizens is to avoid getting a Philippines Passport...if you want to save money. Again, The certificate proves their Filipino citizenship, this is good enough already.
1 biggest benefit , that I use it for, in having a Filipino passport is visa-free access/travel to neighboring Asian countries. So it is worth it for me to have a PP. A weekend trip is simple without having to go through the complex and time-consuming application process for a tourist or entry visa to a participating country each time I go on a short trip from the Philippines. Outside of that, you are correct, PP is optional and not required.

Hi Jennifer, I was born in the Phil, but my parents were both US citizens when I was born.. I guess I won't be qualified for a dual citizenship, not even as a balikbayan. Am I right Jennifer. Thankyou.😢
Jennifer, could you re-check the alotted land a former Filipino can own. I see that the limits are 1000 square meters for urban residential property,1 hectare for rural residential property. Furthermore R.A 8179 adds that a former Filipino can own 5000 square meters for urban commercial property and 3 hectares for rural commericial property. So there is allotment limits for residential vs business/commercial property that a former Filipino can own.
Jennifer, my question is they were convincing me to have a dual citizenship but to do that I want to stay over in the Philippines for 6-7 months because of the weather and if I convinced on that time frame can I apply for my dual citizenship before coming back to the USA?
YOu can apply here in the Oh or there in the US. If you are near Manila and want to just go and move to Ph, you can do it here. It takes longer but easy to get appointment. In the US, Embassies process it much faster but getting an appointment is hard. Visit your local embassy website for the appointment.
@@JenniferTerriinteresting subject. I experienced that is troublesome. I hope you can clarify for me. Do you have anything in writing that senior foreigners are not entitled to senior discount. Appreciate your reply and salamat po for what you do. Take care.

Please clarify, you first said Julies parents were Filipinos at the time of her birth, then your second statement said neither parents were Filipinos at the time of her birth.Which one of the statements is true?
julie can still claim her filipino citizenship because she has a filipino blood.. her parents were former filipino even though they're US citizen at the time of her birth.. the Philippines follows the principle of jus sanguinis (right of blood) to determine citizenship..
My wife and I were Filipinos when we moved to the US. My sons were born in the US hence are US citizens. My son petitioned us and became green card holders and eventually US naturalized. Are my sons dual citizens?
I am a Pilipina with dual citizenship---you state that I am limited in the amount of land I can acquire when I return to the Philippines to retire--1Hectare??? Why am I limited if I am a philippine citizen
When entering/leaving Philippines, does both passports get stamped? Also, are there any exit requirements/fees a dual citizen needs to be aware of? TIA
Yes, if you have both passports, they both must be presented and stamped. If you have just your foreign (US?) passport only, then it must be accompanied by your dual citizen documents/certificate you would have received when you acquired it. 2 passports are not necessary to enter and exit. You are not required to pay the Philippine exit fee with dual citizenship status. But if you stay longer than 6 months, you must fill out an exit document. This is to clear you of any crimes or warrants wanted by local authorities. Free of cost and simple to fill. This is just knowledge of my own experiences traveling in and out of the Philippines. Lastly, if you arrive in the Philippines and there are 2 immigration lines, 1 for Filipino PP holders and the other for Foreign PP holders, always go to the foreign one. You may find yourself in line for hours just to be told you are in the wrong line and now start over.

i would like to know about the answer to this as well cause i know that if you stay longer than 30 days in the PI, pension in the US will be discontinued. it happened with my aunt. and my mom was warned by ssa that she cannot stay longer than 30 days outside of the country

I was born in the PHILIPPINES with Mother US Citizen and Father Filipino citizen, left Philippines as a young child and US citizen due to my Mom as US born. We were issued US passport from the Philippines. Can I apply for Dual Citizenship? If so how do I apply? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
I can offer some insights from my experience. It seems you do qualify, assuming you meet the age requirement, which I do not know. You need a birth Certificate from PSA (It can be ordered on line and mailed to you in the US,) at least 1 natural born parent with proof (their Birth cert., local Philippine ID like a passport, etc.), and an application from your nearest Philippine Embassy. Some embassies offer outreach programs, visit the website for your nearest embassy/consulate ofc for details on that. Example, you may live in Illinois and your nearest embassy might be NY. No need to travel if they will be nearby for a weekend on their outreach program. Personally, my nearest embassy is LA, I lived in Las Vegas...they actually visit twice a year in Las Vegas to provide their services remotely. Even though LA isn't far from me, still a savings for me. 🙂 Good luck in your process!
yes you can, you are a natural born filipino because you were born in the ph with a filipino blood.. the philippines do not require you to renounce your us citizenship when you claim your filipino citizenship..
My Filipino wife and I were told at the tax assessors office that a citizen can only have a total of 5 hectors titled in their name anything above that would need to be titled in one of our children's name. Any comments?

