This makes me wonder more than ever if Torna the Golden Country was ever eligible for GOTY. It's DLC for Xenoblade 2, but it was also released as its own standalone game, with a physical version and everything.

Which was the point I stopped caring about these awards. Some where deserved but it wasn’t GOTY material anyway you sliced it. The entire third act was a mess and parts just didn't work. There were better contenders.
Pretty disappointed with Arlo’s extremely one note and biased acceptance of Elden ring dlc nominated for multiple game awards including goty as “I liked this, and it’s big as a game so why not”.
I am predicting that •Neither Balatro nor Astro Bot will win Game of the Year •Balatro will win more awards than Astro Bot •Animal Well will win best debut indie, mostly because it's apparently really good, plus a bit of Dunkey's street cred •There will be at least six random celebrity guests which have nothing to do with gaming •The winner of Best Family Game will be rushed off stage after 60 seconds _at best._ •Nintendo will not announce Nintendo Switch 2. They may announce they day they will announce it, though. •Statler and Waldorf will tell Geoff Keighley to wrap it up
I really hope they learn to stop it with the celebrities. Just makes gaming continue to look as something that can't stand on it's own. But they never learn.
As someone who loves EoW a lot, best family game doesn’t sound like the most fitting category so I agree, the action/adventure one makes more sense if it would get anything, for family game from what I’ve seen of Astro Bot that would make much more sense to win. I hope Metroid Prime 4 wins most anticipated as that’s easily the game I am most interested in on the list fingers crossed 🤞
Prince of Persia the Lost Crown should win best action/adventure game. The developers at Ubisoft Montpellier deserve their flowers for making an amazing metroidvania that was criminally overlooked.
idk i think nintendo didn’t have a single game that was worthy of “game of the year” this year. idk why the fans are upset about EOW and M&L not being nominated. neither deserve it.

@@cwega2463 Yeah, I confused when it came out. The year kind of flew by me. Totally deserved a win, but makes it even more ridiculous to actually expect anything to get a GOTY nomination.
I think DLC should have their own category because that's a touchy subject. On the one hand DLC has started to become more than just a cosmetic expansion, and for some games you need to buy the DLC just to basically finish the game that doesn't happen as much but it has happened before. But on the other hand, you still need to buy the original game to use the DLC effectively not making it it's own original game. I think games getting big DLC has become common enough that DLC could get it's own nomination. Same with remasters and remakes, I think they should get their own category too.
I can't believe ppl actually watch TGA for the awards. I thought we were all there for the game announcements lol But anyways Astro GOTY and if not, def Family game.
There just happens to be a bunch of drama this time around because if SOTE wasn't nominated, then the award very likely would have gone to a more traditional JRPG for the first time in TGA history. But now that SOTE is nominated, that possibility was drastically reduced. There's still hope though since critics are still going crazy over Metaphor.

