MODS - These are the mod descriptions I was given by nik in our emails.
LNFB Switches - The LNFB Switch allows you to turn the local negative feedback on and off for V1, just like the Steel String Singer. With it off, the sounds a bit louder/ raw.
Reverb Treble Bleed Mod - The treble bleed is for the reverb control. Original JM uses a big cap there, making the amp darker, and reverb less lively. The mod is a 3 way, so you can have our value, original, and somewhere in the middle.
NFB Mod - As for the NFB, it changes the negative feedback resistance value, so you can have stock, lower NFB, and then no NFB as well. NFB can affect the gain, as well as a bit of frequency response. It will be good to make it a bit more wilder sounding, as opposed to a cleanish, darker amp, as is.
Gain Mod - As for the gain mod, the JM original ckt dumps quite some signal early in the preamp. This mod allows you reduce this dump, making the amp gainier/ louder.

Having a hard enough time coming up with a King Tone Blues Power. I'll be ordering next week. It's the best pedal I've ever heard! The Ceriatone JM 100, at over $3,000 for the head, is only a pipe dream!

Hey man, don’t be! I just found that a bit more headroom really helps for what I like but 50 watts compared to 100 isn’t really a massive difference in headroom. I know plenty of people who play the jm50 and love it. Happy new year!!

I own the OTS50, which was my replacement choice for a CRS100/50 that I sold, I love it so much but missed the 100 watt headroom and so after watching your demo I ordered a JM100 with the same mods as yours, thanks!

I had Nik build me an HRM 50 modified to run el34's and with a Plexi OT instead. I run kt77's. Its the bastard child of a hot rodded Plexi and Fender. Also has a negative feedback switch.

@@tastee_licks_thomas I've been looking in to either to JM 50 or the SSS 50. I definitely look to Mayer for a lot of inspiration when it comes to tone, but I'm a bit conflicted with these 2 amps. I read the the JM 50/100 is supposed to be a sort of clone of his signature amp (im assuming his two rock custom reverb) but he's also really known for using his steel string singer, even today, which as far as I know the SSS 50/100 is based off of. So im not sure which I should be going for.
@@CalChristiansen03 in my personal opinion and from what Nik at Ceriatone has told me, the SSS amps are a more on the side of SRV, very hard hitting and clean and powerful, where as the jm in its stock setting has a bit of give in it, which mayer is also pretty known for.
The thing that makes the jm50 better IMO is that if you get the gain mod that Nik has (as well as the others) you can make the jm sound like the sss (not the same, but a very similar flavour), where as the sss is kind of just what it is
The jm sounds much more mayer to me than the sss, hope this helped!!!
I like the OTS 50, because you can get the Mayer, SRV cleans and the Ford light break up.

Oh man, I feel like an idiot, I should have read the title! Thanks man lol. One other thing though, do you know anything about their bass jumper mods? Keep hearing about them but can’t find anything online as to what it actually is/does

i don't know what happened but maybe since JM was with the Dead &Co...but there are WAY MORE John Mayer Clones on youtube playing pretty awesome strat leads haha. in my day john mayer was pussy music and people didn't brag or boast about learning guitar stuff from his music influence. unless it was to impress ladies . that always was a plus..BUT in general people are way more cool with being male john mayer fans theses days ..Great playing mate!

What are your favorite positions for the switches?
So the mid boost and bright switches I don’t really use, the deep switch is awesome for at home but it does get a bit muddy when playing with a band. The gain mod I almost always leave on the original lowest setting, although it’s good to have the options for a more punchy SRV type sound. The reverb I like as bright as it can be as it’s already quite dark, and as for the nfb and lnfb switches I can’t remember exactly but it’s the 2nd most bass-e one lol. Hope that helps!

Honestly in its stock settings it’s not that loud even at 100 watts, I think it works well at low volumes, but to make it really sound great it’s gotta be turned up a bit, much like most tube amps, but even with the master on 5-7 it’s not ear destructive! Hope that helps! Planning on doing a second video on this amp at some point!

What are you usually running the bass at? I rarely can get it above 1 😅 Is this just the cab I'm running or is it the amp itself?

Also make sure you don’t have the deep switch in as well, if I run the deep switch (mostly at home) I’ll turn the bass down to like 5-6

What amps did you come from before this? I have a deluxe reverb. Will this blow it away ya think? It's hard to tell in videos. I'm so close to pulling the trigger on this amp
My first valve amp was a Marshall dsl15, eventually sold that to buy a fender supersonic 60, (kind of similar to a DR) which I still have :)
When I got this it was a completely different beast! Can guarantee you’d be happy with one for sure!

Sweet amp! Did you have the Vertex SteelString on during the whole demo?
Is there a reason for using the Vertex SS pedal as a always on? Doesn’t take the edge away from the amp? I like the compression of the Vertex but I found that it lacks top end. I haven’t tried it with a JM100 though.
Hey Tobias thanks! Yea I left it on for the demo, in hindsight I probably should have turned it off but I genuinely think the amp sounds better with it on, which isn’t to say it sounds bad with it off, but it’s not a colossal difference. I run my SS with the tone/filter all the way up and It does lose a touch of top end but it’s the stuff when you crank it that you don’t want anyway. Both for your hearing and when on a record.
It’s partly the compression but I also think it pushes the amp slightly but doesn’t change the characteristic of the amp, both the amp and pedal are very full range sounds, I just think the ss has a nice slight mid hump that makes it stand out a bit sweeter. That answer was a bit all over the place so Let me know if I can help further!
How does it sound at low home levels?
Honestly man really good! It doesn’t have as much sustain and lacks a little high end but I find you only miss it when you’ve had it loud and turned it down! Thanks for watching!

I had the 50 watt for a bit. I’m mad I let it go and think I’m going to order one soon. Mine had 3 of these 4 mods, just not the LNFB. Does that switch add more NFB or take it away? If anything I think I’d want less to add a bit more attack on the front of the notes. I thought of it as the best, ballsiest Fender black panel I’d ever played

Hey man, thanks! All the pedals I use in the video are all labelled just before I start playing! The vertex steel string is on the whole time, And I use the jhs bonsai a few times, and I briefly use the king tone blues power! Cheers for checking out the video!

Bout to pick one of these up, nik recommended me a 50w for bedroom levels but for someone who wants to gig in the future is the 100w head playable at low volumes without having me neighbours raid my house?
Hey man! Jm is the go!!!
There’s a few things to consider!
1 if you have an ox box or a captor, get the 100 watt!
2 if you don’t and it’s for mostly playing in your bedroom probably the 50 is fine, if you play small pubs or clubs than again 50 but if you play bigger areas 100 is the go IMO.
3 if you want the srv sound most of the time it has to be turned up so 50 would be easier
4 if you want clean clean clean, 100 is much better!
5 whatever you do, get ALL THE MODS, they help shape the amp so much and give it so many new sounds!
It’s not a super loud 100 watts, i can have it in the stock gain setting and have the master at 5 without it hurting my ears, but if you turn the gain mod switch up it pushes volume quite dramatically
I think it sounds good at lower volumes, but definitely opens up towards the 5 ish range.
I spent way to long hesitating about which one to get but whichever you do get you will be happy 100%! I’m planning a 2nd video on this amp and I’ll address some of these questions! Hope this helped!!