I'm a retired Machinist's Union Representative for Pearl Habor Naval Shipyard. I used to represent workers with security clearance problems. If you had dual citizenship for any county you will not get hired into a civilian federal job that requires a secret clearance.
For sure! Any US job requiring security clearance will disqualify you if the background check returns multiple citizenships. I got turned down for air traffic control and VA clinic jobs.
I am US Born to Filipino parents. They were green card holders at the time I born, not US citizens yet. Does that make me ineligible for a dual citizenship?
Ms Terry which country is allowed for dual citizenship? My son before has dual citizenship Indian/ Filipino but when I want to renew his Phil passport consulate did not allow that was 4 years back
My son was born in the US but both me and my spouse were both immigrant to the US at the time of his birth. Later we both became US citizen, can my son apply for dual citizenship?
If you did not report the birth of your son to the Philippine consulate with jurisdiction at the time of his birth, then you'll need to submit a "report of birth" for him to be recognized. Good luck.
@@jangiyadwa689 You can look up the requirements with the consulate having jurisdiction of the state of your child's birth. Multiple factors come into play on the " report of birth", which is why I defer to the consulate. Birth certificate of both parents, citizenship status of parents, marriage status of parents, etc.
need po ba ipresent Philippine passport and the other passport pag papasok ng Philippines? dapat po ba ipresent ang Philippine passport and the other passport pag lalabas ng Philippines?
I have dual citizenship, but I am not able to get a Philippine passport, because I got married in the States...and the consulate requires me to get a marriage certificate from the Philippines , to be able to obtain a Philippine passport...why is this? I still have my expired Philippine passport...but the consulate does not accept this. When I travelled to the Philippines, I used my US passport.
I suspect due to the laws in the Philippines regarding marriages. It is illegal to get a divorce, for example, in the Philippines. So, If you are married , but do not fall under Philippine jurisdiction (as in married in the US), then would that law apply if you were not married in the Philippines? Your foreign marriage will not be recognized in back ground checks conducted by local Philippine authorities. So it will appear as if you were single. This would tentatively allow you to marry again with a Filipina while still being married with a US spouse. I'm just speculating, and have no idea.... I'm interested in the outcome as to why yours is held up.

Ang tanong po, ang minor child ba ay dual citizen na or hindi pa? At kailangan paba i-reacquire nya ang filipino citizen thru applying for dual citizenship?
Oh, I'm an american that was married to a pinay for 18 years. Everything i buy i buy in my childrens name. Inheritance for them safety for me.
Sounds like a match made in heaven.....true love is having sex and making sure she can't get to the money. You're a real winner
Interesting insight, I like it !
Good for you. Better that way coz unfortunately some pinay took advantage of their foreign husband.
@@troymagnumwho doesn't like free money?!?
John, Thank you so much for your donations to the Philippines. Please tell all foreigners to donate all their money to the Philippines.
Hi Jennifer, I was born in the Phil, but my parents were both US citizens when I was born.. I guess I won't be qualified for a dual citizenship, not even as a balikbayan. Am I right Jennifer. Thankyou.😢
not exactly are you over 18? they can claim u as a pinoy born abroad.
i get to use either passport to a country that doesnt require a visa
Hello Jennifer Terri God Bless You All More Blessing Take Care Always Day and Night Enjoy your day ....
Thanks Jennifer
Jennifer, my question is they were convincing me to have a dual citizenship but to do that I want to stay over in the Philippines for 6-7 months because of the weather and if I convinced on that time frame can I apply for my dual citizenship before coming back to the USA?
YOu can apply here in the Oh or there in the US. If you are near Manila and want to just go and move to Ph, you can do it here. It takes longer but easy to get appointment. In the US, Embassies process it much faster but getting an appointment is hard. Visit your local embassy website for the appointment.
Jennifer, please do a video on senior citizen discuunt. There is big misunderstanding on this. Especially among foreibners.
Hi, Liam. What is the misunderstanding? Foreigners are not covered by the seniors discount.
@@JenniferTerrii know that it applies to resident Filipinos only. But many dont. See the comments.
@@JenniferTerriinteresting subject. I experienced that is troublesome. I hope you can clarify for me. Do you have anything in writing that senior foreigners are not entitled to senior discount. Appreciate your reply and salamat po for what you do. Take care.
Dear jen you are getting better looking every day . What is your secret 🥰
salamat po
the way the leadership there thinks. shows they base everything from fear not from how can the country and economy thrive.