How do you even vote? They're such different games that succeed in extremely different things.
I don't care if the DLC is 900 billion hours long. If you have to buy another game, and progress to said game till endgame to access it, it should not be a nominee, period. Hate that argument that because it is long, is alright. I disagree with that take completely.
gonna be real, i genuinely think the ttyd remake should have gotten up there for best score. The way it basically DOUBLED the original ost and brought so much new light to it is astonishing and i am still salty about Origami King’s amazing dynamic sound track not getting recognized either i know goty is basically just a big AAA circle jerk most of the time but i am PASSIONATE about my stance on this specifically
I don’t think it’s a matter of size, it’s more that it’s not a standalone thing and requires you to purchase something else before you’re able to play it. There should be a separate category for expansions/dlc
When I went through the voting. I cried with tears of joy seeing so many Astro Nomiminations this year. I loved Astro growing up on playstation/nintendo family. So of course I voted for Astro whenever he popped up. :)
What's really messed up about the dlc being allowed for goty thing is that it really was an exception made JUST for Elden Ring, the dlc for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 for instance which is also basically a whole complete game too and was basically a masterpiece got completely ignored
@@JoelGarcia-lu3tw it is not that long if you're playing effectively and even if it was if fromsoft tried releasing a sequel to fucking Elden Ring that was only that long the entire internet would decry it as a scam and failure. Astro bot for the win. Also DLC should never be GOTY I don’t care how big it is when you have to buy the base game and SOET didn’t change the gameplay loop and was mostly empty and didn’t add to the lore that much. The reviews were mixed anyway. It would definitely not work as its own game, people would said it was underwhelming if they sold it as its own game.
This argument over whether DLC should be eligible for 'game of the year ' seems kind of pointless to me. Who honestly even takes TGA's results seriously enough for it to actually matter? It's just another blurb to add to the game's advertising to get more folks to buy it.
I personally see the "family" category as a game you can play with your family, so Jamboree is absolutely the logical winner for me personally. Like, a one player game winning that just feels silly
if you need to buy a separate piece of Software to even launch the game, then is DLC, no matter how much content you put on it Shadow of the Erdtree is not Elden Ring 2 the sequel to Elden Ring this also applies to Shadow Generations, Bowser's Fury, Octo Expansion & Side Order
Best soundtrack 100% goes to FF7Rebirth. It has 200+ songs in its OST and all of them are amazing, it’s kind of a joke to let anyone else win that category.
Everyone that rags on the game awards for being pointless and being a giant ad and all that are missing the point. For better or worse, award shows legitimize an industry. No one took film seriously until they had a big award show. I believe it was the golden globes that came first. And then the Oscars. Even stuff like _science_ gain some major recognition with the general public when they started handing out awards. The average person didn't even know about anything going on the sciences, much less cared about any of it, until people started winning Nobel prizes. And then suddenly people like Einstein become household names. People who know nothing about gaming will look at the games industry and think little to nothing of it. They'll say something "oh it's just a bunch of sad nerds playing games in there mom's basement." and never give it another thought. But if they catch a clip of the game awards and see what a major production it is, on top of the fact the industry is big enough and serious enough to have such a massive award ceremony in the first place, then they might give the gaming industry some more consideration, which is always a good thing. Yes, the game awards is just the industry patting itself on the back. All industry awards shows are. But they need to exist to give the general public something to gawk at and think "damn, this must be a pretty serious thing if they're doing all this for it." Award shows are a necessary evil.
Not necessarily, they might just have heard people talking about it and dislike the event from that. Or maybe they watched it once but stopped because they hated it. You don’t know the full story.
Metroid Prime 4 Beyond in my heart is the winner of most anticipated game, just the wait and build up since Metroid Prime 3 alone is enough, but yeah, I realize Metroid isn't really for everyone and it being a Nintendo exclusive causes dismissal from most people too.
The only award i see Nintendo possibly taking home would be the "Best Family" award with Mario Party. Also bad take with Elden Ring, DLC should have it's own category or two. I really don't know how it hasn't already.
sadly, the only Award that matters got relegated to Pre-Show filler don't let Pekora dominating the VGA distract you from the fact that she bought a Funky Monkey!
I'm honestly appalled that Pokemon TCG Pocket is in the running for anything. It's just a transparently predatory booster pack simulator. So much more focus is placed on pack opening and the wonder pick thing (of course the 2 money making actions) that the actual game itself just felt like a side activity to force more dailies on you.
I think to enjoy the Game Awards one has to choose to just turn off your brain, and let the celebration of games wash over you. Also rooting for a game in certain categories keeps it interesting! You have to watch it with the same skepticism one would watch EGOT awardS - in reality it’s like the IGN or any other individual outlet saying something is their favorite - but our whiney baby boy demographic gets specifically upset over nominations no matter what. Not that there are zero problems, I think that each each year has had varying levels of success.
Im taking this with the same attitude as you lol. Every year everyone talks about how stupid the whole thing is, and how meaningless it is. And it absolutely is. But every year, those same people take it super seriously, and it's just kinda funny to me. At this point I just take it at face value, maybe there's a cool reveal, and that's why I watch. But I gotta admit it's funny seeing people get way too absorbed in it.
I dont care how "big" it is, if a "game" requires you to own and play through a significant amount of a game from a previous year it cannot be judged on its own and thus should not be nominated in a later year. The Elden Ring DLC should not be nominated, period.
Shadow of the Erdtree cannot be Elden Ring 2 The game's ludicrous difficulty depends on the player's knowledge gained from the base game If it were standalone, it would be a miserable experience for new players, those who've heard about how fantastic Elden Ring is and would think that this "sequel" would be a great place to start
I think Nintendo will probably take an L this year and not get any awards. They had few games, and have tough competition in the few categories they were nominated in. Makes sense, as they are clearly focusing on games for the switch 2.
Balatro sweep is incoming The game gets talked about by non-gamers. Kinda like the board game Wingspan non board gamers play that game and it gets sold at target. Never underestimate the casuals.
@ Not a pc player unfortunately. Also I highly doubt what’s there now will be the entirety of the game’s content on the official release day. They’re def gonna save stuff until then.
I don't know why it didn't get anything. Its one of the greatest games Nintendo has made, with a battle system that's simple that's also complex at the same time, and has a story that, while not as good as Super's, is phenomenal in what it does, the characters are enjoyable and it looks great with it's paper aesthetic. What did the others do better than it? I'm sure the others are good, but better than TTYD? One of the greatest RPG's ever? And it can't be no remakes because of FINAL FANTASY 7!
I feel like it's because TTYD is a remake. and not the silent hill 2/resident evil type of remake, but a remake that's completely faithful to the original game. so it's hard to judge it as a 2024 game. with that said, it 100% deserved a nomination in the best art direction category, because that's all new for the remake.
@@HippothePotamusThis was a stacked year for rpgs. Every time I see someone say, but what about this 2024 Nintendo game, I say have you actually played anything else this year? It doesn’t really compare to proper mature rpgs.

1:24 except not really because Xenoblade 3 Future Redeemed, an equal size massive DLC that's basically it's own game got no nominees last year, despite the original game even getting a game of the year contender, I'm sorry there is no excuse besides the fact that Elden Ring is more mainstream and they wanted to nominate it again, this is a clear cut case of popularity contest and they wanted an excuse to nominate Elden Ring again
Wasn't good enough, 2023 was too stacked. I can think of three things better than future redeemed just off the top of my head.
@JoelGarcia-lu3tw it's literally on the same scope as elden ring dlc and pleased basically all fans, just bc you didn't care for it doesn't make a difference bc it deserved to get nominees by the same logic as Elden ring DLC getting nominees, but didn't bc Elden ring is more popular and that's the sole reason for it

If I had to pick a Nintendo game this year that should’ve had some nominations, it’s Emio the Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club. At least for Best Narrative, Best Original Score, and Best Art Direction
Dlc should not take the spotlight from other new games. Elden ring has already gotten their praise.
If other studios cannot make better full game than fromsoftware dlc, they should ask themselves. "What are we even doing?" Honestly gaming community is brain dead. You guys are saying giving nomination to elden ring is unfair. restricting nomination of one of to best game of the year so that other inferior games can be nominated is fair?
@@hododod246 I think their point is that Elden ring already won GOTY.