Tax implications while a Dual citizenship in canada should be noted and vice versa.
Do u have the senior citizen card and booklet?
@ first time I’ve seen someone share this information regarding dual citizenship; truly grateful for this information!
Is my SSS pension not affected if I'm a dual citizen? And my SSS pension in the Philippines, too? Thank you ! You didn't mention it in your video, I hope you can say something about the SSS pension in the U.S. and in the Philippines, too on y9ur next video ! Thank you very much !!
i would like to know about the answer to this as well cause i know that if you stay longer than 30 days in the PI, pension in the US will be discontinued. it happened with my aunt. and my mom was warned by ssa that she cannot stay longer than 30 days outside of the country
Hello. Pwede ba mag aral ang anak ko sa pinas na dito pinanganak sa US o kailangan ng student visa?
Still trying to obtain my PH Passport. Completed my report of birth and have my PSA birth certificate. Now my PH passport application is being withheld when I had followed up with my parents’ naturalization paperwork. Note: they were PH citizens at the time of my birth 🙂 why oh why..
PH passport office dont hold as many passport records as you may think.........very poor service from Govt dept.
@ sounds like I may have the escalate this to a consul general vs. an inbox belonging to a passport section.
Jennifer. This your father.Received urgent letter from Strathfield Family Medical Centre for you to contact them.
My husband and I are both US citizen when our children were born in US. Can they be qualified for Dual Citizen?
Thank you❤
What if some Filipino decided to apply to their dual citizenship after 20 years? Still that ok? There’s no any conflict or problem?
no problem :) as long as they have their old ph passport
Hi Jenny, I have been watching your videos which are very useful and informative content. I wanted to ask on how to apply Phihealth whilst I'm in the UK. I'm already a dual citizen. Thank you in advance.
You have to apply in Barangay or city hall of your province or where you live, under OSCA, bring your birth certificate, Philippine ID, address in the Philippines.
You should visit in person face to face, not while in UK. You cannot send someone to represent you. Just a suggestion.
Where do you buy gluthatione?
Thank you po
I studied in the Philippines so getting dual citizenship was necessary (don't have to go out of the country every 6 months).
Ano ba ang mga kailangan kung mag aaply ka ng Dual citizen gusto ko rin sana but I'm not good in computer..
With Balikbayan visa, can we come in and go out(visit SEAsia) without problem?
My Filipino wife and I were told at the tax assessors office that a citizen can only have a total of 5 hectors titled in their name anything above that would need to be titled in one of our children's name. Any comments?
no limit to land ownership for Filipino citizens. Perhaps your wife is a former Filipino?
We became naturalized Canadians in 2019 then had one more child in 2021. Can we adopt her as Pinoy after we reacquire our citizenship?
Hello Jennifer, I am a dual citizen and just applied for Philippine passport - do I have to pay travel tax if I use PP to return to the US? Do I also pay travel tax if I travel from Philippines to another countries, like Vietnam. Thank and God Bless you
Pls explain all the paper work the immigration needed to enter the Philippines even if you are a Filipino citizen living abroad
My son before has dual citizenship Indian/ Filipino but when I want to renew his Phil passport consulate did not allow that was 4 years back
Does one declare cellphones when going home? I am planning to bring two; one for Smart and one for Globe. Thanks.

Good luck.
@@texroy1644what are the requirements po kung mag report of birth?
@@jangiyadwa689 You can look up the requirements with the consulate having jurisdiction of the state of your child's birth. Multiple factors come into play on the " report of birth", which is why I defer to the consulate. Birth certificate of both parents, citizenship status of parents, marriage status of parents, etc.
@ Thanks Sir.I’ll check their website.God bless!
need po ba ipresent Philippine passport and the other passport pag papasok ng Philippines?
dapat po ba ipresent ang Philippine passport and the other passport pag lalabas ng Philippines?
dual citizen pwde po ba bumoto kung mgpapa registration naman kung saan nkatira.
Hi miss jen, are foreigners still need e travel registration to arrive in NAIA for this February 2025 ?
yes still needed. constant na po yan.