I'm done with the Game Awards after how they treated TotK last year.
Arlo, Balatro isn't just being nominated for Best Indie, it's nominated for Game Of the Year lmao.
man slow year to be competing against rogue-like poker for the best game XD
This makes me wonder more than ever if Torna the Golden Country was ever eligible for GOTY. It's DLC for Xenoblade 2, but it was also released as its own standalone game, with a physical version and everything.
I want Balatro to win GOTY for the sheer chaos it'll cause
I think this will be a rare year with zero Nintendo winners. Astro Bot will be family game and Mario Party ain’t winning best Multiplayer. I think Zelda has the best chance, but the Action Adventure category is STACKED and I just don’t see it
My opinion on DLC being Game of the Year is If it's Not Stand Alone it Can't Stand Alone!
To be fair, Baldurs Gate 3 won 5 fricking awards including game of the year
Which was the point I stopped caring about these awards. Some where deserved but it wasn’t GOTY material anyway you sliced it. The entire third act was a mess and parts just didn't work. There were better contenders.
Sorry arlo, Elden ring DLC should not be on the game of the year ballot.
Pretty disappointed with Arlo’s extremely one note and biased acceptance of Elden ring dlc nominated for multiple game awards including goty as “I liked this, and it’s big as a game so why not”.
I am predicting that
•Neither Balatro nor Astro Bot will win Game of the Year
•Balatro will win more awards than Astro Bot
•Animal Well will win best debut indie, mostly because it's apparently really good, plus a bit of Dunkey's street cred
•There will be at least six random celebrity guests which have nothing to do with gaming
•The winner of Best Family Game will be rushed off stage after 60 seconds _at best._
•Nintendo will not announce Nintendo Switch 2. They may announce they day they will announce it, though.
•Statler and Waldorf will tell Geoff Keighley to wrap it up
I really hope they learn to stop it with the celebrities. Just makes gaming continue to look as something that can't stand on it's own. But they never learn.
Genuinely if anyone has to tell anyone to 'wrap it up' it should be Statler and Waldorf.
Have you forgotten that theres going to be a Stop Vaping ad??😭
@@aturchomicz821 Oh yeah, and it'll be disguised as a game trailer that looks half decent lol
This! The Lost Crown honestly could've been in the GOTY category bc it was just that good. I hope it gets something.
idk i think nintendo didn’t have a single game that was worthy of “game of the year” this year. idk why the fans are upset about EOW and M&L not being nominated. neither deserve it.
For some fans, those games being nominated (or winning) would validate their Nintendo bubble where they only play Nintendo games and nothing else is worthwhile.
@@thatdanjamesguy.330lmao exactly. the people who say “nintendo makes the best games and everyone else sucks” but don’t play anything besides nintendo games.
One of the only games of Nintendo I care about is Metroid. Nothing actually new this year, so I don't really care for Nintendo having no nominees. Hope MP4 is good enough to be nominated next year like Dread. They already got most of the Family award spots (like always) and nothing from them this year was really revolutionary. No Nintendo game really beat out any of the nominees.

Very happy to see someone with that opinion who is consistent with it in regards to remakes and remasters
I can't believe ppl actually watch TGA for the awards. I thought we were all there for the game announcements lol
But anyways Astro GOTY and if not, def Family game.
@@tbnwontpop8857 I feel like Rebirth is the expected win no? Just cuz the elden ring dlc “feels like a full game” doesn’t mean it is or should be on there in the GOTY category. Just taking away the spotlight for the other games but not surprised since you glaze them a lot.

It's not that you have to prepare an in depth fully researched essay for these videos, but _at least_ poke at Google for a bit before recording?
The action adcenture category is so funny. Cause yeaaah, I mean, the description does kinda fit all games in there, with the puzzles and all... but it's just silly having Astro Bot and Zelda in the same category as Silent Hill 2 lol.

Fun fact: The only Pokemon game that won The Game Awards is Pokemon Go (Best Family Game and Best Mobile/Handheld Game).
What's really messed up about the dlc being allowed for goty thing is that it really was an exception made JUST for Elden Ring, the dlc for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 for instance which is also basically a whole complete game too and was basically a masterpiece got completely ignored
That Anticipated Game award is so funny because it’s literally no contest.
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine (second DLC) was also easily a whole game in and of itself. No GOTY nomination
Shadow of the erdtree is very large DLC but it absolutely could not be packaged as it's own game it is nowhere near that big

Xenoblade is too niche if you compare to the scale of Silksong anticipation for example.
Really looking forward to Arlo's insight on E-Sports Coach of the Year.
Can't believe the Rectangle Guy: Warden on the Job DLC wasn't nominated for any categories.
This argument over whether DLC should be eligible for 'game of the year ' seems kind of pointless to me. Who honestly even takes TGA's results seriously enough for it to actually matter? It's just another blurb to add to the game's advertising to get more folks to buy it.
Nah, having a dlc is dumb as hell , ain't no way you can change my mind on that.
haven’t been too tuned into this years switch releases, banking on astro bot underdogging this somehow
The only way a most anticipated game could win against GTA VI was if HL3 was on that list.
I personally see the "family" category as a game you can play with your family, so Jamboree is absolutely the logical winner for me personally. Like, a one player game winning that just feels silly
I just see it as any and all "family friendly" game, so anything that's E rated
if you need to buy a separate piece of Software to even launch the game, then is DLC, no matter how much content you put on it Shadow of the Erdtree is not Elden Ring 2 the sequel to Elden Ring
this also applies to Shadow Generations, Bowser's Fury, Octo Expansion & Side Order
Dude, how awesome is Metroid Prime 4 gonna be on the Switch 2?! Oh man.
why not look at all of them?
Best soundtrack 100% goes to FF7Rebirth. It has 200+ songs in its OST and all of them are amazing, it’s kind of a joke to let anyone else win that category.
Trying to go on a UA-cam Diet, why must you challenge me with all this Arlo Junk Food! Curses!
But they need to exist to give the general public something to gawk at and think "damn, this must be a pretty serious thing if they're doing all this for it."
Award shows are a necessary evil.

"Maybe Metroid Prime 4 will win next year (pause) best family game!" 😂 at least his expectatives are in check

I'm OK with a Balatro sweep
sadly, the only Award that matters got relegated to Pre-Show filler
don't let Pekora dominating the VGA distract you from the fact that she bought a Funky Monkey!
It would be nice to see EOW win in it’s category 🤓
I think to enjoy the Game Awards one has to choose to just turn off your brain, and let the celebration of games wash over you. Also rooting for a game in certain categories keeps it interesting!
You have to watch it with the same skepticism one would watch EGOT awardS - in reality it’s like the IGN or any other individual outlet saying something is their favorite - but our whiney baby boy demographic gets specifically upset over nominations no matter what.
Not that there are zero problems, I think that each each year has had varying levels of success.
Rrally hoping UFO 50 wins best indie game, it's GOTY for me.
"Great to see Astrobot"
"I hope a DLC wins"
Pick one. Supporting the DLC is actively damning the other contenders.
These are not contradictory statements, what.
@supra_sr If he supports games like Astro he shouldn't be happy with a DLC wasting a slot that could have gone to an original game.
It physically hurt me every time he mispronounced Balatro.
Technically he's pronouncing it correctly, but the generally accepted way to pronounce it just sounds better.
Balatro clean sweep
I mean too be fair, Nintendo released like one game this year?
1:24 yeah no, I don’t give two fcks how big of a dlc it is, it’s a doc and shouldn’t be nominated for GOTY.
Shadow of the Erdtree cannot be Elden Ring 2
The game's ludicrous difficulty depends on the player's knowledge gained from the base game
If it were standalone, it would be a miserable experience for new players, those who've heard about how fantastic Elden Ring is and would think that this "sequel" would be a great place to start
TopicArlo are you going to play Epic Mickey Rebrushed sometime this month or year?
I think Nintendo will probably take an L this year and not get any awards. They had few games, and have tough competition in the few categories they were nominated in. Makes sense, as they are clearly focusing on games for the switch 2.
what about Mario Wonder?

Genuinely a bummer TTYD didn’t get nominated for best RPG
The Game Awards hates remakes because it wants to advertise big-budget gaming as all new and cutting edge; give remakes nominations would mean acknowledging the sheer amount of remakes being released.
@@jairekambui7738 I completely understand this argument, and I also don't want to make anyone mad, I'm just kind of disappointed that my favorite game this year wasn't nominated, I'm not saying the others are bad, I just prefer Nintendo games, I also don't hate Sony or Microsoft, just because a game wasn't for me doesn't mean it can't be phenomenal for others. I am perfectly content with what wins Best RPG or GOTY, I was just speaking on how much I like TTYD, I don't want to be toxic about my opinions.
